The Great Campaign

Krasnye Polya Stadium - 264,760 spectators
The 1st Popular Convention of the National-Communist Workers' Party of the Motherland

More than 260 000 spectators were in the ''Red Field'' stadium - a stadium just outside Vladimirsk. It was roughly 350 meters long and 200 meters wide. Through the middle of the stadium was a long lane, with enough space for an entire military parade with tanks and other enormous vehicles. Now, the lane was filled with 400 000 Party troops from the Krasnogvardyets (Red Guard) - the paramilitary organization of the National-Communist Party. The Troops of the Red Guard were officially responsible for the security at Party rallies and the protection of Party members. In reality - the Red Guards were used by Sashin as a force to show off strength and intimidate adversaries of his Party.

The people who were part of this Red Guard, were often the most fanatic, intolerant and anti-social members of the Nentsian society, who could easily be attracted by Sashin to join the ''honorable'' ranks of the Red Guard.

The National-Communist Party - controlled by Sashin - was now in power for half a year. But it had not yet fully consolidated its power. All that was done so far, was the creation of a new consitution that recognized the National-Communist Party as the vanguard of the Nentsian people, thus being the only allowed political party in Nentsia.
Through populism, rethoric and propaganda, Sashin continued the mobilization of Nentsians for his movement. That movement was growing every day.
50 million Nentsians were moderate supporters of Sashin, 3 million Nentsians were fierce supporters of Sashin, and 1.7 million people die-hard partisans of Sashin's movement.

Today was one of the largest rallies in the history of the National-Communist Party: 660 000 fanatic members had gathered in the Red Field Stadium to attend a great announcement of the Great Liberator: Aleks Sashin.

Sashin, the General-Comrade of the National-Communist Party (executive-administrative head of the party) would use this massive rally to consolidate his power in Nentsia for once and for all.

After an impressive party ceremony, led by the brigades and cadres of the Red Guard - Sashin stood on a stage to address more than a half million hysteric members of his Party. The Vanguard of the Motherland.

Sashin announced his ''Great Campaign''. The Great Campaign was based on an indigenous Nentsian doctrine called ''Sashinism'' - basically a very nationalist version of Marxist-Leninism.

The Great Campaign was officially aimed at destroying the old order - and establish a new order that would bring a ''Glorious Society'' to Nentsia. Sashins plans were met with hysteric support by the masses inside the Red Field Stadium.

The main points of the Great Campaign included the following:

The Great Campaign

Political Campaign:
  • The National-Communist Party of the Motherland shall not only be recognized as the vanguard, the leading and guiding force of the Nentsian society - it shall also be recognized as the nucleus of its political system. All political decisions made, either by the executive government or the legislature, must be ratified by the National-Communist Party and must be in line with Sashinist, National-Communist and Orthodox-Christian doctrine.
  • All opposition to the Great Liberator (Aleks Sashin), the National-Communist Party, the Orthodox Christian Church or any other institutions that follow the state ideology is betrayal of the People and the Motherland - and will be mercilessly punished.
  • The Glorious Society can only be reached through total struggle - the masses of the nation must be unified and organized in the ranks of one Party, with a single ideology that shall bring Liberation and Glory. This form of mass organization creates unlimited power - power that will destroy the old order and power that will lead the society towards a glorious future society.
  • Democrats, oligarchs, capitalists, Federovists and fascists have an alliance aimed at enslaving and exploiting the Nentsians who built this nation - for their own selfish gains. The Nentsian people can only be liberated through the destruction of this wicked enemy. The National-Communist Party of the Motherland shall create powerful weapons and apparatuses that will seek to exterminate and neutralize the Enemy of the Nentsian society and nation as a whole. Enemies belonging to one of the above named categories will be called ''Bloodsuckers'' or ''Leeches''.
  • All Nentsians who are associated with Bloodsuckers must report these Bloodsuckers to the authorities or the Party. Nentsians who do not report, will be treated as 'Traitors of the Motherland'.
  • Anti-Sashinist, anti-Nationalist or anti-Communist propaganda undermines the National Struggle towards the glorious future. This propaganda is banned. The Party will see to it that such propaganda shall not reach the public to minimize the damage, and the creators and distributors of such propaganda will be treated as Traitors of the Motherland and punished accordingly.
  • During crucial moments in our struggle for the Glorious Society - there shall be periods heightened repression of Enemies and traitors, with merciless punishments and draconian meassures to stop the Bloodsucking threat.
  • The Party will actively try to export Sashinist doctrines to other parts of Renatia.

