The moon was almost fully risen into the sky. There were fewer stars than there could have been tonight and that in itself made her a little sad. The woods of Lothlorien were rather desolate and without song now that most had crossed to the Undying lands. She stood leaning against one of the taller trees gazing out of Caras Galedhon towards the West. She wondered what was out there but her heart was too focused on what she was missing most at the moment apart from the songs and the company of the other elves. She missed her parents. Yes she knew she was over 2500 years old now, she should be able to manage without her parents but she missed them. It was hard knowing she would never see them again. She looked up at the sky. She parted her lips and began to sing.

A Elbereth Gilthoniel
silivren penna míriel
o menel aglar elenath!
Na-chaered palan-díriel
o galadhremmin ennorath,
Fanuilos le linnathon
nef aear, sí nef aearon

She closed her eyes and let the peace of Lothlorien wash over her. She could feel tears rising but she did not let them pass. She just stood there in her silver shimmering gown mourning for those who had gone. She didn't know how long she had been stood there but she was certain that no amount of mourning was going to bring them back. But she felt peaceful just watching the stars.

She heard a movement not far from where she was. She froze and her ears tuned into the movement of the person approaching her from behind. She breathed in as she looked ahead. She would not turn round for fear of startling them. She must be the graceful one unless it was a fellow elf. Somehow the idea of it being someone else scared her a little.

"Mae Govannen!" she said without turning around. Her voice was soft and steady.

{Translation

O Elbereth Starkindler,
white-glittering, sparkling like jewels,
the glory of the starry host slants down.
Having gazed far away
from the tree-woven lands of Middle-earth,
to thee, Everwhite, I will sing,
on this side of the ocean, here on this side of the great ocean

And later on

Welcome/Well Met}

Night had fallen and the small party had reached the fabled woods. A few men paused but the all had their orders from the King himself. They were to stay with the Queen and no harm should come of her. But Arwen believed that no harm would come in the wood, even if not protected by her grandmother anymore.

As the party continued into the wood, Arwen picked up the faint hint of a song. It was one that she had heard many times and it made her heart happy. For here there was at least one elf that still either dwelt, or visited, the Golden Wood.

Dismounting her horse, Arwen started off towards the voice, two of the guards following. They would allow the Queen some space, but would be within sight and hearing of her at all times. Hearing the elvish greeting, Arwen smiled.

"Mae Govannen. That is a beautiful voice that you have."

"Mae Govannen. That is a beautiful voice that you have."

Araniel turned around with a small smile. She recognised Arwen Undomiel immediately and especially now that she was Queen of Gondor and Arnor. Araniel curtsied to her before smiling and raising her eyes to the Queen's. "It is wonderful to see you here your highness" she said softly. "I only wish Lady Galadriel was still among us she would have been overjoyed to see you" she said before looking away slightly sadly.

"The woods here are too quiet nowadays" she said glancing over at the woods opposite Caras Galadhon. "It is a pity there are not more of us to greet you" she added before clasping her hands in front of her.

Not having the ears nor the eyes of an elf, the guards did not know that there was anyone else there till their Queen spoke. Their hands went quickly to their swords, but Arwen settled them with a movement of their hand. It seemed that whomever they had stumbled upon was friend not foe.

"Please, Arwen." She said in response to the formalities. They were not in a Court setting. They were in the Woods that Arwen had also called home.

"You dwelt in Lorien?" From the way that the lady was speaking, she had deffinatly had some fond times here. But it puzzled Arwen. Hadn't the elves of the Golden Wood went across the sea? Well, her grandfather was still around, but no longer here. It would just be to hard to live here when it seemed like a sadness had replaced the happy vibrant forest.

"I would say that I have gotten more of a greeting than I expected. Long has it been since I have been here and I thought all those that dwelt here were long gone."

"Indeed I was born and raised here although I have not always dwelt here" she said with a small smile. "I stayed in quarters close to the Lady Galadriel. Times were much more cheerful then despite the war. Not like now where it seems there are few elves other than me in these woods. It's quite lonely but that's only to be expected" she smiled at the Queen. "How long has it been since you were here last Lady Arwen if you do not mind my asking?"

She shook her head when Arwen wondered about why not all the elves of the Golden Wood had left. "Indeed most of them had gone to Valinor but a few of us stayed behind to watch over the dominion of men. Truth be told I did not wish to abandon the place I have called home." she said. "My family departed six years ago. Apparently they did not share the same desire as me" she said quietly.

A great sadness filled her. Arwen missed her grandmother dearly. Galadriel had been the only tie to her mother that Arwen had had after her mother had taken the ship away from these lands. Her time had been divided between that of her home in Imladris and Lorien.

"It has been many years. I was last here before the War started. After that my father would not allow for me to travel." Arwen always thought it was because of what had happened to her mother. That, and she never knew when Estel would happen upon Imladris.

"I am sorry to hear that." Arwen knew what it was like to have to bid farewell to your family. Though her two brothers decided to stay, the parting with her Father had been one that was so painful. "Where do you dwell now then?"

"It has been many years. I was last here before the War started. After that my father would not allow for me to travel."

"Of course because of the war" she said sympathetically. "I know what you mean though. My own mother and father insisted I stay with them in Lorien rather than trek to Mirkwood as was common for our family" she said nodding in understanding. "The North wasn't so dangerous for travelling though. It was all happening in the South was it not?"

"Where do you dwell now then?"

"Here of course...my heart lies with Lorien so I will not leave even though it is quiet here. I have often wondered about braving the journey down South but I find it hard to leave this place especially on my own"

"I believe it was. The Halfling destroyed the ring before the Darkness could spread much further." Thought it felt like the darkness had settled over her during the war. But maybe it was just the fact that she had been so worried about Estel.

"Do you wish to travel from here? We would not mind another on our trip." Arwen said with a smile. She did not wish to push, but someone to converse with along the journey would be nice. But if the lady wished to stay, then there was no pushing. Besides, even with the quietness of the wood, Lorien still held it's calming nature.

"Do you wish to travel from here? We would not mind another on our trip."

Araniel smiled appreciatively at the Queen. "I would be honoured" she said before pausing fear crossing her face. "I would love to come with you." she said forcing a smile back on her face. "I would not wish to intrude especially on such a long journey" she added. She was aware that part of her hesitation was due to the fact that she was scared of making such a journey. She looked behind the Queen at the men hanging back.

"How long does the journey take?" she asked nervously. She had no idea how long she would be away or where she would stay in Gondor. "I would love to but I do not know anyone in Gondor or where I would stay"

"You need only come if you wish." Arwen stressed seeing the look of fear. She did not wish to take this lady away from all she had. "You would not be intruding. In fact, you would be helping to make my travel a little better." Ridding all the way here with the guard, had been rather on the quiet side.

"The Journey isn't as long as would be expected. Epically in this time of peace the path is clear." It had seemed like it had taken forever to get here, but then again isn't that always how it was when you really wanted to get somewhere. "For the time that you stay we will find you somewhere, or you are welcome to stay with us." She of course was speaking of herself and Aragorn. While there would be some that disagreed with the arrangement, there were plenty of rooms.
