her evil magnificence

Already, she could see the shadow upon the hill, the shadow that had once been the glorious Edoras. Cities could be rebuilt, of course, and that was why she savoured the sight. It was probable it would never be seen again… unless this Hand of Sauron laid all of Middle-Earth to waste under his shadow. Oddly enough, the thought was not immediately repulsive. Of course she feared for the people. but would there even be a change? Ayel had survived the attack on Edoras. Of all she had seen, fires, orcs, screams and horror, one thing had remained etched into her visual memory as if she was watching it at the present moment. That image of the dark figures at the marketplace. Had they really been there? What had they been? A sigh escaped her into the chilly ‘fore-noon air. She had been over this in her head so, so, so many times and she was not even certain she had seen anything. Perhaps it was only something she had made up to give the horrors a meaning… or give a meaning to why she was not as shocked as she should have been. Shuddering she pulled her cloak tighter around her. Her family had not been able to afford new long dresses after the ones they had had were destroying in the fire. Instead, Ayel had broken dress code and taken a pair of ripped trousers that had become too small for one of her friends back where she had come from. They were a bit small for her too, but it was alright and kept her warm where her shoes and dress did not reach. A the hilt of a sword sheathed in both sheath and rags stuck up from her backpack which had been a saddlebag before she made some adjustments to it; even her bow was attached to it. In the end, she was quite satisfied with getting as far as Edoras and still be alive. Having no idea where to head, she had decided that heading for Edoras would be the best choice. Perhaps she would find somewhere to earn some living or maybe some party to travel onwards with. Merchants did travel, or so she believed. This was an odd freedom she was not yet used to. Anything was better than being at home, where her mother seemed to never get over how Ayel had complicated her life. She was the whore to share the bed of a traveller, Ayel thought bitterly, shocked over how easy it was for her to take to such harsh words. Another sigh condensed into the air, as the lost woman kept walking along the grassy hills having left the main road already a while ago. These parts of Riddermark she knew, upon these fields of grass, cliff and hill she had grown up after all. Passing another cliff, she jumped up on a rock most likely hurled there so long ago the trees would only know. Standing upon that little rock, she found herself smiling, a little breeze flicking her red hair about. Only a bit more, and then into the valley. Then up onto the hill. She would be there in the late after noon at best. Maybe Edoras was a bit of a home for her, after all. |

Esril had been here for a few weeks, now, creating small residence within the realm of Rohan to help with the clear up of the attack on Edoras. There was still a sense of distrust around the city, not that anyone could blame them, their city had litteraly been burned to the ground. Of course they were going to be distrustful. His mind wandered briefly, as he exited the city once again for that day, of the elf that had been in Gondor during his trial had anything to do with the attacks. It wasa thought that he was negative about, for thw answer was probably yes, expecially since his escape from the great wqhite city. Since then, he had been hiding out, away from the cities and the public eye so that maybe he could slip back in again later and not be noticed or dragged into another issue. He’d gone through enough witch hunts to last a lirtime. Ignoring the cold chill around his form, Esril patted his horse lightly as it began to trot out of the main city. He never slept there, normally spending time outside when his skills weren’t needed, so that he could think and ponder and watch the shadow spread over the lands, a favourite pastime. Faelyn had disappeared from his mind for now, a good sign, or an omen, the ranger was not sure, he was simple thankful for the quiet. He could sit and think straight, which was more than he had been able to do in quite a while. Stopping shortly when he reached the grassy hills, admiring the afternoon sky, Esril let a small smile cross his lips, cities could be rebuilt and they were getting there, one piece at time. That’s all it was, that’s all they needed to do. Stand together, rebuld and defend. Evil would not beat these people, that he was sure of. He noticed, quickly, of one trying to enter Edoras as he left, a young female, inclining his head ever so slightly before returning his gaze to the sky, Esril lightly kicked his horse to move once again. When he was within calling reach, he smiled. “My lady? Are you alright?” She seemed so, she was smiling at least. |

A sudden voice woke her up from her thoughts. She would be a poor warrior - that was certain - if she this easily drifted into her thoughts and let the surroundings surprise her like this. She flicked her head to the side to see over her shoulder, the red hair flicking along before a breeze caught it. Eyes caught sight of a man on a horse, a man who seemed like one who knew what he was doing and seemed to her like a man of confidence… although she saw no bad in it. Ayel leapt for the little rock and landed after a hardly mentionable drop on the grass, caught a tad of embarrassment over her slightly inappropriate clothing but decided to ignore it, instead too a few steps towards the man and his horse and let a small, graceful movement suffice as a bow. “My lord,” she said, before looking up. “How can one not be alright in a place such as this?” Gaze escaped him and adored the landscape, the fields and hills and cliffs about as far as you could see, and where that was not there were mountains. It was a freedom of sorts, something she had only thought about earlier. Now that she really was free and free to attempt to find an end to the endless ocean of sorts around her, it was overwhelming. “No bonds as far as the eye can see…” the woman mused, a distance smile daring onto her lips. Pale eyes then snapped back to him and the smile became apologetic. “I’m sorry my lord. Your concern warms me, I believe most men would just have passed me, perhaps asked their horse to round me.” |

Smiling lightly at the somewhat alert reaction the girl gave him, Esril raised a hand in greeting, the other holding the reigns of his horse. He had already fallen off, painfully so, once on this horse, he was no eager to do it again. She was a strange thing to observe, not at all like the other women, she certainly didn’t dress like it. Ah, another one who was happy to be in the wild? It seemed so, the smile twitched again. “It is indeed beautiful” he agreed, casting his own gaze up to the skies, the clouds and the darkness weren’t as powerful, he noticed, and that gave him cause to relax. “The perfect view” Looking back, watching her as she admired the landscape, Esril patted his horse to stop as he swung himself off it, feet landing on the ground with a soft thud. Keeping his hand on the horse to almost soothe it, the ranger managed a small grin. “I am not like most men, it is…rare for a woman to be out here on her own, but on closer inspection, you seem to be quite at ease, you needn’t be apologetic, you’ve done nothing wrong” |

The landscape drew her attention to itself, the vast freedom and the desaturated-blue sky. Seemed this man understood her fascination too, looking out over the landscape as well. A noise behind her made her catch herself fingers fidgeting on the hem of her dress watching over the landscape. How silly she must look. The redhead turned back to the man, who had dismounted his horse and now spoke to her. Ayel smiled, felt a little blush passing upon her cheeks and she was thankful it did not stay for longer than a few moments. Upon realising he was right – it was rare for a woman to be out on her own like this - she shuffled slightly, glancing at her feet. The third thing she felt a bit embarrassed about. What must he think of her? A lone woman in a short dress and trousers all alone in the wilderness, admiring the landscape. Pale lips parted to speak, but as she realise she was about to start her following sentence with ‘forgive me’ she effectively shut her mouth again to think of another way to express herself. “I... am going to Edoras, my family left it after the attack… now I decided to return but no other seemed to share my desire, my lord,” she explained. “I was hoping to travel smoothly and discretely, which went well until now.” Ayel smiled again, the smile lighting up her face even if much of it did not join the actual smile. “Forgive my curiousity, but you, my lord, seem to be coming from Edoras, am I right?” |
