Master Storyteller of Arda

It is a dream that often revisits.

He can feel the rough texture of bark, the tension in his arms as he pulls back the pebble. He fires. A loud splash echoes. A horse whinnies. Then all of a sudden he’s standing at the edge, seeing the human hand grasping at air—struggling.

He reaches down underneath the waves to pull him up, but he stops just as the tips of his fingers dip into the cool water. His hand goes limp, eyes widening as he freezes.

The action becomes stillborn amidst the rushing water and what was once there.

I find Cellon one of those frightening characters that you both love and loathe. On the surface, he's arrogant in an almost endearing way. He's the kind of cocky that makes you smile. But underneath that is one of the darkest acts anyone can commit: fratricide. Suddenly, he's not funny or endearing anymore.

I think this drabble plays out the same way. It begins almost like a mischevious child, so we smile at the misbehavior. When he realize someone has been hurt, the smile fades. It takes some time before we understand we were smiling at a murder.

Chilling. Both the drabble and the character.
