Beaker Sinks - “...i tried to be nice... i'd like to be inclusive and nice to him and make him feel welcome and part of the group... i'll try plenty of times, i'm nice... you can feel free to have a go at my honest answers to your questions some more if you want, its all good... you're not a nazi...i don't hate you...” You’re trying to be nice? Quite a change from your previous comments about me...don’t you think? “...marcus icke's research shows him to be either stupid or disinfo...marcus icke blows... did you come here to blindly ignore everyone else and just advertise your rubbish warez... the lying and soulless icke, i'm afraid you're a gutter rat, noseout, living in the sick of icke's kind... on a more personal note, he's either deranged or paid to be here... yet you keep coming back with the same tripe, icke... you must be insane i guess...” Why the sudden change of heart? |

Beaker Stinks - “...an engineer and a physicist can be so many worlds apart that it leads me to think you consider all engineers to be mechanical engineers. you can be an engineer of electronics (and many other fields) and not know a thing about physics...” When I did the A-level in physics we had a lot of work sorting out electricity flow around circuits in terms of calculating volts, amps and ohms etc across certain devices. I’d say that the study of electricity forms a significant part of what I would call “physics”. If it weren’t, then why was I studying it on my physics A-level? I suppose it would depend on what syllabus you did. Perhaps yours was different from mine and excluded electricity. In my opinion an “electronic engineer” would have to have a firm grounding in physics, at least based on my experience of the U.K. education system. What is an engineer anyway? Wikipedia – “An engineer is a professional practitioner of engineering, concerned with applying scientific knowledge, mathematics and ingenuity to develop solutions for technical problems. Engineers design materials, structures, machines, and systems, while considering the limitations imposed by practicality, safety, and cost... Engineers are grounded in applied sciences and are distinguished from scientists, whose focus is most often research[4], and artists, who create with a focus on aesthetics.” http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Engineer Lots of science in there then. But what is science? Wikipedia – “Science (from Latin: scientia, meaning "knowledge") is a systematic enterprise of gathering knowledge about nature and organizing and condensing that knowledge into testable laws and theories.” http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Science What about “applied science”? Wikipedia – “Applied science is the application of scientific knowledge transferred into a physical environment... Fields of engineering are closely related to applied sciences...” http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Applied_sciences So engineers work with applied sciences. What are applied sciences? ...biology, chemistry and earth sciences and... physics! Here’s a list for the types of physics that, by definition, would be involved in engineering: • Acoustics • Astrodynamics • Astronomy • Astrophysics • Biophysics • Classical mechanics • Computational physics • Condensed matter physics • Cryogenics • Dynamics • Fluid dynamics • High Energy Physics • Materials physics • Mechanics • Nuclear physics • Optics • Particle physics • Plasma physics • Polymer physics • Quantum mechanics • Solid State physics • Thermodynamics i.e Engineer = Applied Science = Physics. I have two acquaintances who have engineering qualifications above A-level standard. They both agree that physics plays a large part in engineering, though one advised that a structural engineer would be the person to speak to regarding plane crash physics. I appreciate that all this is a bit “armchair-ish”, but do you see my point? Next you’ll be telling me that there’s no maths in engineering or that a botanist knows nothing about chemistry. |

out of pity. i thought you might not have anywhere else to go, and if you get lonely you might get depressed, so i thought i'd try to be nice to you. now you're convincing yourself that an engineer in literally anything must be an authority in the physics involved in high-speed crashes. not much i can do for you i guess. |
