This Hobbit was bored. There was so little to do in cities of men but sit at the window and watch them mill about their everyday lives, which were so different to Hobbits’ lives that Milo scarcely had a point of reference for comparison. With a little sigh of impatience, his eyes flickered over the parchment and ink on the large table in his room. He had passed on to the towering bookshelf when his gaze stopped, and then reversed.

There were many maps in Hobbit records brought back by the few daring souls who ventured abroad. Milo had looked through all of them and dreamed of the day when he might make an original creation. One map that was definitely not in any collection within the Shire was a detailed, street-level map of Minas Tirith.

Dashing from his place by the window, Milo quickly gathered up his cartography supplies. Donning a pack, just like he did when drawing his maps in the Shire, he headed out into the busy street beyond his door. With parchment and a sharp pencil in his right hand and a compass resting on his left palm, Milo began the long walk down to the first level of the city where he would begin drawing Minas Tirith.
