17 days ago Pope Renius had died. Ending a popular and productive 12 year reign Renius was known as one of the most liberal Popes in history. He had helped to increase congregation sizes across the world and partly because of him the world had a greater interest in the small Island of the East Coast of Parundor- the smallest sovereign state in the world. Stato della Città del Vaticano. A media frenzy had descended on the island with a usual population of 3,500. Together the police force and the Vatican Guard had just under 200 men, more than enough to protect the 3,500 as that would mean one officer or guard for every 17.5 men. However with the added frenzy any one who would volunteer was accepted, especially since the Vatican Guard had only one duty- make sure Conclave is successful. Archbishop Pietro Sorenzo was Camerlengo of the Holy Catholic Church. At 59 he was one of the youngest Archbishops and was currently acting head of state of the nation. It had been his duty to declare the Pope dead and then destroy the Ring of the Fisherman to show the Popes earthly authority was at an end. His last act would be to make sure another man is elected to the most holy of positions. Cameras from around the world were targeted on the small Island and the Archbishop did not like it. This was the most solem of times and they were like circling vultures feasting on the corpse of his old friend. It had been the Pope who had brought him into the Church and he had been like a son to him. He had decided he would leave the Vatican as soon as the Conclave was finished. He sat in the office of the Pope when a nock at the door came. "Enter," then two men wearing bright blue and yellow costumes came into his room. "Father, it is time to seal Conclave. Please come with us." He smiled, put the book he was reading down, it had been one of the Popes favourite, and left the room- possibly for the last time. The Basilica was huge and it took them a while to reach the Sistine Chapel. He marvelled at its beauty, only obstructed by the temporary chimney installed on the roof. 149 Cardinals were inside already, he was the 150 and final. He entered the room and the doors were closed, sealed behind him with two guards posted outside. Until they elected a new Holy Father- no one could leave. The room was light by thousands of candles. He moved up to the altar and welcomed everyone, spoke of the Pope and gave mass. He looked and saw the three Cardinals, the only ones who had any chance of being elected. Each needed 100 votes to become the Pope. He looked over Each one in turn. Archbishop Julis Brogia from Otrenia. He was neither liberal or conservative feeling that the old ways should be protected but the Church needed to adapt to survive. The second man was a man sometimes described as a Christian Marxists- Archbishop Pedro Carlos of Vertadoria. Finally Wilhelm von Burgdoff of Germania. The most conservative man at the Conclave who wishes to excommunicate anyone of all other religions and cut of ties with most of the worlds nations, those with no large Catholic minorities. |

![]() Pietro Sorenzo sat at the top of the candle lit chapel and counted each vote. He had to go through 130 before he could tell the outside world if they had a Holy Father. Twice he had already sent the black smoke inton the air but he know hoped that within a few minutes they would know who was to be their Holy Father. "I elect as Supreme Pontiff Julius Borgia" "I elect as Supreme Pontiff Pedro Carlos" "I elect as Supreme Pontiff Wilhelm von Burgdoff" Three votes in a row, three different votes. 'Maybe another ballot would be needed,' Sorenzo thought as he sat and gazed over the 149 Cardinals, all eager to know who their knew leader would be. With thirty votes left only one man could beome Pope and he needed only ten more votes. Everyone held their breath... Outside thousands pilgrims waited. All looking into the air hoping to see white smoke. Twice now dark smoke had arisen from the chapel. Camera men were drinking cups of coffee while pilgrims were knelt and prayed to god. It was then that white smoke came form the church, bells began to ring and the people began to sing. The camera men filmed live in dozens of languages announcing that a new pope had been chosen. "By what name will you be called?." The man replied and was lead to the Room of Tears where he dressed. At the same time the Cardinal Protodeacon appears on the balcony and speaks to all below. Annuntio vobis gaudium magnum: Habemus Papam! Eminentissimum ac Reverendissimum Dominum, Dominum Julis, Sanctae Romanae Ecclesiae Cardinalem Borgia, qui sibi nomen imposuit Pious III. Dressed in fine clothes Julius Borgia, now Pope Pius III, appeared to his people. He stod proud and the 73 year old spoke. He gave his first blessing and smiled. Who knew how long he would reig? Would he be a good Pope? Would he be a skilled leader? With the cheering crowd behind him he left to begin his reign. Edited by Cour, 10 Feb 2011, 05:35 AM.
