King Alcmund of Bernicia walked in the Park of Freedom in his capital, Bekla. A troupe of musicians had attracted a crowd around the central bandstand. Strains of their music reached the King's ears as he ambled despondently: "I never thought I could feel this way And I've got to say that I just don't get it. I don't know where we went wrong, But the feeling's gone And I just can't get it back." Just a few days before the northern part of the Integritist Union had descended into anarchy: Dux Henrik Larsson was simply a ruler too weak for the rule of one of the largest countries in the world. His Regional Rectors were too faithful in him to listen to their restless subjects and move with the times. Alcmund cast his mind back to two years ago when the Union was at war with Vertadoria and Dux Harrison Tobjorn had led his troops from the front in a tragic desperate assault. Those days were definitely over. Larsson was presently cowering in his Aiberdeen palace while rioting civilians and mutinous soldiers alike were swept up in the chaos: the havoc of ideological failure. King Alcmund had tried to keep his people content with their rulers but he simply couldn't trust the citizens of Zeray - the closest to the unrest - to remain peaceful. He had to take positive action. |