Economic Campaign
  • The Nentsian industrial sector will be nationalized for a total share of 66%. 30% of the Nentsian industry shall be privately owned by MaksKom OAO which has a special permission from the government. The remaining 4% shall be owned by smaller private enterprise. MaksKom OAO itself shall be owned by the Nentsian government for 45%, the National-Communist Party will own 7% of the shares. The remaining shares shall be in private hands.
  • The agrarian sector will be fully collectivized.
  • All commercial and state enterprise must serve the Nentsian national interests - and that of the collective. Those that don't, will be shut down.
  • The Nentsian government shall impose a Socialist market economy to ensure both collective ownership and the generation of wealth through entrepreneurship and profit maximization.
  • The Party will aim for complete workforce mobilization - to increase the Nentsian production, export and eliminate all unemployment. Workers who refuse to work for the Great Campaign will be penalized.
  • The strenght of the State depends on the productivity of the population. Therefore, all Nentsians must work for a minimum wage, at least 12 hours a day and workers may only join the National-Communist Trade Union which acts in accordance with Sashinist ideology. Striking without government authorization or authorization of the Trade Union is strictly forbidden as it undermines the Great Campaign.
  • In return for the sacrifice that we demand from our workers, the government shall see to it that every worker will live in a good house and has good food, education, healthcare and good pension funds.

Social Campaign
  • The Nentsian working classes (workers, peasants, soldiers, employees) will be the ruling classes in Nentsian society. There exists no space for immigrants in Nentsian society.
  • The Nentsian Orthodox Christian Church is the the foundation of all Nentsian values and moral standards - and shall continue to guide the Nentsian society in moral issues. The Church is therefore responsible for lecturing the masses, and is thus part of the Struggle for a Glorious Society. Orthodox Christianity is recognized as the State Religion of Nentsia - all other religions are tolerated but may not be practised in public.
  • The Great Campaign will aim to destroy all elements in the society that keep fractions of the Old order alive. Therefore - all public institutions (sports clubs, trade unions, youth organizations, schools, universities, colleges etc.) will be replaced with a Sashinist equivalent authorized by the Party.
  • In order to minimize the effect of foreign counterrevolutionary propaganda on Nentsian society - Nentsians need government authorization to leave the country. Foreigners need authorization to enter Nentsia as well. It is strictly forbidden to follow foreign media.
  • The media have the responsibility to educate the masses. All the media need to adhere Sashinist ideology and use this as a basis for all their publications.
  • All enemies of the working classes must follow ideological re-education in special facilities. Those who try to avoid their ideological duty will be treated as an enemy of the Nentsian people and executed.
  • All children between the age of 7 and 16 years must join the ranks of the SlavMol (Slavnye Molodezhi), a youth movement affiliated with the National-Communist Party.
  • All Nentsians must be grateful for the fact that Comrade Sashin has liberated them. This gratefulness is expressed by reading the Red book of Sashin, ''Partiya Sashina'', (mandatory), or having an official portrait of the Great Liberator in the house (at an honorable position).
  • All cultural refferences to the old order (books, films, games, art) must be destroyed and replaced with an equivalent that is in accordance with Sashinist ideology.

After the presentation of the Great Campaign - grand ceremonies where held. 660 000 fanatic members cheered with hysterical passion for Sashin who then left the stage. Sashin quickly went back to his residence in the forest - he despised the mob.
His Great Campaign would change Nentsia forever. The VSSB was getting its knives ready for numerous internal purges and terror campaigns against adversaries deemed enemies of the Nentsian people by Sashin.

The Great Campaign:
The Lubyako Purge

From this arises the question whether it is better to be loved rather than feared, or feared rather than loved. It might perhaps be answered that we should wish to be both
-Niccolò Machiavelli

Aleksandr Sashkin welcomed Boris Lubyako to the meeting of the Central Council of the Motherland Party, the executive body of the National-Communist party.
Sashkin sat down on his seat, at the head of the table. There were only a few others. They were Viktor Kobelev and Mikhail Vasynich.

