While it is true that a lace wig moves, feels and looks just like live human hair and that you can style and use it like you would your own hair, at the end of the day, it is still a wig. And a wig has its limitations. To maximize the use of lace front wigs, owners must learn to take care of them like they take care of their own hair.

Lace wigs, when fitted correctly, can protect your real hair from exposure damage, chemicals and heat. They can also effectively conceal baldness and other hair and scalp issues. But your hair should still receive regular treatments like washing, conditioning and brushing to allow it to breathe and to be cleaned.

Lace wigs, even if they feel really comfortable, should not be worn too long—contrary to popular belief that you can wear it for weeks on end. Wearing a lace wig for more than a few days can cause hygiene issues, especially if the weather is warm and humid to buy lace front wigs.

Lace wigs are attached or fitted to the hair by gluing or double-taping the lace to the skin of the hairline. This makes the wig undetectable. With full lace wigs, lace is glued around throughout the entire hairline. Lace front wigs, meanwhile, are only glued from ear to ear and the rest is fitted to the head with the usual elastic wig cap.

While full lace wigs allow optimum camouflage and the freedom to part your wig hair anywhere you want and to tie it up in a high ponytail, the full lace cap will not hold stuck as long as a lace front’s cap would. The wig is more likely to loosen up sooner. Continued and more constant application of tape and glue also wears down the lace faster.

A wig wearer must avoid using oil-based adhesive or glue removers. These would cause some buildup that would reduce the ability of the lace to stick. glueless lace front wigs should be, like real hair, washed regularly. Most human hair lace wigs can be washed with a little human hair shampoo and lukewarm water. Be careful not to wring out or to squeeze the wig as this will cause its cuticle to break up, affecting the hair’s texture.
