Tying Delta to the railing of the walkway outside "The Happy Noodle", Elizabeth scratched behind his ears. He licked his owner's beautiful face before she began to push him away. "I'll be back soon. Hang in there, chief." She said, rising to her feet and stepping inside. "The Happy Noodle" was extremely busy, but what did she expect? It was around noon and a lot of workers were on their lunch break. All the hustle and bussle reminded her of the Fisheries. This thought didn't settle well...after all today was her day off. She sunk down into a booth, and let out a heavy sigh. Looking around at all the waiters and waitresses scattering about from table to table made her wonder if she'd ever get served. The day's copy of The Rapture Standard sat on the table. "Someone must have forgotten it." Elizabeth assumed. She glanced over at the date, November 20th. "As good a date as any other." Elizabeth thought to herself. Glancing through the paper she didn't see any articles worth reading. She missed the Archie Comics. The Rapture Standard wouldn't publish them. They wouldn't publish anything from the surface. Folding the paper back up, she grazed it with the tips of the fingers on her right hand and slid it back over to the corner amongst the salt and pepper shakers. "Bah! Maybe they took one look at it and left it here on purpose." She figured. Looking out the window she saw two children - a boy and a girl. Very young - couldn't be more than eight years old. They were playing hopscotch, but stopped when they saw Delta tied to the railing. Walking over, the little boy emptied out his pockets. Inside was a crumbled of bag of potato chips. Unfolding it, the boy began to feed some of the chips to Delta. The little girl walked over and joined them. "Christ," sighed Elizabeth, "He's getting served before I am." |