Sashin, the Great Liberator, had some important plans to discuss with his party elite. ''As you know, the National-Communist Party practically dominates the entire system. The Great Campaign has allowed the Party to strike root in the entire society. Orthodox Christianity was the only accepted religion, immigrants were being deported to the north, freedom of movement had been abolished and all Nentsians were forced to read the books of Sashin. All Nentsian children were forced to join a youth movement, affiliated to the National-Communist Party.

But Sashin wanted more control over the society. The plans to destroy all cultural refferences to the old order (books, films, games, art) had already been prepared. But Sashin had also lists prepared of oppositionists within the National-Communist Party, oppositionists who were to be accused of conspiring against the government. Sashin had prepared a nationwide purge, to destroy the last bits of the Old order, and establish a new order.

''Boris, I hope you have been preparing your knives. We need them. In the next months, we will cut the throat of all liberties that exist in Nentsia. We have allready destroyed freedom of speech, of press and information, of movement, of association, of religion - but in the next months we will destroy freedom of opinion. It is the opinion, that forces the human individual to think for himself, and to act in accordance to that. But not in my society. The Glorious Society can only be reached if the masses become mindless slaves ready to follow every order that I give them. We therefore must prevent the people from thinking, we must prevent them from having opinions. Next week - you will begin to eliminate at least 1,700 National-Communist Party members. Accuse them of plotting a coup or something. Furthermore, I want you to rid the country of 400 000 bureaucrats who cannot be trusted and must be considered ''potential'' counterrevolutionaries. Arrest and detain as many intelligentsia as possible for having served the Bloodsuckers in the past, and try to arrest as many non-Orthodox Catholics as possible for not contributing to the Glorious Society. Remember this, Boris: I want the camps and prisons completely filled. All citizens affiliated or associated with enemies of the Revolution - are equally guilty and should be deported.''

And so it began - the Lubyako Purge. It was all carefully planned by Aleksandr Sashin. Lists were being produced by the VSSB, lists with names of potential enemies of the state. The Red Guards went through the country, to arrest 1700 members of the National-Communist Party who were accused of plotting against the government. They were tortered and forced to confess. Show trials were held in Vladimirsk - to prove the population that a threat existed within Nentsia against the Glorious Society.

Millions of brainwashed and hysterical adherents of the National-Communist Party took the streets, demanding the execution of the arrested Party members.

After the show trials, the Red Guards took the convicts to a forest where they executed all 1700 convicts in one night. The bodies were burned and dumped in a mass grave. As official paramilitary wing of the Party, the Red Guards were under the immediate control of Aleksandr Sashin.

In the weeks that followed, massive book burnings were held in Nentsia. The VSSB officers spied on Nentsian citizens to see whether all cultural references to the old order had been removed from the house. DVD's, books, posters, games, paintings - everything was seized by the Federal Troops and destroyed. These orders came directly from Boris Lubyako. It was the ''Cultural Purge'' of Nentsia. Paintings and posters were to be replaced with portraits of the Great Liberator Sashin, books were to be replaced with Nationalist, Orthodox Catholic or Marxist literature - and the production of all arts needed authorization from the National-Communist Party.

Many people tried to keep some of their literature, DVD's or paintings hidden in their house. These people were often betrayed by their neighbours - who did so to save their own skin. Those who hid ''bourgeois'' culture in their house - were accused of being ''class traitors'' and deported to the cold north.

Within a few weeks, this Cultural Purge had resulted in over 50 000 arrests.

As a result of the Cultural Purge, thousands of people belonging to the intelligentsia were deported. They had allegedly produced bourgeois propaganda - and were now class enemies. Enemies of the Nentsian working classes.

In the south of Nentsia, Federal Troops began with mass deportations of muslims and jews. The jewish and muslim communities were deemed a ''threat'', as they could be cooperating with foreign enemies of Nentsia. In the months that followed, over 300 000 muslims and jews had been deported.

The Lubyako Purge was also against all citizens who had been a member of other political parties or movements in the past. Hundreds of thousands were arrested, the VSSB was equally merciless to the families and friends of the deported and the accused.

Many more purges were planned by Boris Lubyako. There existed many ''dangerous'' minorities in Nentsia - they would soon be subjected to merciless terror as well.

