The sun shun over the sprawling metropolis Vrésborg. While the morning rush was over, the streets were still filled with people, and in the streets the busses and trams moved from station to station like a well oiled clockwork.

In the center of the Old Town, the Communal Committee assembled. Even though their suits were made of thin cloth and the Committee chambers had been outfitted with a modern air condition system they still felt the heat and their water glasses had to be constantly refilled.

This meeting had been called for an important and confidential reason, that was all that they knew. Once they all settled down the Chairman rose and began the meeting.

"Comrades. We've gathered the Committee here today to make a decision on an important issue. We all know the problem at hand, Myeongju. And more importantly, their aggressive foreign politics. I give the word to the Secretary of Military Affairs, Comrade Èrikson."

The secretary of defence, Kàrl Èrikson, was a tall man. He had short, blonde hair and clear blue eyes that peer out over his eagle nose. His voice was deep and loud, he had a career as drill sergeant behind him and was known to be able to make himself heard across a busy crossing in the middle of rush hour..

"Thank you Comrade Trole. Comrades, I have to inform you of the seriousness in this threat. Leader Pyong is ever expanding and it's only a question of time before the Myeongjan banners wave at our border. Now we all know we have a well trained Red Army to defend the city, but we have to acknowledge that it might not be enough, not because they could defeat us militarily, but because they could defeat us without even fighting our forces.

Comrades, our city is far from self-substaining. Nearly thirty million Vrésborgers are fed by the great farmlands of southern Vrésland, land that is independent from our commune and live under the rule of local councils and dictatorial landlords. So far we have done little to aid our kin in the south and they have done little to aid themselves, still clinging to the old tribal society when there has been no chief of the Vrisir for many decades.

Shortly, there exists no nation, no law there, and not in a good way. I hope you realize the threat here, comrades. If Leader Pyong wishes to conquer our city, all he needs to do is seize Vrésland and then starve us until we kneel before him."

The Secretary's words caused a great turmoil among the other committee members, who began shouting and arguing loudly. After a few minutes the chairman managed to call for silence again.

"Comrades." Érikson continued. "I have a simple suggestion, a simple plan that will have several beneficial results. Comrades, we must seize control of Vrésland in the name of the Commune.

By doing this we would liberate our comrades the farmers and miners from their capitalistic overlords, we would be able to properly defend them from foreign aggressors, and we would be able to more properly distribute the natural resources of the land for the people."

"This is a disgrace!" exclaimed Ragnar Pärson Palmblád, the secretary of trade unions. "You seek only to further extend the control of the state, and through direct imperialistic means! The Syndicalist Faction will not support such an action."

"Now comrade hang on a minute, comrade Érikson has a valid idea here." said Varg Jonson Berg, secretary of finances. While we all aim for the abolishment of the state, we need to create a working foundation for the stateless society to be built upon. If we spread socialism to the rest of Vrésland we'll have more people, more resources and more land to build our future upon. Besides, we will of course not govern the newly liberated territory from here. The best would be to divide up the territory in several new districts, or communes, and have them rule themselves but still follow the overall plan of the Commune as a whole."

"You talk as if was already over" replied Palmblád. "The ting hasn't voted through the proposal yet, and even if they do you still haven't annexed the south."

"That is not an issue" said Érikson. "I can promise that the proletariat of Vrésland will see things from our point of view, and the opinions of their masters matters not."

The chairman rose again.

"Let's have a vote. All those in favour of spreading the revolution to southern Vrésland, raise your hands"

Only the secretary of trade unions kept his hand down.

"Then I declare the motion passed. Let us now discuss the layout of our proposition before we bring it to the ting".

Vresland had once been a real independant nation. Ruled from Vresborg the Vrisir kin had lived their lives and stayed out of trouble. But then the communists arose to power, forming the Vresborg commune. The city had lived on completely autonomous, leaving the rest of Vresland behind.

Now the Communal Committee continued the debate regarding the exact formulation of their intent to take direct control of the land again. Even Comrade Palmblád had been appeased by the promise of handing over control of the important industries to the trade unions rather than the state.

The hours passed as suddenly the general secretary, Knút Háraldson, arrived at the chambers after having being absent the entire morning.

"I'm sorry for my absence comrades." he began as the other committee members gave him angered looks. "There was one important thing that I needed to get clarity on, and I'm glad to see that I was correct"

"What are you talking about comrade?" the chairman asked him.

