Alcmund Leodwalding had been a Colonel in the Deiran army until quite recently. his cousin was the President of Deira at the moment but that could all change. He was on the train to Bekla, the capital of Bernicia. Fifteen years ago his uncle Coelwulf had been deposed from the position of King of Bernicia. Alcmund was going to reclaim it. When he got out of the train he walked to the central Square of the capital. There was a people carrier parked there and Alcmund got in. In it was a dozen armed men. They drove to the Presidential Palace and the men opened fire on the guards, entered the Palace and went on a rampage. King Alcmund I of Bernicia sat on his three-day old throne and accepted the homage of the many senior officials of the realm. Most of the republicans dotted around the country had been defeated. Bernicia had a long history of civil war, treachery and revolution and this was simply a footnote on the page of history. The disguised dictator who had been the ruler of Bernicia until then had been locked up in the cavernous dungeons under the Palace. He wouldn't be a hard act to beat. Alcmund toyed with the idea of invading Deira but decided that it would be dishonourable to invade during an election. He loved the power that monarchy gave him and he suspected that he would never tire of it.. |

The Nentsian prime minister Nenetskin urges the illegitimite leader of Bernicia to organize free elections immediately. ''The Bernicians deserve to govern themselves, to chose their own leaders. Until that time, Nentsia will stop all trade with Bernicia and give a negative advise for tourists to Bernicia.'' said Commissar of Foreign Affairs Ivanna Kovacheva. |

Dear King Alcmund Leodwalding I, The previous regime in Bernicia was corrupt, unfair, and did not provide the people of Bernicia with any stable, or lasting leadership. We do not see the previous government as ever having a legitimate, effective form of governance. The puppet regime lacked the courage, and truthfulness of your current government. I wish you all the best in your development of Bernicia. I hope that you bear no resentment to the UIT; and I offer you my hand in friendship as an honest, and open neighbor. May you rule with courtesy, integrity, perseverance, self control, and an unbreakable spirit, |

King Alcmund read his international mail. The Dux couldn't have put it better. He wrote a polite reply in which he expressed his hope for amical relations between them. The Nentsian communication was more distressing. Bernicia didn't especially need Nentsian trade or tourism but already Alcmund was viewed as a liberator from the unpopular regime of Mandelson. The legitimate monarch of Bernicia decided not to reply to that one. |
