On November 21st, 2006, New York City was devastated by an attack from Magneto. All bridges and tunnels to the island of Manhattan were destroyed. In the waters midway between the rest of New York and the island, a massive energy forcefield was erected which resisted any and all attempts to breach and regain contact with Manhattan. Magneto and his Brotherhood declared the borough to be the new Mutant Safeland, and renamed it 'Avalon'.

All the humans who survived the initial attack and take-over were given 3 days to prepare themselves to leave their homes. On the third day, every single human in what was Manhattan was forcibly expelled from Avalon via a series of teleportations.

The X-Men attempted to mount an operation against Magneto, but no power, mutant or science based, was capable of penetrating Avalon's forcefield. The technology was unlike any they had ever seen, any save their founder. Professor Xavier knew the technology that his old friend had appropriated to shield his new city. It was the technology of the Shi'ar Empire.

Charles didn't know why the Shi'ar would aid the X-Men's oldest foe. Nor did he know if it was actually aid or if the shield and other technology that Magneto subsequently demonstrated were simply salvaged by the man against their wishes or knowledge. All his attempts to contact them were met with silence.

In desperation to learn the truth and find a weakness in the shield that kept Avalon/Manhattan cut off from the world, a team of X-Men appropriated an alien ship from the organization known as SHIELD. They were to use the ship to go straight to the Shi'ar homeworld for answers. However, Shi'ar space is only reachable through a series of jumpgates. After the first deposited them years of normal travel from their home, yet still years of travel from Shi'ar space, all of the gates were destroyed, stranding the X-Men years from both their home and their destination. They continued on, in the hope of finding a working gate.

Meanwhile, those who were left behind at the Xavier Institute attempted to find another way through Magneto's field, unaware that their comrades' trip had just been substantially lengthened. However, they soon found themselves attacked by vicious anti-mutant rioters that didn't make a distinction between Magneto's terrorists on one hand and peaceful school children on the other. The mansion took great damage and more than a few students were injured. The Institute was still reeling from the riot when SHIELD acted against them under the assumption that the appropriation of the alien ship was an act of terrorism against the United States in collusion with Magneto to take away the government's only opportunity to understand the technology Magneto was using. The mansion and its assets were seized, and the mutants there were either imprisoned or escaped. Within days, laws were passed requiring mutants to register and be biometriallcy chipped or face imprisonment. Three such specially designed mutant prisons were erected across the nation, to hold not only those who refused registration but any convicted mutant criminal. These facilities filled up quickly since, since due to anti mutant sentiments, whenever a crime occurred, the 'mutant file would be the first most police began turning to. Most mutants were then imprisoned quickly, with barely the mockery of a trial. However, some states, mostly in the south west, were appalled by the mistreatment of mutants, regardless of Magneto's actions, and refused to accept the new laws, offering safe haven to mutants within their borders.

The nation was split. Those nearest the newly formed 'Avalon' were the most for the anti-mutant legislation. Those far removed and with a history of acceptance, most notably California and Nevada, were the most opposed. Most in the midwest fell somewhere in between, some willing to accept the laws while others were not, but none with such open acceptance or utter rejection as the North East or South Western states. The X-Men relocated to San Francisco, with California the friendliest of the 'open states'. But defiance to the law cannot be accepted, and each state was forced to choose a side as the second civil war began.

Two Years Passed.

The X-Men in space have just arrived on the edge of the Shi'ar Empire, and are about to find out the truth. But their allies in this alien civilization are very few, and they are completely cut off from their home. Meanwhile, those on Earth face an ever daunting task of doing everything they can to protect the innocent in a nation divided by civil war. Between the war itself, the anti-mutant attacks both in and out of friendly states, and the mutant terrorists who attack both innocent and guilty, the X-Men here have their own hands full.

You may choose to play one of the Earth-Based X-Men, in which case you may play either an Original Character or an unused Canon Character. Or you may choose to play one of the twelve Space-Based X-Men, in which case you may play one of six Canon X-Men (if there are any currently unplayed) or you may make an Original Character to fill one of six 'slots' if any remain unfilled. You may also fill an unused slot with any canon character that has not already been established as being on Earth. But as there is no way for any original character to simply 'show up' in Shi'ar space, once those six OC slots are taken, they are gone forever. If someone creates an OC and that player subsequently leaves, their character will be open for someone else to 'take up'.

The list of X-Men in space is as follows:

Cyclops - Pilot - Leader - Taken
Rogue - Muscle - Taken
Beast - Pilot - Doctor - Tech - Available
Multiple Man - Pilot - Various Ship Functions - Available
Emma Frost - Telepath - Diplomacy - Taken
Shadowcat - Tech - Diplomacy - Available

OC/Canon list is as follows:

Chamber - Various Ship Functions - Survivability in Space
Acid - Navigation - Poison Control
Network - Communications - Computers

When creating an OC, or choosing an unused canon to fill one of the empty slots, please attempt to build them around a function that they can serve on the ship, remembering that the team was specially designed to perform this mission to Shi'ar space, even if they didn't expect it to take this long.

For the Earth Based X-Men, you may play either a member of the X-Men based out of San Francisco, or you may choose to play an imprisoned mutant with ties to the X-Men, but be aware that one of the first things to happen to your imprisoned character will be to get them involved in the rest of the Earth-Based X-Men plot and that they will not spend much time in the prisons. As with the Space-Based X-Men team, if any OC is created that is subsequently abandoned, they may be picked up by another player. Unused OCs can be found in the Adoption Area and previous posts may be found in the Interactions Archive for those interested.

The Ground-Based X-Men list is as follows:

Xavier - Overall Leader/Founder
Wolverine - Tactical Field Leader - Grey Team - Taken
Storm - Tactical Field Leader - Red Team - Available

If you like this premise and would like to play either in the Earth-Based X-Men or the Space-Based, or both, please proceed to the Character Application Form located here and fill out an application for a character which is not already in play, reserved, or restricted.