"I'm talking about this!" he pulled out a document from his briefcase, and the committee members leaned over the table to try and read it.
"This document is a confirmation from the high court, giving the Communal Committee the power to act freely, within constitutional boundaries, to defend the interests of the commune and the Vrese people."

"Perfect!" roared the Secretary of defence. "It means that we can start to act now, without going through the ting. Most importantly we can act without letting our neighbours in on our plans before they are already in work!"

"Wait, what now? We can't begin a war without the confirmation of the ting..." said the secretary for the trade unions, but he was interrupted by the secretary of foreign affairs.

"Of course not. But this is no war. We only wish to bring safety and order to the people. Now that we have free hands, I propose that we immediately send delegates to invite the local leaders of Vresland into our community, give them an offer to become independent communes protected by the Red Army."

"And those that refuse?"

"That day, that sorrow"

A quick vote showed that all the committee members were in agreement. Not long after a convoy of government cars began rolling down the freeways, bound for the various towns of rural Vresland, to give their invitation. But back in the city the Red Army began preparations. The secretary of defence knew there would be some refusals, and he knew it was his job to make them change their minds, for the glory of the revolution!

The farmlands outside Vresborg were never considered any problem. Most of them already acted as suburbs to the city and the incorporation into the Commune meant little more to them than a change of flags. But further south the matter was entirely different. Some of the local communities along the western border agreed, as they were frightened by the aggressive Myeongju. But further east the threat was smaller, and the leader there were not happy about the idea of giving up their property and their independence to 'dirty commies'.

Of course, the Secretary of state and his allies had been prepared for this. They felt it unnecessary to try the diplomatic route again, their current acts had done enough to alarm their neighbours about their plans. What counted now was to secure Vresland before anyone else decided to.

The red army mobilized quickly and began to advance southwards. The expected that most resistance would be swept away, those that opposed the commune were to few and to unmotivated to risk their lives for their masters property.

Therefore the first groups of soldiers moved swiftly without the proper preparations and with limited supplies. The open farmlands quickly surrendered as predicted, but when they moved into the mountainous south east, they began meeting unexpected resistance. Locals used the terrain to make sudden hit and run attacks on the red army divisions. Their advance was greatly hindered since they had to be much more careful, and they ran into more problems as their supply lines were attacked in supposedly pacified territory. The red army divisions had to halt and await the main army to deploy and begin a proper occupation.

While these hindrances annoyed the Communal Committee they weren't worried. The operation would go slower then expected, but their opponents were far too few and to badly equipped to be any real threat.

As the campaign continued, the Red Army ran into more and more trouble. The initial defeats in the hills around Bergslagen had strengthened the resolve of their opponents, and more and more people joined the guerilla forces that fought against the Commune.

Several battles took place in the hills, and the casualties suffered were already causing grumbling in Vresborg, as the people there were never in favour of the war in the first place. The army continued to have the problem of having their supply lines attacked in supposedly pacified territory.

Despite these setbacks the campaign was going well. They had already captured most of the important mines in the east, and the majority of the miners had already show their support for the commune. A second offensive had moved southwards to take control of the farmlands and very important uranium mine. Their advance is however slowed down by fierce resistance.

In Vresburg, the factions supporting the war were constantly questioned by the Anarchists and the Syndicalists, who claimed that it was a thinly veiled imperialistic move and would bring about the destruction of their society as they knew it.

In the face of this sudden home front discontent the Secretary of Internal Affairs launched a campaign to convince the people of the righteousness of the war. The Internationale was played more and more often to bolster the spirits of the population. This stopped most angry voices and created a new support for the government. They all knew though that this support was dependent on the success of the war. If things began to go badly, the home situation would deteriorate quickly.

With people walking down the streets, groups of friends laughing together as they entered various pubs and bars, the regular passing of a uniformed communal guard, it was a typical night in the metropolitan city of Vrésborg. On a side street somewhere just off of a courtyard, an unmemorable man slipped behind a pillar to escape the late night breeze in order to light an imported Agabian-brand cigarette. Such commodities were rare in the communist-run city, and had to be smuggled across the border from the UK, an activity certainly not deterred by any Kinsman authority. The man continued walking down the street until he reached the entrance of a small pub, throwing his spent cigarette on the wet ground before lighting another and walking in. The establishment was named Galten, and had a humble railroad-themed atmosphere; the bartender behind the counter noticed immediately the man's presence and subtly nodded. Making no indications himself, the shadowy man now moved to the back of the pub and entered an area blocked from outside view which led to the bathrooms, staff room, and storage areas; after making a quick check behind his shoulder to be wary of anyone following or of clumsy drunks, he entered the storage room. Inside was a set of stairs which lead to the basement, which he climbed down to be welcomed by his colleague dressed in all-black clothing and with a shoulder holster carrying a .44 caliber pistol. The room was small, the walls and tables covered in obscure documents, pictures, and maps; it had barely enough room to fit a dozen people.

