![]() Suthrland: A National Profile A look at the forgotten post-Confederate failed State Published by the Aus'tianian Department of Foreign Affairs The region of Central Agabia has seen its fair share of war, peace, democracy and dictators; from the age of the Nine Free Kindreds to the modernized Kinsman Federation, the area has been riddled with instability and change throughout its past. The fall of the Greater Confederacy of the Free Kindreds and the assassination of Andsvarr Asman lead to the breakup of some territory previously held by the Kinsman empire and ultimately to the creation of New Irastan and Suthrland. Today the nation is among the most corrupt, criminal, and unstable in the world, and while the region is faced with rebellions in Tzetxuhoan and the Irani-Faragoon War, the internal situation of Suthrland has been left relatively unnoticed. Part One: Politics ![]() Loðmundr Valisman Andersen is the nation's founder and High Chieftain The nation was created out of the Greater Confederacy's downfall and the death of the Chieftain of Valisgard, a staunch supporter of Andsvarr Asman, leaving a power vacuum in the southern regions of the area. With the traditional tribal structure to Kinsman culture, there were influential factions and major families took the opportunity to take as much power as they could for themselves, apart from the now defunct Confederacy. After almost a year of infighting, one individual backed by some of the most powerful families as well as foreign interest became the leading voice in the nation's political chaos, uniting the population into a single and governable nation. Loðmundr Valisman Andersen is accredited to the foundation of the nation and now holds the position he created of High Chieftain. Heads of major families and leaders of factions were given key government positions to mitigate their quarrels with one another, and the nation seemed like it would benefit from the sudden peace they now enjoyed. Andersen drafted the constitution that entrusts the executive position he holds absolute power over the nation, as well as having no separation of powers and giving all authority to the central government. Media and communications are monopolized under the State, however private channels can still run with government permission. Traditional Kinsman cultural norms are upheld in the constitution i.e. the right to private property, the right to bear arms, gender inequality, and so on. The nation's foreign policies are explicitly isolationist in nature, nevertheless ties with Jogen and the Movaro-Nentsian Empire have been upheld via non-diplomatic channels. Andersen has stated that the Chiefdom would not enter into international agreements, and would promote the national sovereignty of all nations. The country has shared no official diplomatic interactions with any other country since the Kinsman-New Irastani-Suthrlander conferences, administered by Jogen influence over Kinsman politics.
