Jeff, Question asked: 2. Carmen said (in 2nd phone call) HE was the one who said, "You have THE PICTURE!" When people in Battery Park were asking "what happened?" i volunteered that i had a picture of the second plane and turned on the camera playback for everyone to see. Folks gathered around, commenting on the size of the plane. Over and over again i heard such exclamations as "oh, my God, there were hundreds of people on that plane." It was nearly unbelievable to those of us in Battery Park, and in a pre-9/11 mindset, i thought no one at home would believe what had happened. I absolutely had no concept of the whole world watching these events live on TV, and felt like i needed to send pictures back to my hometown TV station so they would know about this. (I hate to admit it, but one of the first things I asked the person who answered the phone at the TV station was if he knew what was happening in NYC.) i asked those around me if anyone had a computer, a cell phone, an office, something which i could use to send these pictures home, and a stranger offered to help. Here is an excerpt from an e-mail in which Doug recall's our meeting: "Behind me, a tourist from Arkansas had been photographing the towers with her digital camera...She was sharing them with other witnesses nearby. When I saw the incredible pictures on the camera's LCD display, I knew they were newsworthy...So i suggested that she come back to my office and email them from there." As we stood there, Doug actually said, "You have THE picture." i believe he meant the same thing that was later used to describe my image "as pinpointing one of those moments in which history splits, and we define the world as "before" and "after." Ya'll take good care, Carmen