Amidst the massive purges and terror campaigns carried out by Boris Lubyako, Sashin was fanatically worshipped by millions. To those who had been brainwashed long before this nationwide terror, Sashin was a true hero - the hope for the nation. In their eyes, Sashin was the only man who could lead Nentsia to the Glorious Society. Especially because Sashin pushed for rapid economic expansion with the ''Great Campaign''. The rapid economic growth could only be achieved at the expense of many lives and radical mobilization of both labor force and national resources.

Sashin's Red Guards were also using ethnic violence more and more often - as Sashin claimed that non-Slavic ethnic minorities were a ''threat'' to the Great Slavic Workers' Society that he was building.

This is how the Lubyako Purge began, and this will certainly not be the last one. To be continued...

(Boris Vladimirovich Lubyako)

The Lubyako purge was raging through Nentsia now for almost a year. It served two purposes; dragging the population into an ideological struggle toward a cataclysmic culmination, and destroying all existing community- and social ties. By eliminating entire categories of people from society - including the people who didn't belong to an undesired category but who were 'associated' with people from that category - a strong sense of distrust developed among the civilians. People couldn't trust their friends anymore, some did not even trust their family. Many were willing to betray their colleagues or even friends and family to save their own lives. No one could exactly tell who were really fanatic supporters of Sashin, and which ones were just pretending they supported Sashin. If you do not know who to trust anymore, you can trust no one.

What happens when psychological fear, caused by terror, is combined with the destruction of social ties in a society? Organized resistance becomes impossible. Those who dare to stick out their necks and resist the regime, are at the same time unable to trust anyone else with their anti-government plans. As resistance becomes smaller and smaller, the secret police will become more effective in recruiting terrified citizens to spy on their neighbours, friends, colleagues and family. During the Lubyako purge - the VSSB recruited more than 1.5 million informants and spies among the population to spy on civilians.

Technical divisions of the VSSB began to develop one of Renatia's largest communication monitoring systems - only Myeongju had bigger monitoring networks.

First Deputy Boris Lubyako was responsible for Internal Affairs. Internal Affairs supervised the Lubyako Purge. The secret police, VSSB, was headed by Commissar of Security - Igor Vasilchikov. Lubyako was known for his big posture, with his length of 1.93 m. He became known in Nentsia as the ''Bloodthirsty Giant'' - for his ruthlessly conducted purges against ''dangerous religious'', ''unloyal administrative officials'', ''minorites who collaborated with the fascists'', ''enemies of the working classes'' and peasants and workers suspected of ''sabotage''.

Vasilchikov, head of the VSSB, focussed on hunting down ''anti-communists'', ''counterrevolutionary elements'', ''subversives'', ''enemy agents'' and ''anti-Nentsian threats''. As such, the VSSB was involved in purging the military - accusing military officers of plotting against the government. One military officer had the guts to write a letter to Sashin himself - complaining about the excessive amount of arrests carried out by the VSSB. Sashin, replied by stating he was not responsible - the military officer had to turn to the Ministry of Internal Affairs with his complaint. The officer was stupid enough to do so - Lubyako personally ordered for his arrest. The officer was tortured for weeks in the cellars of the VSSB building and he confessed being an agent working for Otrenia. After that, he was executed in his cellar. His confession was published in the newspaper.

Purge of the Party
The Lubyako Purge was launched with the purge of 1700 party members, accused of conspiring against the party leadership and the government. They were executed in a forest. Lubyako realized this was an effective way to eliminate all dissent within the party itself.
The Political Commissariat - main decision making body of the Party - consisted of 18 Party Commissars who had each been elected by the Central Committee of the Party - which was in its turn elected by the Party Congress. All Commissars thus basically represented political wings and factions that existed within the Party. Lubyako wanted to crush these inner party factions by executing their important figures, and expelling their followers from the party.

Party Commissars such as Mikhail Gelashvili, Josif Kalinenkov and Oleksey Baistryuchenko were each accused of various crimes such as subversion or being anti-Sashinist. After they were sentenced to death in show trials - all of their followers within the party were expelled. In total, more than 300 000 party members were expelled. Boris Lubyako was a Political Commissar as well, and he was also part of the Central Bureau of the Party - which allowed him to expell members from the party. Of the 300 000 expelled members, roughly a 100 000 were arrested in the months that followed and deported to the Katorga Camps in the north. The VSSB also arrested friends and family of the purged, resulting in another 224 000 arrests.

