Swimming her fork around in the bowl of noodles, Elizabeth thoughtfully smiled back. "Things are complicated." The young lady then stopped and gave pause. Her crystal blue eyes pooled open, "Life is complicated." Elizabeth recalled in her own head how simple things had been on the surface. Her family, her friends, her job...her life. She felt that coming down here would help take away from the complexities that began to plague her life after her parents death. However then there was Andrew Ryan. Elizabeth was certain that he was becoming a sure sign that things down here weren't so different after all - even six miles under the ocean. And how - how did she get caught up in all this mess? She thought for a moment, and looked backed up at Charlie. "I agree. These are the moments that are impossible to turn down. Opportunity. Everyone wants to be something. But we must be careful in our expectations of what life down here will bring us. For nothing is fixed, forever and forever and forever, it is not fixed; the earth is always shifting, the light is always changing, the sea does not cease to grind down rock. Generations do not cease to be born, and we are responsible to them because we are the only witnesses they have. The sea rises, the light fails, lovers cling to each other, and children cling to us. The moment we cease to hold each other, the sea engulfs us and the light goes out." |

Sweat ran down his face and his heart thundered in his ears. Shadow bolted for the "Happy Noodle", ignoring the line. He broke into a brisk stride as he neared the entrance, risking a quick glance back. None of his pursuers were in sight. He turned back and his eyes darted for somewhere to sit. He spotted a table, a young girl and a scientist sitting at it and pulled up a chair. "Hello... my name's..." He looked at their faces and stopped. "It's not important actually..." Once again he searched for Fontaine's thugs before pulling out a small device. Fiddling with some controls he finally breathed a sigh of relief. Putting the screen away he began to relax and called for a waiter's attention. "I've got money on me if that's important, tell you what I'll pay for the meal for the nuisance I caused." He pulled out a pipe and lit it. He flashed a smile to the two diners. "Whatever you do, don't cause a fuss." That would be the last thing he needed tonight. Fontaine AND Ryan were looking for him and both had agents all over Rapture, particularly those... those splicers running around, or jumping or crawling around. They were becoming so much more common. What could push someone to that? Then again, he knew the answer from experience only he had Rapture's automated security on his side. When the damned stuff wasn't being hacked that is. Of course, he could hardly complain seeing as in the last six months the only money he had made was stuff lying around and what he got from hacking the vending machines, but it as very lucrative, for someone who didn't stay in one public place for more than 2 hours at a time when he was sober. He still had a few good hiding places and many more tricks up his sleeve for when he needed a rest which felt like all the time these days. Edited by . Shadow Johnson, Sep 26 2008, 05:08 PM.

While most of the customers in the busy restaurant either paid no mind to Shadow Johnson, or just dismissed him as a crazy person - this could not be said for everyone. For unbeknownst to Shadow, he had just caught the eye of one of the most high-ranking followers in Frank Fontaine's inner circle. Elizabeth dropped her fork when Shadow popped up to the table. Moving slowly, she slid her hand into her right front pants pocket and gripped the retracted knife inside. Looking towards the window, she noticed Delta was now barking and growling for the first time since she entered the "Happy Noodle". As Johnson got comfortable in his chair, Elizabeth pulled her hands back onto the table and returned to her conversation with Charlie...and her lunch. But not before she flashed Johnson a smile. This smile however, wasn't the same friendly smile she had been trading off with Charlie all afternoon. Elizabeth's eyes squinted, releasing a bursting blue color from them like a solar eclipse. The sides of her soft lips curled upwards. And for a split second, little Elizabeth Channing who spent her summers helping her dad paint the tool shed and her neighbors sell Girl Scout Cookies, had the devil in her eyes. Even if Shadow knew who she was, Elizabeth felt confident it would only be a matter of time before Fontaine suggested that she pay Shadow a little visit with some friends. As Charlie began conversing again, she too reclined back as another smile crept across her button face. "Wait till Peachy hears about this..." |

