Dropping the last bag beside his new bed, Kurt sank into the soft mattress gratefully. He was exhausted. With his brother away for college and his parents unable to call off work, Kurt found himself bringing his all his own luggage up to his room by himself. He probably could have found someone to help him, but he was too shy to catch anyone's eye. Instead, he resigned himself to the strenuous task and finally finished lugging everything into his assigned room after a full hour of struggling and sweating. Gross, he had sweat a bit... Flopping onto his back, he realized he couldn't possibly care less at that moment. 'At least the beds are nice,' he thought, blinking slowly up at his ceiling. He wasn't ready to let the stress sink in just yet; the stress of moving away from his family, of being in an entirely new environment, of being surrounded by strangers. He chewed his lip idly, clearing his mind and willing himself to take a nap. He wasn't due to start classes for another week because of his transfer, so he had time to try and relax. |

For several minutes, Braxton sat in bed, listening to the sounds of what seemed to be a struggling boy moving in. Wanting so badly to sleep, Braxton tried to bury his head into his pillow. It just wasn't happening though. With a slighty huff and puff groan, Braxton sat up, the first time he had done so that whole day. His hair was messy, yet it seemed to go well with his uncoordinated outfit and scruff from going a whole day without shaving. Standing, Braxton took a quick stretch, extending and contracting his legs under his black and blue plaid sweats. His plain grey tee was wrinkled from a night on the floor. He grabbed it and threw it over his head before walking out of his room to meet someone new. Wrestling to find the holes of his shirt while pacing into Kurt's doorway, Braxton spoke, "Hey!" He was very welcoming. He wanted to make the best impressions. It helped him depart from the guilt he was facing from his past. Finally able to find the roles of his shirt, he pulled it down over his abdomen, which needed some toning after being seldom used. So consumed with the thought of meeting someone new, Braxton didn't even notice that his shirt was on backwards... and inside out. The tag of his shirt hung below his chin. "I heard you moving in," Braxton continued. "Need any help?" He chuckled, seeing that the boy was clearly very exhausted. |

Nearly jumping out of his skin, Kurt sat up quickly. He'd forgotten to close the door after himself and now there was a boy in his doorway. A boy wearing a shirt backwards and inside out. He tilted his head slightly at this. "Oh, hello," he said in his soft English accent. "Yes, I just moved in. I apologize for the mess... do you room near me?" |

Meeting someone new was always very easy for Braxton. It was only awkward if he made it awkward. So, he remained as calm, welcoming, and nice as possible: a way of behaving he wasn't used to in high school. "Oh," Braxton could care less about the mess. "Don't worry about it. You should see my room. It's a dump and I'm still new here." He laughed . "I'm just right down the hall. He took a step back and glanced down, counting three doors. "207" He said, nodding. "Sorry for just barging in. I didn't mean to catch you off guard." In previous times, Braxton wouldn't have thought twice about pursuing a friendly relationship with Kurt; It would've been out of the question. Someone with an accent was an easy target... and Braxton's gaydar wasn't necessarily reading a zero... At Echo, Braxton was different though. Ever since the accident, even Braxton realized his attitude towards people was changing and fast. Surprising. |

Kurt found himself smiling easily. The boy's attitude was non-aggressive, if not completely friendly. Normally he found it difficult to speak to strangers, but Braxton was quickly making himself an exception. Still... "I'm Kurt Hughes," he said, the corners of his mouth curling up higher in a polite smile. Extending his hand towards Braxton, he made an unsuccessful effort not to feel uncomfortable despite his history with physical contact. Without removing his eyes from Braxton's face, Kurt did a quick "peripheral check-out" to see what he was dealing with. The other boy was taller and more muscular than he was, and could very easily do some damage. With the deceptive smile practically plastered on his lips, Kurt struggled to keep his heart rate normal while he waited to see the other male's reaction. |

Thankfully, Kurt wasn't making the situation more awkward than it needed to be. Braxton had always been the type of person to be able to approach anyone with an attitude that he knew would win the respect of the other. A half smile shed on Braxton's face, the kind of smile that usually read 'I'm a tough guy, yet still emotionally in tact and ready for bro-lationship.' Still, the memory of Elaina persisted. The last time he trusted someone so easily, he found himself numb for an entire day. Braxton refused to let that happen again. Still, he, too, extended his hand to Kurt, and with a tight shaking exchange, Braxton took a step back and crossed his arms. "It's nice to meet you, Kurt." He paused slightly and took breath before continuing, "And if you do decide you need a hand or somethin', you know my room." Braxton, slowly made his exit, hoping nothing bad would happen to him this time. Kurt seemed nice enough... but then again, so did Elaina. With a friendly smile goodbye, Braxton turned away, heading back to his room for no particular reason. |

Kurt smiled after him, relieved slightly to see him go. He wasn't sure how to interpret Braxton's.... Braxton-ess yet, but he seemed all right. Perhaps it wasn't just wishful thinking to hope that they could be friends one day. He stood and closed the door after a moment so that he wouldn't invite a repeat of what had just happened as he intended to take a real nap this time. Afterwards, he decided, he would finish straightening his room. With a yawn, he lay atop the covers and was asleep before he could even think about changing. |