Upon walking in, the man dropped a plastic bag containing three smuggled cigarette cartons and an ounce of Agabian kush on the table. "Gifts from the homeland," he said, taking off his coat and lighting another smoke. "Today's that day, huh?"

"Yeah, todays' the day," the other man replied. "They're supposed to show up in about an hour, so help me run through all this shit once more."

"How many are coming, again?" the first man asked. "Three? Four?"

"Four max," he said. "I'll be damned if we have to close up shop again, but thankfully old Frank upstairs has been good."

The two men continued their conversation in low voices, going over personnel files and operation plans for key government buildings in the city of Vrésborg. Communications and electricity facilities were on the top of their priority list, albeit they had gone over those files a hundred times already. Missions like this were tough jobs, no more or less for these two United Secret Service agents who constituted one of the eight teams conducting operations in hostile territory, planning an uprising, and coup if need be against the red threat here in the city of giants. In just a few minutes, they were set to have a meeting with the leader of one of the city's most influential underground Völkisch groups. Together they were going to formulate a plan for the resistance, and for the eventual overthrowing of the communist government.

It was a night like any other in the Free City. The streets were almost empty, except for small groups of people wandering between the taverns and bars and a few busses or trams taking those that had wandered into too many bars home.

Among these groups of people were three men dressed in the rough clothing of dock workers, talking and laughing as they walked along the streets, people walked pass them without giving them a second glance, at this time of the day the streets were filled with their kind. Leading the three men was a large and muscular man with dark brown hair and green eyes. The other two followed him, joking and talking loudly while he lead them into a side street and finally stopped before a small tavern called “Galten”.

They stopped their chatter and entered quietly, they were hardly even noticed by the other guests. The leader nodded at the bartender who nodded back and quickly showed them two fingers before returning to his duties. The three men continued through the building and entered the hidden areas in the back, containing the bathrooms, staff areas but most importantly the storage room.

“Two of them” said one of the men in Vresk, a young blonde man that was noticeable shorter than the other two. “It should be safe, but keep alert. Like Tyr we place our hand in the beast’s maw”

The large leader nodded at him and knocked once on the door, mostly to alert those inside of their presence and entered, quickly followed by the other two. Inside, the large man and the larger of the remaining two took positions on the sides of the door, while the last man stood in between them.

He wasn’t exactly a noticeable person, he was of average length and his blonde hair and blue-green eyes were very common among Vresians. He smiled at the two men that had been waiting for them inside, and managed to stop himself from frowning as he noticed one of them smoking, he had never liked the smell of cigarettes.

“Mína herar” he begun before continuing in a slightly accented Kynmál. “We are here from the United Front, my name is Stén Háraldson.” He smiled again. The USS agents were sent there to aid their struggle to overthrow the regime, Stén was feeling hopeful that things would finally begin to move now that the mighty United Kindreds had acknowledged their struggle.

"Welcome, brother Háraldson. My name is Sigvaldi Vinther and this is my colleague Jörundr Kjærsgaard," he said, bowing his head slightly in greeting. He was sitting down at the table, a small portion of which had been cordoned off to serve as a rolling platform for marijuana cigarettes. The normality of drug use in Agabian culture was not common knowledge throughout the world, even though the production and sale of cannabis buds and the manufacturing of industrial hemp were major sectors in the Kinsman economy. "The actions of the so-called 'Communal Committee' are of great concern, as I'm sure we share the same position on such matters. Too long have these red bastards raped and pillaged the lands of the south, stealing property and destroying the individual in the name of the community. They know nothing of true community, of our kin's Greater Family and of the tribe. My friends, let us show them the true meaning of kinship." On that note, they began discussing strategies and exploring scenarios for an organized resistance against the marxist Vrésborg Communal Committee. It was decided that the United Front would be fully funded and armed by the United Secret Service, funneled through offshore accounts in Tawasia and Batavia; they would receive weapons and supplies from smuggling operations across the UK-Vrésborg border. The USS agents would assist members of the UF in assassination missions, using hit-and-run and geurrilla tactics to take out key members of the Committee and other supporters of the communist regime; targets would also include pro-Committee media offices and business establishments, the subsequent bombings and raids were agreed to include a minimization of collateral damage, taking transportation and infrastructure targets out of the picture. Propaganda operations would include the hosting of a number of illegal servers to spread the United Front's illegal website, missions such as pamphlet drops, graffiti, and possibly an illegal radio station would also be explored. They talked throughout the night, their friendship growing as they began to increasingly recognize on the deepest biological level their kin; they were together with their own here, fighting for the common good of their people.

