Due to Narda's union with the Jogen Confederacy, elections must now be held for all federal positions. Campaigning is about to get under-way, and polls will open in one month's time. This election will see the most amount of mainstream parties ever enter the race, with nine of them vying for people's votes. Before the race gets going properly, let's take a look at the parties:

The Alliance of Jogen Liberals (AJL)
The AJL is one of the Confederacy's most popular parties. Formed on the basis of liberalism, the party seeks to create a liberal capitalist democracy, whilst retaining most of the state, including a limited welfare system. Their leader, Pashe Belya, is a charismatic man, whose well liked personality has helped his party be the senior partner in this past government

Economic Position: Moderate Capitalist
Social Position: Slight Permissive
Moral Position: Slight Liberal
Political Position: Liberalism
Government Size: Medium Government
Military Stance: Neutral

The Democratic Union (DU)
At the last ever Nardan elections, the Democratic Union held the most seats, and tried unsuccessfully to form a government. Subsequent to Narda's union with the Confederacy, the party decided that no existing party fully represented its views. As such, they have retained their independence but, as their support base is concentrated in Narda, they enter the political race as very much the underdogs, rather than the major party that they were in Narda. They are now led by Davos Parker, who comes from a prominent Nardan industrialist family.

Economic Position: Moderate Capitalist
Social Position: Slight Authoritarian
Moral Position: Neutral
Political Position: Conservative Capitalist
Government Size: Medium Government
Military Stance: Moderate Warmonger

The Freedom Party (FP)
Led by Maya Nikolev, the Freedom Party is the continuation of the People's Front of Wylde, which sought to create a nation free of all government interference. Opposed to restrictions on both civil and economic rights, the Freedom Party is already massively popular, but has been given even more of a boost by Narda's National Conservatives, who decided to merge into it following the union of Jogen and Narda.

Economic Position: Moderate Capitalist
Social Position: Slight Permissive
Moral Position: Moderate Liberal
Political Position: Liberal Capitalist
Government Size: Small Government
Military Stance: Moderate Warmonger

The Green Party (GP)
Advocating Green Socialism, the Green Party seeks to merge environmentalism with socialist ideals. It is well known that such a system can work, and so it is with high hopes that this Green Party enters the race. Their leader is Elena Arsk, a lifelong campaigner for environmentalism, who comes with an army of loyal 'hippy' supporters.

Economic Position: Green Socialist
Social Position: Slight Permissive
Moral Position: Slight Liberal
Political Position: Green Activism
Government Size: Large Government
Military Stance: Extreme Pacifist

The Jogen Communist Party (JCP)
Led by Jelena Osipov, this party grew out of the Jetpackistani Freedom Front. Whilst independence may have been achieved, the rest of the front's communistic ideals have not. The party endeavours to create a utopian communist state through centrist personal rights, and strong economic restriction. Many Jogens have a bad taste in their mouths in regards to communism thanks to years of rule from the Glorious Socialist Republic, so it is unclear as to how well the party will perform.

Economic Position: Communist
Social Position: Slight Authoritarian
Moral Position: Slight Liberal
Political Position: Socialist-Communist
Government Size: Large Government
Military Stance: Moderate Warmonger

The Libertarian Party of Jogen (LPJ)
The Libertarian Party of Jogen seeks to reduce government input in the lives of the general populace, whilst maintaining a good business infrastructure. Moderate restrictions on free enterprise would be seen, although the extent of which would be nowhere near that of the left wing parties prevalent. The party's leader, Stepan Tikhov, has even gone to the extent of distancing himself from them. After a term as a junior coalition partner, many of the party's more extreme activists were annoyed by the lack of liberal or libertarian policies implemented, and so it may well be unlikely that the party would form another government with the AJL or FP.

