In the Mid-Atlantic an underwater city prospers unknown to the world minus a handful of people. It was about 11:50 and in a strip club by the name of Eve's Garden a young woman pushes past the hooting men as they ogle a woman twirling around a metal pole. She pulls her warm fur coat around her shoulders to protect her from wandering eyes. She was on break and was yearning for something to take her mind off old memories. She walks to the bar off to the side of the club, near the downstairs entrance. She sits down on a stool and orders a shot of whiskey. She stares into the golden-brown liquid then quickly downs it. She props her head up on the counter and stares at the many bottles of colored liquids.

She looks at her watch. 11:56. She had another thirty-four minutes of staying in the club.Hopefully she wouldn't have to get back up on stage for the rest of the night unless one of the girls was payed to go in the back with a client. The bartender gives her another shot which she downs as soon as he turns. She began to play with the soft black rabbit fur of her coat. She could hear the men cheer as the woman on stage took off her top.

Benjamin Casteel shoved the heavy swinging door open with a shiny black leather shoe and entered Eve’s Garden as he would any joint in Fort Frolic--with a girl slung on each arm and a heavy buzz. Whispering something to the twins, blond bombshells with high heels and low IQs, he sent them into a trill of laughter.

While the twins went to freshen up, Casteel slid into a booth in the corner and looked around the place. It was a crowded night for a weekday and he liked it that way. Sure getting a drink was a little harder, but getting laid was a lot easier.

He started to raise an arm to flag down the waitress, but suddenly caught a glimpse of Lillian standing behind the bar. That was his favorite gal. Well, at Eve’s Garden anyway.

Casteel made his way to the bar, but Lillian was busy with three other customers. Deciding to wait, he made his way toward the opposite end of the bar and next to a young girl in a fur coat. Propping himself against the bar, he lit an Oxford Club cigarette and gave the dame a once-over.

“I haven't seen you around here before,” he said before taking a drag.

Rose hadn't seemed to notice the man who had just tried to make a conversation with her. She quietly bit her lip as she thought, a bad habit of hers. She often chewed the soft flesh on her lip biting little strips of skin off, usually on accident. Her red eyes were fixed on the amber liquid that was still lingering in her glass. Her fingers tap lightly against the glass.

When she finally notices him her eyes shift to see him. She studied him for a moment, eying him curiously. He looked like most of the men who ventured to Eve's Garden. Messy. Unkept. Stressed. Her eyes trail up to his face before her pink lips open.

"You most likely were to drunk to notice me. I prefer to stay out of the way." Her voice was soft and smooth. Her lips curled into a smile, but only for a moment before disappearing.

Casteel wasn’t like the rest of the men who frequented Eve’s Garden. Even from across the room anyone could tell just how meticulously he dressed. His suit was custom made and exquisitely tailored. Even the handkerchief in his left breast pocket was embroidered with his initials, B. T. C. But there was more to it than that.

Benjamin Casteel had a certain attitude about him. He was confident almost to the point of arrogance, but somehow people seemed to like him for it. They were attracted to him even. Almost like flies to neon.

Exhaling a long wisp of smoke, Casteel stared at this woman curiously. Sure. She was probably right about the drunk part--hell he spent the last of '57 with his head in a toilet-- but he remembered faces. He had to. One didn’t become the owner of a restaurant as prestigious as the Kashmir without a lot of schmoozing. Or if people just called it by its real name, ass-kissing. And besides. How could anyone forget staring into those strange, red eyes?

He took another long drag from the Oxford Club and watched with interest as her lips curved into a slight smile. There was no emotion behind it. Well, maybe a little irritation, but definitely not amusment.

“So what are you?" he asked noting the empty glases in front of her. "A barmaid?”

She studied him with her deep red pools stare right back at his own. They had a strange sort of sadness in them. The kind that could not be expressed by words. She stares at him curiously for a moment longer then turns back to her glass.

Rose tried her best to keep her personal life a secret from most people, which she was very good at since she never talked to people long enough to get around to trusting them. She had never really noticed just how lonely her life had truly been till recently. Her life on the surface and life in Rapture were seemingly identical in the fact that she had no one to talk to in the world. Utterly alone.

She picks the glass up and stares at it for a moment. She takes a sip then lays the glass back down. She turns to look at him once more. "... No, I'm one of the showgirls." She says faking a smile.

Casteel saw right through the fake smile and empty glasses. Everything about her screamed she would rather be anywhere but here. This is why he figured she was a barmaid or waitress.

A dancer, he thought with some amusement, funny. He had her pegged for the wallflower type. For a dancer at Eve's Garden, she seemed shy. Maybe she was just new to this sort of thing.

"I haven't seen you perform before," he said with the cigarette still in his mouth. "Are you any good?"

In the brief pause before the dancer could answer, Casteel tossed a quick look down the bar toward Lillian and flashed her that famous Benjamin Casteel grin. It was smug in everyway, arrogant even, but utterly irresistable. It was a smile filled with hidden meaning and suggestive innuendo. He raised one eyebrow and winked playfully before turning an ear back toward the dancer.

She stares at him for a long time then turns and looks forward. "... It depends on who you ask." She says as she takes another sip from her glass. She rubs her shoulder a bit to get a knot out then leans back a bit in her stool.

She turns towards him once more. Her body language had changed in less than a second. Her eyes had a hint of curiosity in them, her soft pink lips curl into a smirk. He could see that her attention was now on him.

"I usually stay in the back for... well paying customers." She says as she stares at him. "I'm on stage every Wednesday and Friday, between 10 and closeing."

Casteel frowned slightly. Sure. There were prostitutes in Rapture. No matter where you went people would always be willing to pay for that service. But in Eve's Garden? He hadn't thought they did that sort of entertaining here. Singing, sure. Dancing, of course. While leaving nothing to the imagination? Why he expected nothing less. But prostitution?

This was a gentleman's club. And a classy one too. He expected that sort of thing from the Seahorse, maybe, but not Eve's Garden. Casteel resisted the urge to ask the girl if she realy worked here and instead let his eyes float back toward Lillian. Still with customers.

Finally removing the Oxford Club from his mouth, he snuffed it out in one of the many glass ashtrays lining the bar. His mind was still stuck on the customers in the back line as he watched the twins return from the ladies room. Maybe he was just unaware because he never had to pay for that type of thing.

"Well," he began as he motioned for the twins to head for the corner booth, "I'll have to catch your show sometime. But right now I need to order these ladies a drink."

She stares at him then looks at the two girls. "... Don't lie." She says a little low then turns and looks forward. She seemed a bit irritated but didn't say anything more to him for a while. She was thinking hard about something now.

Her eyes narrow a bit. "... I need to get outta here..." She mutters to herself more than anything. She looks back at him after a few moments. "... Have a good night. It seems... my shift is over." She mutters before standing up.

"To a pretty girl like you?" Casteel asked with a smile. "Wouldn't think of it."

He watched her for a moment as she sat in silence. Strange kid. He made a mental note--as much good as it would do--to catch her show sometime.

"I don't believe I caught your name Miss...?"
