Rules of the Forum Canon This RPG is based on JRR Tolkien’s book and Peter Jackson’s movie canon. Sometimes the two versions of the story conflict. In those cases, we’ll follow either version and consider it canon. In addition to writing facts correctly, we also write in the spirit of canon. The intention of Tolkien and Jackson are equally as important as the stories told. We believe that realism goes hand-in-hand with canon; therefore, we try to write a relatively accurate version of a Medieval setting. Because of the canon in our game, you should read all the topics in the Library of Arda before joining or creating a character. It may look like a lot of reading, but it shouldn’t take too long. The information has been broken down into smaller topics to make it easier to understand. If something isn’t clear or covered, the staff will be more than happy to answer any questions. Joining This board is APP (Account Per Player). Register with a screen name not a character name. Before you run away screaming about wanting to have Account Per Character, please take a minute to read this enlightening document. After you register, your account will be a New User. To become a Member, you’ll need to post an Introduction topic. Why? Two reasons. Firstly, it’s a good way to make sure you’re a real person. Secondly, the staff would like this board to be built around the community, and we all need to know each other for that to happen. Once you’ve introduced yourself, you’ll be able to post character applications. Rating This board is 15+/PG-15. If you are unsure about the rating of a post or thread, contact a staff member for review or follow this general rule of thumb: “when in doubt, leave it out.” We have a password-protected Mature forum for anything rated higher. If you decide to post Mature content, please keep it dignified. Characters There is no limit on the number of characters you can play. You can create your first two characters back-to-back, but each additional character should have a minimum of 5-10 posts made before another is created. You should have some diversity in your characters. Specifically, we would like to see a few different species. It’s true that the Fourth Age belongs to Men, but there are still Elves, Dwarves, Hobbits, Ents, Orcs, and other Creatures around. We’d like to include all of Middle-earth in our plot, and it’s really hard to do that if we have twice as many humans as all other species combined. Posting Please abide by the generally accepted role-playing rules covered in this article. They’re the basics that stay the same across most RPGs. If you like using the languages of Middle-earth in your posts, please also provide an English translation so everyone can understand what your character said. We’re not so worried about the accuracy of your Middle-earth languages, so don’t fret over making a perfect translation. We’re not fond of ooc notes, so use them sparingly for things like translations, credits, and anything directly related to your post. Plotting and other discussions can be done in other forums or through the PM system. Default font size and color were selected because they are readable. Please do not change the defaults. If the normal-size text bothers you too much, you can use your browser to zoom out and make it smaller. Small text is allowed for signatures and ooc notes. Activity Each member is expected to post with each character at least once per month. Activity checks will be announced periodically. Any characters found inactive (not posting in character) will be removed from play, and their positions will be opened for new characters to fill. Member accounts are not deleted. They are Retired at the member’s request or go Missing. Either way, if you miss an Activity Check, your account and original characters will always be waiting for you when you come back. Canon and adoptable characters are removed from inactive accounts and put up for adoption. You can claim them again if you get prior permission from an Admin. Credits It is expected that anything you borrow, use, or adapt will be credited to its original creator. This includes not only graphics, but song lyrics, quotations, and other intellectual property. (heatherbee. is a librarian; copyright is important to her). Graphics Avatar dimensions are up to 150x150. Uploaded avatars can be up to 35KB. Please do not stretch the board with signature width. A good size to aim for is 500px or less. Your signature can be as tall as you like. There is a code installed that will make any signature over 200px tall scroll. Warnings Generally, infractions are handled on a case-by-case basis because the staff doesn’t think there’s any need to get strict about small mistakes. There is also no need to subject the entire board to megalomaniacs and chronic rule breakers, so we will give official warnings, suspend, and ban when those actions are required. Updates These Rules are subject to revision. Changes will be announced in the Notice Board.