Economic Position: Moderate Capitalist
Social Position: Moderate Permissive
Moral Position: Moderate Liberal
Political Position: Libertarian Capitalist
Government Size: Small Government
Military Stance: Neutral

The Social Democratic Party (DP)
Led by Andro Krathitis, the Social Democratic Party (formerly the Democratic Party) encompasses a wide range of ideals. As democratic socialists, they seek to give the people of Jogen the freedom they have fought for, whilst enshrining the anti-capitalist ideals formerly prevalent in the nation. Krathitis is hailed as a national hero and a living legend, and his leadership of the party has done wonders for it in the past. The party has also been buoyed on by Narda's Social Democratic Party, who merged with it on the condition they add 'Social' to the name.

Economic Position: Moderate Socialist
Social Position: Neutral
Moral Position: Slight Liberal
Political Position: Democratic Socialist
Government Size: Medium Government
Military Stance: Neutral

The Syndicalist Party (SP)
Also known as Trade Unionism, Syndicalism seeks to bring about a state devoid of Capitalism or State Socialism through alliances of Trade Unions, co-operatively running the country in the interests of the people. It is a unique ideal as far as Jogen politics goes, as the other parties still support a government in some form. Their leader, Alek Timov, is a renowned authority on the subject and is widely published.

Economic Position: Slight Socialist
Social Position: Extreme Permissive
Moral Position: Extreme Liberal
Political Position: Syndicalist/Trade Unionist
Government Size: No Government
Military Stance: Slight Warmonger

The Jogen Traditionalists (JT)
Advocating some of the ideals employed in the old regime although, they insist, not the totalitarian side, the Jogen Traditionalists have a surprising amount of support from the country's older population. Their leader, Ilya Chistya, is an experienced politician, having served in the government of the Glorious Socialist Republic before defecting to the Free Democrats.

Economic Position: Authoritarian Communist
Social Position: Moderate Restrictive
Moral Position: Moderate Conservative
Political Position: Statism
Government Size: Large Government
Military Stance: Extreme Warmonger

The State of Courlund officially supports the bid of The Social Democratic Party but will happily work with any part the confederate citizens choose.

Polls have now opened for the Jogen Confederacy's elections. Millions of eligible citizens are expected to take to the polls to decide on their new government. The past term has been seen as a widely successful one for the AJL-LPJ-FP coalition, but there have been some 'niggles' that have made the possibility of a new government all the more life-like. However, pollsters can't seem to agree on what the outcome will be, some predicting a leftist victory, others predicting a rightist one. What's for sure is that this vote will be close, and it is in no doubt that the back room coalition deals will play an all important part in determining what government the Confederacy gets.

OOC: Polls will be open until Saturday.

Quite typically, the Elebeneese voice support for the Green Party of Jogen, particularly the Green Party of the Elebeneese Empire. However, Maya Nikolev is also widely popular in Eleben, particularly Eleben Province, that borders Wylde.

So, the polls have closed and the votes have been counted. Without further ado, let's see who's won what, and who's lost out.

First off, the Parliament. Members of this lower house are elected by proportional representation from the country as a whole. Remember that a party must gain 2% of the initial total vote to be awarded seats in this 300 member house.

The Libertarian Party of Jogen - 29% (87 Seats)
The Alliance of Jogen Liberals - 25% (75 Seats)
The Freedom Party - 21% (63 Seats)
The Social Democratic Party - 14% (42 Seats)
The Democratic Union - 5% (15 Seats)
The Green Party - 3% (9 Seats)
The Jogen Communist Party - 3% (9 Seats)

The Syndicalist Party and the Jogen Traditionalists both failed to obtain above the 2% needed for the first time in their history. In addition, we have seen a continuation of the shift away from the left, with the top three parties all now considering themselves right wing. Another less expected result is that the Libertarian Party has actually overtaken the Liberals in share of the vote, although the Liberals can no doubt retain their status as one of the country's largest and most influential parties. The relatively successful term of Maya Nikolev has clearly done well for the Freedom Party, who have yet again increased their share of the vote.

Now, over to the upper house; Congress. Congress is made up of 150 members, who represent individual constituencies throughout the country. Each constituency elects 3 representatives by the Single Transferable Vote.

