2 charged with plotting to kill Saudi ambassador Saudi, Israeli embassies were also targeted, U.S. says in court documents October 11, 2011 http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/44861178/ns/us_news-security/ WASHINGTON — Two men originally from Iran have been charged with plotting to assassinate the Saudi ambassador in Washington and to attack the Saudi and Israeli embassies, according to court documents filed by the Justice Department. Attorney General Eric Holder was to discuss the charges at a press conference Tuesday at 2 p.m. ET. The criminal complaint, unsealed in federal court in New York City, identified the two alleged plotters as Manssor Arbabsiar and Gholam Shakuri. Both are originally from Iran and Arbabsiar is a naturalized U.S. citizen, the complaint said. Saudi Arabia's ambassador is Adel Al-Jubeir, who has served in that post since 2007. The indictment is the result of a sting operation conducted by the FBI, sources tell NBC News. The case started when one of the suspects, who lived in Texas, made contact with an undercover DEA informant and asked for assistance from the Zetas drug cartel in Mexico to assassinate the ambassador, the sources said. |

The “very scary” Iranian Terror plot By Glenn Greenwald The most difficult challenge in writing about the Iranian Terror Plot unveiled yesterday is to take it seriously enough to analyze it. Iranian Muslims in the Quds Force sending marauding bands of Mexican drug cartel assassins onto sacred American soil to commit Terrorism — against Saudi Arabia and possibly Israel — is what Bill Kristol and John Bolton would feverishly dream up while dropping acid and madly cackling at the possibility that they could get someone to believe it. But since the U.S. Government rolled out its Most Serious Officials with Very Serious Faces to make these accusations, many people (therefore) do believe it; after all, U.S. government accusations = Truth. All Serious people know that. And in the ensuing reaction one finds virtually every dynamic typically shaping discussions of Terrorism and U.S. foreign policy. Ex-CIA warns US 'dangerously wrong' on Iran Updated October 12, 2011 14:18:00 The former intelligence analyst, Robert Baer, joins The World Today and warns the Obama adminstration to step back from blaming Iran for the foiled assasination plot against the Saudi ambassador in Washington. The former CIA case agent says the attack doesn't appear to have been planned by Iran, and that the US may have got its assessment dangerously wrong. He says the US must open a direct diplomatic channel with the Iranian regime .. or risk igniting an uncontrollable war.
