"Tell me, ambassador of Gondor, and be honest with your answer; I shan't tolerate the silver tongues of diplomats in my halls. Is this plague that your King speaks of as deadly and fast-spreading as it sounds?"

The voice of Thorin III the Stonehelm echoed out across the magnificently decorated hall of the King under the Mountain. Sat on his throne like his ancestors of old, with the axe of his father Dain II the Ironfoot hanging on the wall behind and above him, the Dwarf must have appeared intimidating even to the Men twice his height who were arrayed before him, having only just finished the series of bows and blessings considered the norm for messengers and diplomats. The leader of this entourage from Gondor, Irolas son of Idrohil he had called himself, inclined his head in a subtle gesture which almost escaped the King as being an answer to the question posed by him.

"Then I have a simple response, and a simple decree, for you to return to your King." Thorin uttered the words with a blend of regret and conviction, "No man from Gondor - or any realms infected by this plague henceforth - shall pass the borders of my lands without examination. I will post physicians at all the border outposts; any traveller, merchant or envoy seeking passage through Erebor must first meet the physician's requirements. Emergency messages can be sent to the Mountain by bird."

The thrush had become a revered bird amongst Durin's Folk since its role in the downfall of Smaug the Dragon; since the very beginning of Erebor's restoration, Man and Dwarf alike had sought to revive the almost lost art of speaking to the birds. In this time of uncertainty, those efforts would be useful.

OOC

This isn't so much a topic to RP in, but rather an 'announcement' regarding the Dwarves of the Lonely Mountain; in response to the threat of Thûl-in-Gyrth, the King under the Mountain has taken an isolationist stance, in the hopes that the plague will not reach his people.
