Staff can be found in the member list. We are listed as “Admin” or “Mod.” Why is this board Account-Per-Player? ZetaBoards has some really wonderful features. Unfortunately, they don’t offer e-mail notification of PMs or replies. The staff found that having character accounts, without e-mail notifications, led to a lot of inactivity and miscommunication. PMs were lost on several occasions, and very often members assumed no one had replied to their topics. With only one account to check, we think that PMs will not get lost as often and tracking threads will be much simpler, especially for members who have many characters. I don't want to be a canon, but I want to be part of the plot. Can I do that? Absolutely! The canons are not the total plot. We need everyone who wants to help! Can I play a canon that's not on the canon character list? Check with a staff member to get prior approval. Our canon list is very extensive, but it’s possible that we overlooked someone. Can I play a character related to a canon? This is a subjective question, so you'll have to contact the Admin to discuss the issue. There might be a storyline for Halbarad's son, and certainly Hobbits have many relations. There is a very good reason, however, that someone cannot be Elrond's other daughter. How do I claim an adoptable? It’s likely, but not guaranteed, that the Admin would recognize this while reading your application. Just to be sure, somewhere in your application, or in a PM with the Admin, make a note that your character comes from the Adoptables list. By the way, adoptables do not need to provide RP samples in the application. The writing in the character’s personality and history will be sufficient to judge quality. Canon RP samples are to judge perspective, which is open to interpretation for adoptables. Can I make changes to the adoptables? While writing these brief descriptions, the Admin tried to be as general as possible to give the handler creative freedom. If you have a change in mind, contact the Admin prior to writing your application. The possibility of a change is up for discussion, but not guaranteed, so make your case in the message. How do I find out more about canon and what life might have been like in Middle-earth? The best advice I can give is to do a bit of reading. Library of Arda is full of resources. You can also post questions or request a specific article in the Questions Box forum. *How are the books and movies both* canon when they contradict in some places? It’s true that sometimes the movies do not follow the storyline of the book. However, the canon foundations of the movies are the same as the book. We mix the two versions here. For example, Aragorn’s horse can be called Brego or Roheryn; Eowyn can have gone to Helm’s Deep or stayed in Edoras; Sam can have received from Galadriel Elven rope or a box of earth and seed. These details do not change the overall story or the basic facts about Middle-earth. Which books do you consider canon?** I believe that everything Tolkien (J.R.R. and Christopher) wrote can be considered canon. However, I encourage creative license with anything outside of Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit, and The Silmarillion. I’ve found something on the board that isn’t canon. Please, let me know what it is! Lord of the Rings is such a huge fandom. Even though I’ve done a lot of reading, I can’t possibly know everything after being a fan for only five years. I won’t take offense if it’s pointed out to me. I would actually be very grateful to know about it. Do Balrogs have wings? Yes … But go ahead and start a thread somewhere to contradict me.
