A few references are made to a Council in the audio diaries. Ryan calls a meeting of it to discuss Fontaine. This is open to anyone who would feasibly sit on the council or show up as a representative of someone who would. To: B. Tenenbaum, B. McDonough, J.S. Steinman, J. Langford, S. Cohen, Security Director Sullivan, G. Orinthal, Etc. From: Andrew Ryan RAPTURE COUNCIL MEETING RE: Fontaine Futuristics Andrew Ryan toyed with his fountain pen, alone for now in the empty room with its large table surrounded on all sides by chairs. He was beginning to feel a bit of sympathy for the table. It was in the middle of the room, the constant fixture. It held everything up so that it did not all to the floor in a disjointed pile and break into small pieces. The chairs challenged it. They said that if you lined them all up correctly they could do the work of the table, things could be stacked in them and kept in a more organized fashion that way until someone needed to sit down. The great chain had always pulled the citizens of Rapture and now... now... now there were these plasmids. He could not blame the people of Rapture for wanting them. Who did not want to be younger, to shoot fire from their fingertips, to sends swarms of stinging insects chasing after someone who annoyed them? The fulfilled childhood dreams of fantasies, dreams of magic and godlike power held deep and precious in the human imagination. He was not jealous of Fontaine. He reminded himself of this. He could not be jealous of Fontaine's business success. People wanted Adam, they wanted Plasmids. Fontaine had both so Fontaine turned a profit. The wheels turned. Ryan scratched a sea slug on the corner of his notepad. They were hideous things. What worried him were the suspicions of Fontaine's involvement in the smuggling ring that threatened Rapture. There were reports that he was setting up homes for the poor, building orphanages. He was feeding the parasites. He was undermining the ideals of Rapture. Was his own grip on the great chain slipping? He had always felt it there, firmly grasped in his fists, heavy links of iron pulled taught and tense as his city lived and breathed. Now his city was shooting lightning, injecting itself with slug cells... and Fontaine. McDonough did not trust Fontaine but Mc Donough was a builder, a simple man at heart. He business was to build, not to think. Sullivan, however, he was convinced. Fontaine had been a member of the mafia on the surface, he said, this was a distinct possibility. He was doing /something/ down in Neptune's Bounty, something that warranted more attention than it had been given. Edited by . Andrew Ryan, Apr 8 2008, 01:59 PM.

Semi-predictably, the first person to arrive was Gregory Orinthal, although he suspected that Ryan had rather hoped he would be late. A fat chance of that happening. Gregory had pushed for this meeting, and he would neither miss a moment of the talk, nor squander an opportunity to get a few more words in Ryan's ear before the fracas properly began. His smile then was both more nebish than he was, and more aggressive than he felt, considering the rather... tedious nature of what he had to say. "Good afternoon, Mr. Ryan," He began, "I'm glad-- very glad, you called this meeting here, now." Finally. |

Strolling into the meeting chamber in a plain jumpsuit and a notepad under an arm, Tenenbaum stripped off the gloves she was wearing and shoved them into one of the many pockets on her garment. It took a couple tries before she found one that wasn't full, but once they were safely stowed she pulled a chair out and sat herself down in it, setting the notepad on the table in front of her. "Afternoon, gentlemen." She said this quietly and almost absently, as if she didn't want to disturb anything. |

Steinman was the next to arrive. This Fontaine business, plasmids...Adam. Of course it intrigued him. As a person he was naturally fascinated by the idea of this new area in the market. To think, here, under the ocean they had discovered what could almost be described as, well...magic. Of course, that was hardly a term he liked to use for it, but nontheless. Additionally, as a surgeon he was also drawn to this new discovery. After all, Adam could very well revolutionise the entire area of his profession. A surgeon worked to perfect the human body - what potential something like Adam had in progressing that! He could barely contain excitement at the idea. Fontaine was apparently an issue...but Steinman was far more focused the idea of Adam. He took his seat at the table. |

She was not very happy about this meeting. Of course she'd heard the rumors about Fontaine's latest actions and potential smugglings, but what was she going to do about it? She practically never left the research center these days, much less Arcadia. With the potential for some sort of epidemic sweeping through the tree farm and wiping out the saplings, she had better things to do. When Bannerman had reminded her about the meeting--she thanked her lucky stars for that intern daily-Langford had been practically knee-deep in mud. Hardly having time to run home and shower, she merely threw on a labcoat and cleaner shoes. To her embarassment, the clothes beneath the coat were still quite muddy. As she crossed the threshold in the meeting room, she released a breath she didn't know she was holding. With a nod of greeting to Mr. Ryan, his security officer--his name always managed to escape her--and Dr. Steinman, she settled herself into a seat next to Dr. Tenenbaum. |

Tenenbaum noticed the mud right away on Langford's clothes. But she could only smile a bit. Bridgette Tenenbaum had done the same thing many times. Maybe not with mud... But she knew that Langford cared for her plants and her experiments just as much as Tenenbaum cared about her own science. That was their big link there, their subject of many of their conversations. She turned in her seat and eyed Julie with a hint of amusement. "Another normal day in Arcadia, I see." Idle chit-chat while waiting for a meeting to start never hurt anyone. |

Langford could only smile. Out of all the people in this room, she knew Tenenbaum would understand. That was one of the few things they had in common--a passion for science, especially they're respective fields. "Yes. Unfortunately time slipped away from me and, well, you see the result." |

((I think Ryan and Orinthal's players never come around anymore -- so we can close this thread and start something new, or try to work around it. What does everyone thing?)) |
