Note: This information is copied, word for word, from Moreta: Dragonlady of Pern, with a few additions at the end. Green Female (20-24 metres) The smallest and most numerous of the dragons. Light, highly maneuverable and agile, the greens are the sprinters of dragonkind. They breathe short bursts of flame. Greens are rendered sterile through a sex-linked disability triggered by chronic use of firestone. Greens Impress to both men and women of all preferences and personalities, with the notable exception of heterosexual men. Their personalities widely vary, and it is thus difficult to predict who they will choose. Greens comprise approximately 50% of a Weyr's fighting strength. Blue Male (24-30 metres) The workhorse of the dragons. Medium-sized, the blues are as tough as the greens but not as maneuverable. They have more stamina under pressure and are capable of maintaining flame longer. Blues Impress to more men than women, and have riders of all preferences and personalities. Blues comprise approximately 25% of a Weyr's fighting strength. Brown Male (30-40 metres) Larger than greens and blues, some well-grown browns are as big as smaller bronzes and could actually mate with the queens if they so dared. The browns are the real wheel-horses of the dragons, reasonably agile and strong enough to go a whole Fall without faltering. They are more intelligent than blues or greens, with greater powers of concentration. Browns and their riders sometimes act as Weyrlingmasters, training the young dragons and riders. Browns Impress to men (hetero- or bisexual only) and the occasional woman (almost always bi- or homosexual). They tend to be sturdy, dependable, and loyal, though they may not be brave enough to take matters into their own hands and prefer to follow. Browns comprise approximately 13.5% of a Weyr's fighting strength. Bronze Male (35-45 metres) The leaders of the dragons. All bronzes compete to mate with the gold queens; the rider whose dragon succeeds becomes Weyrleader. Bronzes are generally trained for leadership and assume Wingleader and Wingsecond positions along with browns. Bronzes and their riders often act as Weyrlingmasters, training the young dragons and riders. Bronzes Impress only to heterosexual men. They are often intelligent, strong-minded men with the ability to lead and think for themselves. Most are rather practically-minded, and the majority of bronzes (and riders) are quite the flirts. Bronzes comprise approximately 7% of a Weyr's fighting strength. Gold Female (40-45 metres) The bearer of young, the queen is traditionally mated by whichever bronze can catch her. Although browns can mate with queens - and sometimes do, in the case of junior queens - this is unusual and not encouraged. The queen is fertile and bears eggs which she oversees until they hatch. Clutch sizes range from ten to forty; generally, the larger clutches occur during a Pass. The senior queen, usually the dragon of the oldest queen rider, is the most prestigious dragon and is responsible for all the dragons in the Weyr and for the propagation of her species. Golds Impress only to heterosexual women. They usually are strong-minded, but there is a great deal of variety among queens and their riders. Queen dragons are almost always proud. Golds comprise approximately 1% of a Weyr's fighting strength Edited by Aerozier, Jul 3 2009, 05:20 PM.

And as for our noncanon colours, meet quartz and tourmaline! Quartz Female (29-34 metres) The smaller of the fertile females, quartz are rumoured to be a mutation of browns. Usually caught by browns when they Rise to mate (two to three times per Turn after reaching two), bronzes and the occasional blue father their small clutches of one to three eggs. Usually gentle and motherly like, quartz have a seemingly endless amount of patience. They are soft spoken and slightly shy around strangers. They rely on their riders for confidence and are very clingy to anyone they befriend. Quartz will do anything to protect their riders, even to the point of harming human or dragon. They are curious dragons and are greatly fond of firelizards and whers for some reason. Quartz are also known for bonding well with their bigger brown brothers. Usually a pale grey, off white or a pale brown as a base color. Across their body is a variety of light to dark brown streaks that create a variety of lines and resembling the stone, quartz. They are thought to be browns who lack a majority of their pigment except for the few areas on their hide (hence the streaks). Quartz dragons Impress to heterosexual and bisexual women. Quartz comprise approximately .5% of a Weyr's fighting strength. Tourmaline Male (33-38 metres) Charismatic and friendly, a tourmaline is not lacking in friends. It's almost as if they are people-magnets - they are rarely alone with their rider and tend to be sad when they are. They have difficulty hiding their emotions, their hearts constantly 'on their sleeves'. Despite this, they are well balanced between positive and negative emotions, though they often have more of one depending on their colours (a darker dragon might be more melancholy, while a brightly coloured one cheerful and bubbly). They are talkative, for the most part, and would happily go to parties if someone thought to invite them. Always boasting at least two colours, tourmalines do not change colour by light. No, they are multicoloured at all hours of the day, seven days a... sevenday. Stocky rather than slender, tourmalines tend to be heavily built. Lighter colours tend to highlight their muscles, while the darker ones mark areas with little over the bone. There appears to be no limitation on what colours a Tourmaline has, but the most seen in a single dragon is three, not counting slight shade differences. A tourmaline can Impress to heterosexual or bisexual men, or occasionally a bisexual or homosexual woman. Tourmalines comprise approximately 3% of a Weyr's fighting strength. |