Purge of dangerous religious
With the arrest and trial of Imam Akhmad Gulayev - a Sunni cleric from the south of Nentsia, a purge against muslims was launched. The VSSB had wiretapped his phonecalls, and recorded conversations in which the imam expressed his disgust of Sashin. This evidence was used against Gulayev, who was arrested detained and tortured for weeks. Rumors say that Lubyako personally went to the VSSB prisons to torture Gulayev with his own hands. It wouldn't be the first time that Lubyako personally participated in torturing political prisoners. Lubyako also personally tortured Mikhail Gelashvili - his former rival within the Party.
Shortly after Gulayev's trial, his church was banned and all members were deemed guilty of participating in a violent religious plot to overthrow the Party.

In the months that followed, roughly 380 000 non-Orthodox Christian religious people had been deported on the suspicion that their churches were agents working for the enemy. This included jews, muslims and other religious. Boris Lubyako stated that these people were possibly agents working for the enemy - but he admitted that some of them were innocent. Lubyako said this about deporting innocent people: ''There will be some innocent victims in this fight against Fascist agents. We are launching a major attack on the Enemy; let there be no resentment if we bump someone with an elbow. Better that ten innocent people should suffer than one spy get away. When you chop wood, chips fly.''

Purge of Anti-Nentsian minorities
Lubyako also sharpened his knives for ethnic minorities and immigrants living in Nentsia. The VSSB collected false evidence on individuals belonging to these groups - turning them into a public enemy. The Runikans, Otrenians, Movarians, Volyars and many other ethnic minorities were suspected of collaborating with Nentsian enemies - spying for them in Nentsia. In the past year, the VSSB had 289 000 individuals belonging to minorities accused of spying for the enemy. All of their confessions were published, and there was only one punishment for spies: Death. Among the nearly 300 000 people, were entire villages. Entire villages had been left behind depopulated - as all inhabitants were suspected spies - just so that the VSSB officers could reach their daily quota.

Purge of the military, the Internal Troops and the Bureaucratic administrators
The VSSB also had its knives prepared for the population categories that were seen as a threat by Sashin. The military, as organization was a serious threat to the power of Sashin. The VSSB collected false evidence on military officers, accused them of plotting against the government, sabotage or spying for the enemy. Over 20 000 high ranking officers were executed by the VSSB.
Lubyako had another 120 000 soldiers removed from the military - as they had served under one of the treasonous officers. In the months that followed, all of the expelled soldiers were one by one arrested on the suspicion that they were part of a greater plot against the government. Many were tortured for their confessions. Gradually, the military came under the iron grip of the VSSB - where all soldiers did not dare to question the new military leadership which was appointed by the Party. VSSB officers provided political programs to indoctrinate the soldiers. In the military, all soldiers were asked a set of questions - to determine their ideologic loyalty towards Sashin. If a soldier failed the test, he was expelled from the military - and arrested a few months later.

Boris Lubyako's troops of the Ministry of Internal Affairs were subjected to a purge as well. Vasilchikov, head of the VSSB, feared that Lubyako was building a case against him to eliminate him as a rival for power. Vasilchikov sent his VSSB officers to collect false evidence on troops of Internal Affairs, and he arrested them and accused them of sabotage. The VSSB began to recruit thousands of informants among the Internal Troops, who were forced to betray their colleagues. It resulted in the arrests of 30 000 men working for Internal Affairs - all betrayed by their colleagues. Boris Lubyako was furious, but he could do nothing. In an attempt to save his own skin, Lubyako did not attempt to stop Vasilchikov and he pretended that he wholeheartedly supported the purge of his own organization.

Boris Lubyako even launched a purge against government officials and the bureaucratic administrators. Over 400 000 government officials were considered ''untrustworthy'', and suspected of having anti-Nentsian ideas. They were all fired, many were deported in the months that followed - along with their family and friends.

The Lubyako purge was reaching its peak, and at the same time, it was nearing its end. So far, it had done its work. The society was rid of all dissident elements, the population had been mobilized for ideological struggle, and all resistance, opposition and dissent had been swept away with fear. The existing social and community ties had been destroyed - making attempts to resistance futile, and making each individual fully docile and pliable.