The Freedom Party - 32 Seats
The Alliance of Jogen Liberals - 27 Seats
The Libertarian Party of Jogen - 26 Seats
The Social Democratic Party - 24 Seats
The Democratic Union - 20 Seats
The Jogen Communist Party - 16 Seats
The Green Party - 3 Seats
The Jogen Traditionalists - 1 Seat
The Syndicalist Party - 1 Seat

Clearly the smaller, more localised parties such as the Communists, Freedom Party and the Democratic Union have benefited from their support in their home constituencies. However, they haven't quite managed to beat the larger parties, but the benefits have been enough to help the Freedom Party retain a similar percentage as in Parliament, where its rivals have suffered from considerably dropped shares.

Now, finally, for the President. The President is elected by the Alternative Vote system and each political party fields a single candidate to represent them. Included below is the breakdown of the elimination process:

Maya Nikolev (FP) - 20%
Andro Krathitis (SDP) - 18%
Pashe Belya (AJL) - 16%
Jelena Osipov (JCP) - 14%
Stepan Tikhov (LPJ) - 12%
Davos Parker (DU) - 10%
Elena Arsk (GP) - 5%
Alek Timov (SP) - 3%
Ilya Chistya (JT) - 2%

Maya Nikolev (FP) - 20%
Andro Krathitis (SDP) - 19%
Pashe Belya (AJL) - 16%
Jelena Osipov (JCP) - 15%
Stepan Tikhov (LPJ) - 12%
Davos Parker (DU) - 10%
Elena Arsk (GP) - 5%
Alek Timov (SP) - 3%

Maya Nikolev (FP) - 20%
Andro Krathitis (SDP) - 20%
Pashe Belya (AJL) - 16%
Jelena Osipov (JCP) - 15%
Stepan Tikhov (LPJ) - 12%
Davos Parker (DU) - 10%
Elena Arsk (GP) - 7%

Andro Krathitis (SDP) - 26%
Maya Nikolev (FP) - 20%
Pashe Belya (AJL) - 17%
Jelena Osipov (JCP) - 15%
Stepan Tikhov (LPJ) - 12%
Davos Parker (DU) - 10%

Andro Krathitis (SDP) - 26%
Maya Nikolev (FP) - 23%
Pashe Belya (AJL) - 22%
Jelena Osipov (JCP) - 15%
Stepan Tikhov (LPJ) - 14%

Maya Nikolev (FP) - 32%
Pashe Belya (AJL) - 27%
Andro Krathitis (SDP) - 26%
Jelena Osipov (JCP) - 15%

Andro Krathitis (SDP) - 39%
Maya Nikolev (FP) - 33%
Pashe Belya (AJL) - 28%

Maya Nikolev (FP) - 51%
Andro Krathitis (SDP) - 49%

Just like in the last elections, it came down to a close contest between two national heroes. Party politics have little to do with Presidential elections, as is obvious with Andro Krathitis' excellent showing despite his party's large dip in the polls. Strong support from elsewhere though bolstered Maya Nikolev to successfully elect her to the Presidency of the Jogen Confederacy for a second consecutive term.

What will begin now is a series of frantic and secretive negotiations to try and arrive at a suitable coalition or arrangement to control the legislature of the nation. Without at least a majority in the lower house, any government would find it extremely hard to command the control and confidence of Parliament. From examining the lower house's breakdown of seats, it should be clear that it is the newly re-elected President's party; the Freedom Party, who holds the balance of power. Nikolev's party is clearly the third largest, and so could not be the senior partner in a coalition, but with their relatively large proportion of seats, they could well still hold considerable influence. Only time will tell which way the Freedom Party will go - to the Liberals or the Libertarians.

Emerging today, two days after the Jogen election results were announced, are two competing possibilities for a government.

The Alliance of Jogen Liberals and the Jogen Libertarian Party emerged with 25 and 29 percent of the vote in Parliament respectively, meaning that they are now both trying to woo the Freedom Party, who gained 21% of the votes, in order to create a stable coalition government.

