![]() Runikans at an anti-Nentsia rally Slowly at first, but faster and faster and in larger groups they had arrived. The Runikan border guards had been deployed in attempt to stop the tide of refugees, but commander Josir Varisoj only needed to take one look at the broken group that had fled across the border to change the orders. The forces stopped any attempts at blockading the border and instead begun the construction of several refugee camps in the border areas. To them came thousands of people that had managed to escape the purges in Nentsia. Dr. Ornaya Arnos was one of the many volunteers that had arrived at the camps. There they worked tirelessly to give aid to those that needed, there were many people who were half-starved, sick or injured. She had cried at first, who could not when they experienced the feelings of hopelessness and sorrow that filled the camp, but she had soon gotten used to it. She was tending to the wounds of a young woman who casually told her how her entire family had been murdered one by one by the VSSB without even once telling them why. She didn't seem to care about it, it was if she had already been emptied of feelings. And she was not the only one. The tide didn't last forever though. It came to a very sudden halt one day, when Nentsia begun the operation to completely close down their nation. The Runikan border guards stood at their positions and listened to distant screams from the other side, as the refugees that hadn't managed to cross the border in time were caught and killed. As the airports in Runikal and the refugee camps begun flooding with Runikans that been deported from Nentsia, something began to happen. The newspapers were filled with images from the refugee camps, with the horrifying tales of those that had escaped Nentsia and the memorials to those that hadn't. Political groups sprung up, holding speeches about the horrors that took place west of the border. And people began talking, and then shouting. In the major cities demonstrations against Nentsia became commonplace. Artists wrote anti-Nentsia songs, made anti-Nentsia art and held anti-Nentsia meetings. It wasn't long until Nentsia and evil were interchangeable words, and people spat on the ground whenever they mentioned Sashin. And people began turning against those that they believed were tainted with the Nentsian evil. The labour party, that had once held a lot of respect were now considered conspires that wished to bring the purges to Runikal. The liberals were looked as agents of Sashin, due to their Nentsian dominated leadership. Irjak Komenos, leader of the Runik People's Party, was one the main propagators of this new idea. He held flaming speeches in the streets, accusing the Chancellor and his government to be Nentsian spies. Whenever someone tried to talk against him, he accused them as well and his follower accepted his accusations as truths. Opponents became quiet in order to not get branded, and Komenos power rose with each passing day. Edited by MrSometimes, 1 Mar 2011, 03:47 PM.