It was well past midnight when Stén Háraldsòn rose from his seat.
“This has been a good and fruitful night” he said to the two USS agents. “I’m glad to have found good allies and friends to aid our cause. With your help I’m assured that we can finally liberate Vrésbòrg.”
Stén and his followers took farewell of the USS agents before leaving the basement. The tavern was mostly empty now with only a few people half asleep by their tankards. Stén gave the bartender a brief nod before he left the building. Old Frank was a reliable man, his family had owned ‘Galten’ for over one hundred years before the Committee started the ‘labour revolution’ which removed private ownership of any workplace and gave it collectively to all employees. Now Frank was simply the bartender and couldn’t do anything with his own tavern unless the dishwasher agreed. The bitterness had made Frank a strong supporter of the Völkish movements and his tavern was one of many safe meeting locations in the city, he was not the only one who was unhappy with the rule of the Committee.

The three men walked into the night, heading towards the nearest subway station. While they talked about trivialities, as a necessary part of their disguise, Stén was already planning the next step. The Front already had weapons in their possessions, and he deemed it necessary to make a demonstration of their force before the USS began giving their support, to show them that the United Front is fully capable to operate on its own.

The night after the meeting at Galten darkness was once again covering the metropole Vrésbùrg. But even in the middle of the night the central parts of the city were bright, millions of streetlights illuminated the massive buildings that formed the centre of the sprawling cities; the departmental buildings, the corporation headquarters and the seat of the ting.

Jöran Ériksòn, departmental secretary at the department of finance was just leaving the huge skyscraper of glass and steel that was the home of his department. The doors closed behind him and shut out the tunes that had been following Jöran out, as in all governmental buildings the Internationale was played every half hour. Jöran was now looking around him while still maintaining his very important phone conversation with his boss, the Secretary of Finance. Luckily he found what he sought, an empty taxi-car stood parked by the sidewalk in front of him. He quickly got in and told the driver his address before returning to his call.

It wasn’t until the Secretary finally hung up that Jöran noticed that something was wrong. He looked out but didn’t see the familiar buildings along Engelbrektsgátan.
“Excuse me” he said to the driver. “But you’re driving the wrong way!” just as he said this a train passed by overhead. The driver turned around, and in his hand was a gun. Jöran opened his mouth to shout, but before he could make a sound the driver fired a shot straight into his heart and the silenced gunshot was drenched in the sound of the train.

The car was found abandoned in the harbour area hours later by a dockworker. When the police searched the body, they found a small rolled up note in his right hand. The note read ‘Énighét’ – unity

Völkisch forces rebel against marxist Vrésbòrg regime
Communal Committee members targeted in insurrection

Posted Image
Scene after a United Front bombing of a Communal Committee office in Gamelstán

Many chieftains have expressed their concern over what has been hailed as a 'völkisch insurrection' against the Vrésíán communist regime. Yesterday a bomb exploded in Gamelstán District killing five government officials in part of what has been a series of rebel strikes against government forces, property, and personnel. Over the previous few months a reported 31 officials of the Communal Committee have been killed or targeted in bombings around the metropolis, bringing further instability to an already war-torn nation.

The Vrésland Conflict continues unbated in the south, and as indications arise of Suðrlander troop movements near the nation's western border, the deteriorating situation in the west could soon broaden. More than a thousand tribal resistance soldiers have been killed in the conflict; some hundreds of civilians have died, thousands more injured, and tens of thousands displaced, fleeing south and east to escape the marxist occupation force.

Rebels struck a major blow to the Communal Vrésíán advance when General Lárs Olsòn was killed when a car bomb targeting a road leading to a Red Army forward operating base 50 kilometers north of Miöldnal.

The Althing is rumored to have been discussing possible UK intervention in the unstable western region, as Chieftain Hrolleifr Ogar of Forsettis Kindred commented that tribal leaders and officials from the Almǫgrráð are "exploring options to respond to respond to the situation [in Vrésland]."