The Freedom Party is widely seen to lie right in the middle of the AJL and LPJ, meaning that it is ideologically, as well as practically, a difficult choice for the party's leadership. Whilst both the AJL and LPJ are roughly similar where economics is concerned, the LPJ is much more permissive where civil rights are concerned than the AJL who, in itself, is still (as the name suggests) liberal. Likewise, they both have similar military and foreign affairs positions, but the LPJ supports a small government, where the AJL supports a mid-sized one.

Political analyst, Eduard Vorobev, is here in the studio. Eduard, which side do you think the Freedom Party is most likely to be attracted to?

"Well, politically, the Freedom Party is closer to the Libertarians, as both support small government. However, the LPJ side of the coalition was much more critical of the last government, especially in regards to Maya Nikolev's foreign policy, so that may make a coalition between the two parties less appealing."

Yes, the LPJ backbenchers had made it clear that, by the end of the term, they were unhappy with the coalition as it stood. They've clearly changed their tune?

"Not as much as you'd think. The LPJ's main problem was with the majority AJL-controlled legislature, whose policies didn't wholly agree with their own. Any coalition with the Libertarians and the Freedom Party would have a majority, so the Liberals wouldn't be a problem for them."

Oh yes and, of course, the possible LPJ-FP partnership would be the only one with a majority in the Parliament.

"Indeed, but it is rumoured that the Liberals are attempting to work around that problem by opening talks with the Democratic Union. The AJL may shoot themselves in the foot though by offering an alliance with this non-liberal party, as there would be considerable unease amongst the Freedom Party's grassroots and core voters if this went ahead and, indeed, it may not make it past the backbenchers."

So it's unlikely?

"I wouldn't say that, a lot depends on what concessions each party is willing to make. Whilst Maya Nikolev may be the President, a successful government would have to have ministers from the coalition partner(s) in. The amount of ministers would be an important sticking point. Likewise, the amount of Freedom Party policies that would be enacted would also be very important."

Mr Vorobev, thank you. As you can see, it's anyone's guess which way the Freedom Party will go but, with an announcement expected in the next day or so, we won't have much longer to wait.

And it's here! The new government of the Jogen Confederacy has been announced! Maya Nikolev made the announcement in a press conference not long ago. She stated that, subject to approval by both sides' parliamentary parties, the Freedom Party and Jogen Libertarian Party will be entering into a coalition for government.

The announcement came after four days of discussions that involved the Alliance of Jogen Liberals and Jogen Libertarian Party attempt to woo the Freedom Party into a coalition with each of them separately. It became clear though, that the politics of a coalition with the Liberals, that would most likely include the conservative Democratic Union, was not something that the Freedom Party's members could agree to. Presdient Nikolev stated in the press conference that the JLP had made the most comprehensive and advantageous offer for a coalition agreement.

The next important announcement came with the agreement of the cabinet minister appointments, with who taking what position largely being seen as an indicator for how each department would develop and change during the term.

President - Maya Nikolev
Prime Minister - Stepan Tikhov
Finance - Ivan Khokhlov
Foreign Affairs - Pavel Aleksov
Defence - Leonid Chernys
Law and Justice - Eduard Gromo
Health - Lena Belov
Education and Science - Viktor Klimov
Agriculture, Industry and the Environment - Konsta Stepanov
Energy and Transport - Petya Chernov

With their plurality in Parliament, it is little surprise that Stepan Tikhov, leader of the LPJ, has been appointed as Prime Minister. Due to the LPJ's larger legislature share, but the FP's holding of the Presidency, it would seem that all cabinet positions have been evenly distributed between the two parties, with the Freedom Party retaining control over important external positions, and the LPJ being handed the internal ones, which will gel well with the LPJ-led legislation efforts.

On the face of it, this coalition looks to be one of the most stable the country has had, but only time will tell whether this assessment is a sound one. Until then though, we are left to sit and wonder as to what effect this new government will have on the country.
