Note to self: I must read this thread more often so as to not have to perform the task of 'read-the-last-four-and-a-half-freaking-pages'

But damn, it's a pretty slick thing that's going on here. Very good idea that the cure would be somewhere no one really travels and somewhere that is considered hostile territory. Hm. I /might/ shove one of my guys in here, for fun. <3

I has a question: :) Is this going to be like a multi-chaptered threading? Or one particular thread with only those finding the cure would post in? I see a lot of people offering to go and gather the herbs, etc, but I don't read much about what those who stays in their realms end up doing. As I have Arwen, I'm pretty certain she's not going anywhere soon, even if it's for a noble cause.

I can offer her getting sick, I guess XD If you guys wish. Though I have stated about my opinion of elves and sickness earlier. Unless the board has their own take on it...?

Again, Gimli goes where Legolas goes, but I'm finding it hard to imagine he'd go anywhere else on his own, unless the King of Gondor expresses desire to see him on the trail. Or if his own people gets sick, in which case, he would be up and about.

What we generally do is have one main plot thread, then everyone else is free to do other threads reacting to the main plot thread. While this group goes to find a cure, those that stay behind can have threads talking about how successful the mission might be, how long it will take, or that they hope for a return before so-and-so dies.

If you have another idea about what can happen in the West while the mission is underway that could also be MP, then we can have two [MP] threads going at once.

I'm trying to figure out a way to get Legolas involved, as the only thing I can see Dagoras doing is to try and make a bad situation worse, and he's also in far too many threads right now for my own sanity, so I'd like him to take a step back for this one. I agree with Ama about Elves not really getting sick, so I don't really see Legolas being too involved in this either, as its not really affecting his people in Eryn Silivren. And since he doesn't really know anything about healing, I don't see him going to Minas Tirith to help out since bows and arrows have never cured anyone of anything. >_>

The only idea I've had is this: Would the HoS want to take advantage of the damage the plague is doing and perhaps try to bend the envelope a little as it were and push at some of the borders? I could definitely see Legolas (and Gimli?) reacting to that. They are both warriors and would probably be more in their element that way.

Andrea: Perhaps Pippin could go to Minas Tirith because on behalf of the Shire? Maybe the Hobbits are suffering on account of the plague as well, so he goes to Gondor to see if they could provide aid for them, not knowing that the people in Minas Tirith are suffering just as much. To me at least, Pippin would also be the ideal choice to go considering that he was (is?) one of the Guards of the Citadel.

Yes. I can see Gimli coming with Legolas to fight. ^_^ It's also a nice set up to have those stay behind have some sort of more active interaction (a.k.a. fight oriented threads). We do know that Elessar's first few years of reign wasn't peaceful. There were areas that required stronger hands, etc. With the strain of mass hysteria over this sickness, just when people have been lulled to the idea of peace/golden reign, it's understandable if others used the occasion to make trouble. Either by choice, boredom, or because they were goaded to it...

I have a question... there are thee more wizards remaining in the story, Radagast, Alatar and Pallando. Is it assumed in this board's plotline, that all three also sailed to the West? If they stayed, I sort of have this idea they should be involved with the finding of the plant, or something... considering their role in the lives of Men.

If they aren't in Earth anymore, then don't mind me if the question, please XD Watching Lord of the Rings trilogy, extended edition, has warped my brain.

By all accounts Radagast never sailed to the undying lands sailing rather remained in the woods somewhere near mirkwood. He apparently failed his duties because he cared only about nature not the world of men. As for the blue wizards In a letter, Tolkien says that the two wizards went into the East, and likely failed their mission, perhaps having started magical cults. According to LOTR wiki it is also noted that they maybe were killed by Saruman or did play a big part (perhaps starting revolt within the Easterlings).

Personally I don't see them being involved at all with the sickness though possibly for the later plot (war) though it may be wholly unnecessary atleast to me.

Andrea: It is about that time in the plotline when Thul-in-Gyrth will have spread north and could have reached the Shire. Julie's idea about Pippin coming to Minas Tirith for help would make sense in that case.

Julie: I'd like Hand of Sauron to take a step back for the moment. He's supposed to be a mysterious figure, so I don't want too many threads going on at once. That being said, he's entirely absorbed in his mission to find something or someone magical. He's basically giving his servants free reign right now. An attack could work, but Hand of Sauron probably won't be there personally.

On the Istari: It was my impression that the Istari have left Middle-earth, but that some Maiar might remain. I don't have my books here right now, so I can't look up the line that gave me that impression. Even if they are in Middle-earth, I don't foresee them playing a part in the plot.

I know this plot point is ages old but ...

Due to the loss of a few characters, the kidnapping of Lady Celarwen has been modified. Through PMs, Fran (Elladan), Julie (Legolas), and myself (playing Elessar in that thread) have decided to make Moria a trap. They were lured there by the Hand of Sauron, who wanted to kill the rescue party (which he hoped included Elessar). Celarwen is not there and possibly never has been. Many virtual cookies to Julie for that excellent suggestion.

If Celarwen's handler returns to the board and wants to continue this plot, she will be discovered in some other thread.

*ends update of very, very old plot*

:p

Ok, so I am the player of Arwen again thanks to the whole no more school and having more free time. I was thinking. Arwen gave up her immortality and became mortal when she married Aragorn. . Now with this sickness going around, the elves don't have to worry about it, but would she? I mean, true, she is still an elf, and I'm not saying that I want to go out and have her sick but it was just something that was going through my head and thought you all could clarify for me lol

Part of me is jumping up and down at the possibility. The other is trying to think logically :p

I'm pretty sure Arwen's physiology will stay Elven. She lives to an exceptional age and, as far as we know, kept her pointed ears, graceful poise, and melodic voice. I would have to say that she probably kept her immunity to illness. But if someone else disagrees ...

I've posted a new announcement about the Middle-earth New Year. I thought we could make this a fun board-wide event by throwing in a little trouble from Hand of Sauron and his followers.

On the day his master was destroyed, Hand of Sauron is bound to be a touch cranky. There are so many ways he could vent his anger. I think it's probably time for him to make his grand announcement to the world by letting his mark be seen.

I'm cackling evilly here as I unveil this idea: A murder of crebain delivers a severed human hand branded with the black Eye of Sauron in the palm -- right in the middle of the big New Year's celebration. Anyone want in on this little piece of Edgar Allan Poe inspired macabre?