He recongnised her. In fact, the only reason he had come here was to find her. Whilst killing both Ryan and Fontaine was out of his reach if he could kill Fontaine's lieutenants then that could help as well. Of course he knew something would happen to stop him. It always did. Neither of them would risk open confrontation in here though. He wouldn't because Ryan would lock down the whole area and be done with him once and for all. She wouldn't because no doubt she knew he would set the security on her. The Happy Noodle was the safest place in Rapture for Shadow to meet this girl. And that's all he could hope to do, he could only try and interrogate her. Naturally even this couldn't happen thanks to the botanist sat opposite her. He now leaned over the table. No longer was he that man who was sitting there apologetically but once again teetering on the edge of paranoia. If she got out that seat she could call for backup and get him killed. Why had he risked coming here? Automated security was minimal out here and the amount of guards was high. He was gambling with low odds and high stakes. But he had seen something in Elizabeth, that slightest glimmer of hope. |

"Yeah, Soloman. What are you gonna do about it?" Arthur tossed the man a sly grin and rubbed his hands across the tops of his thighs, back and forth, excited at the prospect that he was only minutes away from his usual meal of spicy noodles. He figured Jase didn't have time to talk now, but wanted to ask at some point soon if they could go get a drink together at some point. Arthur always tipped him at the restaurant, but he figured he owed the man a drink for how much he came into the establishment and annoyed him. "I'll take the usual. Of course." The smile he wore got even wider, even though his voice was quiet and a tad raspy. |

She smiled at the banter. That was the sort of thing she missed most while in this place. She hadn't made many friends since her decent to Rapture. Meeting people never really was her sort of thing. A bit ironic considering she was a receptionist after all. "The usual, hm? You must come here a lot." Evie looked over the menu.. She couldn't remember the last time she'd been out to dinner. Everything sounded so wonderful and it was very difficult to decide. "And I'll have the number four, please." |

He listened to Elizabeth with the utmost attention. Everything she was saying absolutely fascinated him. It wasn't so much what she said, but instead the conviction behind it. This girl had gumption. Lots of it. And Charlie found that alluring. "It's an interesting concept," he said, placing the fork back on the plate. "We have much more impact on each other's lives than people understand. The smallest interaction between two people--two strangers even--can alter the course of the rest of our lives. Without that bond between people, without that hope, it's not-" He stopped talking, glaring at the odd looking man that joined their table completely uninvited. The exchange between Lizzy and this guy had not gone unnoticed. He wandered what she could possibly be doing getting mixed up with a guy like that under any circumstances. "An old friend of yours?" he asked, glancing her direction. |

Jase took the woman's menu and smiled at them both. "I'll put the orders in right away." He noted what she had said to Arthur and nodded quickly agreeing with what she asked about. "He comes here all the time." Turning around, Jase moved back to the doors leading to the kitchens and vanished through them momentarily, placing their order. After a few moments he emerged, his eyes scanning the tables he was assigned to. Once he felt that everyone at his tables was content, he shifted back to the counter and stood across from them again. "What's wrong with your voice, Bandt?" |

"Not exactly" slipped Elizabeth; her eyes now gathered on Charlie. "Mr. Shadow is in no doubt in an interesting line of work. But that interest is a curse." Elizabeth was quickly blossoming each word before pushing forth into the air. Her artful machination was rousing Shadow into a cat-and-mouse game. With her eyes acquiring back into Shadow's, she waited to see if he would come aboard... |

Shadow couldn't ask her any of what he wanted to know with the young man who was sitting there present. However he could act normal, endear himself to Elizabeth perhaps, or at the very least got some idea of what drove her to where she was now. She probably didn't realize it but he remembered talking to her on the bathysphere down to Rapture. She had that same optimistic glow in her eyes as all the others, she had been such a sweet girl. Why did she now do the things she did? |
