After all the delegates had arrived... The Grand Patriot was a young man, and although he was of Grampian nationality he had dark skin. He was the leader of a wealthy, liberal and environmentally friendly dictatorship. He sat down at the conference table with a glass of scotch and had a crew of waitresses, who were barely clothed bring scotch and water to all the delegates. He slounched back in his large armchair and began to speak, "Welcome to the Grampian Highlands, one of the greatest small countries in the world. We are here to discuss the recent tensions between Aus'tiana and Courlund. I am honoured to have so many important politicians gather under my roof, and I hope that you all enjoy your time here. Anyways, let us commence this discussion..." |

Lady Xena sat surrounded by her army of aides waiting for the highland guy to start talking she was not sure why she was here, our more precisley why the talks were taking place here, but she had been sent and she would do her job well and maybe by the end of the day what was trully theirs would be back in her fathers hand and Courlund would be on its way to being the great nation it once was before her empire was carved up many years ago. She rejected the whiskey prefering to keep a clear mind for the discussions that where surley ahead of them, she arrived ready for a very very long day but she hoped she would be disapointed and prven wrong. She spoke to the gathered men and woman. "Once Courlunds Kingdom was far greater than it was today, and much of the land we wish to reclaim is in what is now called Aus'tiana. The Aus'tianas revolted against their rightful rulers and we demand our lands back." |

Chancellor Baltar Sha'krios shook his head at the woman, "we didn't revolt against our 'rightful' rulers. They were petty dictators who oppressed the people. In Aus'tiana, now and forever, we choose our own rulers in a modern democratic process. That is the way of our people, as chosen by them, and they had to fight for that during the time of Courlundish oppression in the area. I am completely open to have a public referendum to let the people choose, as that is what we believe in, the people choosing for themselves. Would you be opposed to this, Lady Xena?" |

Baltar Sha'krios seemed like a man of power and learning and Xena was not very happy that he was the one opposing Courlund taking control of Aus'tiana land for themselves. When Lady Xena had arrived in the nation the military had been put on alert in case anything happened, and although her father was ill he was very concerned that she would be ok. She worried about her father and had made sure the finest Doctors in Courlund were available to hiim at all times. She looked at the Chancellor and remained neutral in apperance. She knew the referendum could work for and against Courlund. If the people voted yes then they would be validated and no nation could say it was injust but if it came out no, which was the likely conclusion, it would turn against Courlund. "I believe this would be acceptable. How would this work?" |

Baltar smiled to himself and leaned forward on the chair. "Well, Lady Xena: elections work by having people vote on an issue rather than just decree a decision by a dictator or King, not to insinuate a comparison of the two in your father's case. We'll put out a vote, collect the votes, tally them, and announce the people's decision. This will take about a month in total to organize everything, then to host and tally the votes." Baltar stood from the chair and walked over to the Courlundish royal, holding his and out to shake on the deal and make it official. "Do you accept my proposal?" |

She smiiled to herself. "Irony is the lowest form of wit, and from such and educated man, I expected much more from someone of your standing Sha'krios." She turned to the man on her left. He had remained silent all the way through the talks. They talked in a hushed whisper for about thirty seconds and they, and the other aides stood. Fpr a second she looked into his eyes then took his hand. "Ok, how do we not know you will influence the votes?" Edited by Cour, 14 Apr 2010, 01:09 AM.

Baltar smiled again, shaking her hand. "How do we know you won't? You can send delegates to be present at the vote-counting, we are not unreasonable," he said with a little bow. |

Xena Smiled again. "Then I, on behalf of the Kingdom of Courlund I accept this propsal. When will this take place? And how many people will be eligable to vote?" |

"It will take place in approximately one month, and we'll notify you so that you can send your monitors to the vote tallies. Approximately 32 million people will be voting on the referendum, the entire country will vote, and that was about our official vote tally in my own election," Baltar said. |

For the Grand Patriot the discussions were over too soon. He expected it to take much longer so that the delegates could taste his delicious whiskeys, and enjoy his lavish hospitality. He hoped to spend an evening dining, drinking and smoking with the leaders of the world. But, it all appeared to be over. |