We always believe that totalitarian regimes rely on collectivism - and seek to destroy individualism. This is only partly true. The totalitarian regime deliberately seeks to control the collective - through dominating the individual. Through excessive terror and purges, the regime seeks to destroy all existing groups so that the society will become a structureless mass; a society consisting of only small individuals - each of them too scared to dissent, each of them too scared to trust anyone else, each of them fully docile to become a mindless slave of the regime. Once all individuals have transformed from citizens into ideologic servants of the regime, they are combined together as one mass movement which is capable of becoming an incredible force - a force fully serving the mercurial will of the leader.

The impact of the Lubyako Purge on the Nentsian society was great. Not only had the population been paralyzed with fear, but the production and economy suffered as well as millions of healthy, fit people were removed from the society. Sashin realized this, and considered to terminate the orders of heightened systematic repression.

Purge of the Peasantry
As if it hadn't been enough yet, Sashin told Boris Lubyako - the Bloodthirsty Giant - to begin yet another purge. This one was perhaps the most important one. Of all potential threats against the power of the National-Communists, they would now ''tackle'' the threat coming from their own electorate, they people they claimed to represent: workers and peasants.

Boris Lubyako immediately began to arrest hundreds of peasants and landowners on the suspicion of agrarian sabotage. The peasants were treated as enemy agents. After they had confessed, the peasants were taken to a large national forest where they were shot. Their bodies were burned, and what remained was poured over with acid. The Federal Troops of the Internal Affairs then continued their murderous campaign.

In a few months time, 130 000 peasants were arrested on the suspicion of agrarian sabotage. They were all deported to the labor camps in the north, to serve as slaves for the next 6 years. The VSSB recruited informants among the peasantry, and soon that led to another 125 000 arrests and deportations. Every day, vans of the VSSB drove through the country-side of Nentsia. The drivers had been given a quota which they had to complete by the end of the day. They just went to every village they could find and picked up all the peasants on suspicion of agrarian sabotage. It worked. Never had Lubyako's agencies been so effective in deporting large amounts of people. The agrarian sector however, suffered tremendously under the fact that hundreds of thousands of peasants had disappeared.

Sudden Death
As sudden as the purges of Lubyako began, as sudden as they stopped. Now in 59AE, Aleksandr Sashin personally signed a decree to end the Orders of Heightened Systematic Repression. And as Sashin signed that decree, Boris Lubyako immediately seized all operations against large groups of people. There were no longer quotas or lists being produced, the Federal Troops were ordered to stand down. Sashin also ordered for ending extrajudicial executions. In fact, the only organization that remained very active in repressing the Nentsians was the VSSB. Only, from now on the VSSB would not work to arrest entire masses, the VSSB would operate effectively to only pick out true dissidents.

The VSSB had recruited nearly 2 million spies to detect dissidents, 29 million CCTV cameras were being placed, and all sorts of information about citizens was being collected by the VSSB. The VSSB hacked into computers, and everything that was found on that computer was stored in a database dedicated to the owner of the computer. All information could some day be used against citizens.

The purges had ended, and the social structures of the Nentsian society had been completely destroyed - effectively ending all organized resistance.

Nentsia was in a total lockdown - foreign information could not enter the country, and very little information from Nentsia could leave the country. Outside the prison that was named ''Nentsia'', there were rumours going around about the existence of political purges. But no one actually had idea of how many people had been purged or what the scale of the Lubyako purge was. Those who attempted to escape, were long captured before they even reached the border.

With computer files, the VSSB was able to see where Nentsians travelled to. Those who showed signs of ''traveling towards the borders'' were intercepted by the authorities, and brutally interrogated. It was strictly forbidden to leave the country, those who tried were considered possible enemy agents and turncoats. The Nentsian borders with Runikal, Thule and Moranus Vera had become a strange scene: entire no-mans-land areas filled with minefields, barbed wire and obstacles to prevent vehicles from entering the area. Behind all this lethal no-mans-land, lay Thule, Runikal or Moranus Vera. On the other side, there were enormous walls, fences and military watchtowers. Nentsians trying to escape were to be shot on sight. Foreigners who miraculously crossed the deathly borders were to be arrested.

