Arwen Undomiel sat in the gardens near courtyard that had been made for her. The smell of the flowers and the comforting feel of the natural world around her helped sooth her restless mood today. She looked out away from the city and imagined she could see the sea, she so desperately wished that Minas Tirith was near the sea. Then she could look out and know that her father was safe out there with her mother. But even if they were near the sea it would probably be the wrong direction.

Arwen did not regret her decision to stay behind. On the contrary she was happier than she'd ever been before in Middle Earth but she missed her parents and grandparents. Still she liked to come here and think of them. The memories sometimes made her sad but rememebering the happier ones made her heart light once more.

She leant forward and clasped her hands in a small pryaer for her father and mother. She smiled as she thought of them being reunited once more after so long apart, just like her and Aragorn. She looked around the gardens once more seemingly lost in quiet contemplation

The servants had told him she was out here in the gardens. The King walked quietly through the grassy paths, admiring the blossoming indileth and merileth. This was the only part of the stone city that teemed with the foliage and greenery that had been the backdrop to his childhood in Imladris. That was long ago, when he was Estel.

With a smile, he realized that maybe he was still that boy. Estel. Hope. That and more was he to the people of Gondor and Arnor. Estel. It pleased him to think that this name, among his many, was the true heart of who he had become. He plucked a flower of elanor from its bed and twirled it between his fingers.

“Arwen,” he said softly, emerging into the small clearing where she sat.

He handed her the yellow, star-shaped flower and took a seat next to her. The artificial walls of hedge did not bother him like the impenetrable stone of his council chambers. He found the shrub sculptures more inviting and beautiful than the blank eyes of the marble in the throne room.

“I was thinking on Imladris just now,” he said. “This part of the garden reminds me of the glade where the smallest waterfall floods a pond every spring.”

Translation: indileth = golden-water flower, possibly morning glory; merileth = rose; elanor= star-shaped yellow flower that grows in Lothlorien on Cerin Amroth.

“Arwen,”

Arwen looked up with a smile recognising the voice as that of her husband. She turned to him her blue eyes shining with joy at seeing him. She smiled as he handed her a small flower. Elanor...one of her favourite flowers of Lothlorien. It was also one of the flowers that grew on Cerin Amroth where she and Aragorn had sworn themselves to each other. She looked at the star shaped flower thinking how it seemed to fit her. The Evenstar. She twirled it in her own fingers looking down at the flowers in front of her for a moment before her husband spoke.

“I was thinking on Imladris just now,”

She smiled at the memory of her former home. She had taken a little while to adjust to living in a large city such as Minas Tirith but the capital of Gondor was beautiful in its own way and she was with Aragorn which made her happier than she had ever been before. She turned to Aragorn watching his face carefully.

This part of the garden reminds me of the glade where the smallest waterfall floods a pond every spring.”

Arwen nodded but did not say anything just yet. Her eyes shone and her face showed that whilst she missed Rivendell she was happy here. She was grateful that this garden had been planted for her though so she could have some reminder of her former home. But she did feel a little sad that there was no one to dwell in Rivendell now.

"I miss Rivendell..." she said very quietly. "Though I love Gondor very much..." she stopped speaking as though afraid to continue even though she wasn't.
