__ Activity Checks & Requirements There has lately been some confusion over how Activity Checks work here, so I'm posting this informational topic to make it clearer for everyone. Any questions can be sent by PM or posted in the Questions & Answers forum. Purpose The purpose of Activity Checks is not to delete or punish members. We have an open plotting system here, which means every member can make themselves as important to the main plot as they want. That sometimes means that a very crucial character has gone inactive. It is important for everyone involved in the main plot to know that character might not be back for awhile so that we can redirect our plotting efforts. Activity Requirements Hopefully from reading other informational threads, you can see that the staff here are flexible in most areas. Activity is one of those areas. There is no hard-and-fast rule on the number of posts or time limits. We use guidelines, which can always be extended if the inactive member contacts the Admin with a reasonable explanation. Residents of Arda (Humans, Elves, Dwarves, Hobbits) are expected to post In Character at least once a month. We don't think one post in 28-31 days is too much to ask. Creatures of Arda (all others) are expected to post In Character at least once every three months. This is definitely not too much to ask. Schedule of Activity Checks Around the 1st of each month, the Admin reviews each account on the board to see if any In Character posts have been made. Only In Character posts count as activity. If an account has not been logged in at all, an e-mail is sent to the member. It lists several major plot points that have happened in the last month and invites the member back. A deadline for making an IC post is given. If an account has logged in, but has not made IC posts, an e-mail is sent to the member. This e-mail thanks the member for checking in and participating OOC, but requests an IC post is made by a certain deadline. Around the 7th of each month, the accounts that received e-mails are checked again for IC activity. Only accounts that received an e-mail are checked again. If an IC post has been made, the account is left alone. If no IC post has been made, the account is moved to Missing (Inactive) if it is an original character or Retired (Inactive Canon) if the character is canon. Please note: The Admin does not always wait exactly one month to remind members about their lack of IC activity. An e-mail may be sent to the member after 20 or 25 days of no IC posts. A reminder and a deadline for posting IC (7 days) is always given in this e-mail. Reactivating Characters If you were inactive and have been removed to Missing or Retired, but want to continue playing your character at any time, you will need to contact an Admin. Original characters will be reactivated with no questions asked. Canons, however, will need to have a discussion with the Admin. They may or may not be given to the same handler twice. |