Aftermath

The impact of the Lubyako purges between 58 and 60AE was enormous. There had been 620 prison camps constructed, for nearly 2.7 million prisoners. nearly 800 000 prisoners had died, or were executed. The prison camps were located in the north of Nentsia - ran by the cruel officers of the VSSB. The VSSB, as elite agency of the regime, consisted of only the most obedient and fanatic Nentsians they could find. The VSSB officers were recruited among the lower classes of the society, potential criminals and frustrated individuals were attracted by the secret police. Entire brainwashing methods existed to shape the simple minds of the VSSB recruits: the recruits were put in an isolated school where they were taught they were the elites of the country, the finest men - who fought on the frontline against Nentsian internal enemies. The recruits were told that the internal enemies were also the cause of the problems in their lives as well.

After 6 months, the recruits had been transformed into ruthless executioners. After a VSSB agent executed a number of people - he would often turn sadistic. Many officers suffered from psychological traumas, and there was little psychological help for them. That resulted in officers becoming very aggressive towards their victims, turning them into sadistic psychopaths in an attempt to abreact.

After VSSB agents had turned into sadistic psychopaths as a result of trauma - they were sent to serve as guards in the prison camps. The laboratory of totalitarian domination is the concentration camp. The experiment it conducts aims to discover the conditions under which human subjects become fully docile and pliable.

The sadistic VSSB guards served as torturers in the camps to destroy every hope inside the prisoners; the prisoners were turned into docile slaves.

There were some 3000 VSSB officers who committed suicide after suffering from severe traumas.

During the Lubyako purges, Boris Lubyako had done everything to destroy all cultural references to the ''Old Order'' - all literature, movies, games and artwork referring to the previous political systems of Nentsia were confiscated and destroyed. Only a small percentage survived the Cultural Purge, and rests hidden in the homes of citizens, or is under lock and key of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

As the purges raged through the country, citizens began to betray their own friends, colleagues and even family - just to save their own lives. This had effectively destroyed all social and community ties in the country. A worker did no longer trust his fellow workers, a peasant did no longer trust the other peasants with who he shared his land, a soldier did not trust his comrade, and a commoner did no longer trust his neighbour.

The VSSB had recruited over 2 million informants to spy on Nentsian citizens, 29 million CCTV cameras had been installed to monitor all action in the cities, all financial transactions were being monitored to watch the behavior of all Nentsians and the VSSB keept an enormous digital database on all individuals in the country and how they were linked to each other. The VSSB could carefully check how closely one individual was related to another. The VSSB had created the largest database of Renatia - containing personal information and records on 225 million people.

The purges however also wrecked the Nentsian economy. In just a few years, 2.7 million fit people were removed and taken prisoner. This had a strong effect on the production of the country. Especially the agricultural sector suffered, as Lubyako had 255 000 peasants deported in an extremely short period of time. The Lubyako purge was at its peak during that time - many Nentsians turned in their friends and colleagues to the authorities to avoid getting deported themselves. During the peak, the number of Nentsians turned in to the authorities reached an all-time high. As a result, more than 250 000 people were accused and arrested in a very short period of time.

The effects on the agriculture were devastating. The production in 59AE temporarily dropped to 60% of the production before 57AE.

Over 60 000 Nentsians attempted to escape the country. A few thousand managed to reach the ''other world'', but tens of thousands were caught before they could cross the borders. They were accused of being foreign spies and agents, of being Anti-Sashinists - plotting a coup and wanting to organize that coup in exile. Many were executed, and the VSSB was equally merciless to the family and friends of refugees; they were often deported to special camps where they would receive ideological ''re-education''.

Sashin had constructed the most secured borders in Renatia - with concrete walls, mine fields, electrified barbed wire and military watchtowers. Thousands were killed in their attempt to escape Nentsia. Their relatives were not informed about the deaths - only that their sons/brothers/sisters had defected.

The Great Campaign also meant economic mobilization of the country. The workforce of Nentsia was pushed to work harder and be more productive. Many workers who did not work ''hard enough'' were accused of being industrial saboteurs - and executed. It is estimated that in the past two years - 67 000 workers had been executed or worked themselves to death for the Great Economic Campaign of Sashin.

The ironic thing is, this cruel mode of production did make the Nentsian workers extra productive. Despite the purges - the Nentsian overall production slightly increased.

The purges have ended now - but the VSSB is still closely monitoring literally every move of all Nentsians. It is quiet in the country - there is an oppressive atmosphere. The Nentsians are doing all they can to avoid problems with the authorities, they are following every order that is given to them.

VSSB officers are parading down every corner of the streets, in their black uniforms, demonstrating their iron grip on the society.
