I've watched both episodes of this documentary and the discussion after the 2nd part and it was indeed informative and may deter some people from going down the path which cousins did... However, i don't think that they've achieved what they aimed to do in making the doco. From what some teenager would see from watching this is that first of all: ben cousins was a great player, secondly: he was simultaneously using illicit drugs, third: even though he used drugs as a reward for training and during celebrations, it never changed the fact that he was one of the best players in the AFL. I think they needed to zoom in more on the distress going on in Ben, and the effect it had on his family, as well as the harm it was doing to Ben to actually deter people from considering drugs. Right now it's only putting across that you can use drugs and still succeed as a sportsperson, not a good message. Even if the negative effects aren't affecting his playing ability, surely there are other negative effects they could've used as some sort of scare factor... What's everyone else's opinion on the doco??? |
