NS Nation Name
Menadovia
65 men and 25 woman sat in a very old and elaborate room. The small group, in contrast to other nations, were the Diet of the nation; the parliament. At the had of the table was Josef Thorsten, the current and sixth Prime Minister of the Principality of Vaduz. Her had allot of powers and was head of government however the Prince had sweepingly broad powers that included disbanding parliament, dismissing any member of the Diet, Appointing any position in the Diet, High Court Judges, Chief of Police and technically he owned all the nations land.

His party Die christliche Bürgerlich-Demokratische Union Monarchist (The Christian Conservative Democratic Monarchist Union) controlled 62 of the seats. Followed by the Liberal-Grünen von Vaduz (Liberal-Green Party of Vaduz) which controlled 30 seats. The third party controlled 6 seats Die Kommunistische Partei Vaduz (The Vaduz Communist Party) and finally Republikanische Partei (Republican Party) which controlled 2 seats.

He had called the Diet together for a meeting that could change the nation. Unlike most nations in Renatia Vaduz had never once been in a war, whether attacking or defending, it had always remained Neutral and it seems to of worked as it was one of the richest (by GDP Per Capita.) and most developed nations on Renatia. A recent poll showed over 80% of the nations population saw no need what so ever for the military and only a small coast guard, under the control of the Director of the Interior, should remain. 8% thought everything, including the coast guard, should be abolished, 10% thought it should stay as it is now, and only 2% thought it should be increased.

As it stood the military was nothing impressive. The Streitkräfte von Vaduz* cost 1.2 Billion a year and contained 10,000 members. The Ground Armee von Vaduz had 8,500 men. Equipment was usually up to date but nothing to impressive, it had around 14 light tanks. The Navy had around 1,000 members with 8 vessels to speak of. While the Airforce had 1,000 members and 25 (no fighters) Aircraft.

The last time it had been deployed was 42 years ago for Humanitairan Needs and it was the opinion of most the nation it was time to disband the armed forces and put the money somewhere else.

The Diet had been in discussion for over an hour. The main party and the Liberal-Green Party were in favour but the 8 other members were totally against and were threatening to walk out if the nations military was disbanded. "Gentleman please all calm down," As the Prime Minister spoke the talking stopped. " We must do what is best for our people. If the military is disbnaded we will look for a major power to aid us in a time of need. Plus I doubt Jogen would stand by and let a hostile nation gain a foothold on the continent." Few could deny both arguments had logic to them. "We have much to offer a nation in turn for protection. We are rich, we have a strategic position between this continent and Agabia, and we will have many empty military bases.

However the 8 members were hard to convince and eventually a vote was called by the Prime Minister and seconded by his Deputy and the leader of the Liberal-Green Alliance. The Speaker of the House, who unofficially was the 101 member and had the deciding vote in an unlikely 50/50 split, stood and began to speak. "All in favour of the Act stand and say AYE.," he counted the numvers. "All against Stand and say Nay." e waited and continued. "I hereby Declare that his Majesty's Diet has passed this act 93/100."

The act had passed and the Prime Minister smiled. One of his electoral promises was a large decrease in the military numbers and he had finally done it. He had served his nation for 8 years and knew he would have to step down in 52 AE.

The news came with happiness across the nation. It also came with the promise of a new Ship Building Industry for the poorer members of society on one of the Southern Islands and that any of the former members of the Armed Forces will be given a job there if they wish. Most of them were happy. Their wages would go up, and they would never be shot at.

A coast guard will be responsible for the maratime protection of citizens and the protection of naval Trade.
