![]() Aus'tiana Broadcasting Group Reporting from As'krios Altivar 10, 51Æ Greens consolidate into Identity, Communists split Major changes will have fundamental changes in how parliament is run ![]() In a surprising turn of events in an otherwise seemingly bleak situation for the Aus'tianian Identity Party, negotiations with the Greens have resulted in the dissolution of the minor party and the addition of its Assemblymen to the still-minority government; days later, the Communist Party previously led by Aleia Ar'ner announced its dissolution due to "internal conflicts" and the creation of two new parties, the National Communist Party of Aus'tiana and the Aus'tiana Marxist-Leninist Party. These events bring about two major changes: first, the Identity Party now holds 39% of the house with 156 seats, the minority government now needs the approval of only 44 other assemblymen in order to pass a bill. Second, the breakup of the Communist Party means that no one party or faction forms the opposition in the National Assembly, giving more power to the Identarians to pass legislation. Talks between the Greens and the Identarians began just days after the most recent national election, and since both parties agreed with one another in principle with all but one issue, the Identarians compromised into adding environmentalist policies to their party platform in exchange for combining the parties together. Silen Ys'nala, the Green Party leader, has been given a key government position after the merger was complete. The Communist Party's breakup was not uncalled for, say political analysts, citing the nation's long historical rift between nationalist and Marxist socialism as an unresolved issue within the all-too-idealistic Party. The party leader represented the minority's opinion in their foreign policy towards Courlund: Ar'ner supported pro-Courlundish policies said to be due at least in part to her Davaist husband while the majority of party members gained a staunch anti-Davaist perspective gained over the last year. After the party's success in the most recent election, it became too big for its own weight for such an issue to go ignored, and a rift grew within the organization, leading to its dissolution and split. With the future looking bright, the Identarians will surely attempt more radical legislation now that they hold more influence in the National Assembly.
