It seems every time this topic comes up, everyone chages their mind. That being said, what attracts you to a forum or website? Elaborate a bit. ;)

Everything really. The skin, content, the people there. If everything looks good to me, I'll join, which usually happens.

A multitude of things. First impression is key for me.

The forum appearance has to be good. It doesn't have to be the greatest design in the world, but I want to see something that I can read the text with and not have my eyes hurt too badly in the general appearance of the forum. This theme, for example, is nice. It has a great flow and a good contrast. The shading that adds depth is a nice touch to it, which really makes me interested in the forum's look.

The community also is a key aspect. I scan over the index to see if posts have been made from today. Then I check the statistics to see if the community has been pretty well built and has a solid foundation. I check the root admin account to see how old the forum is. If it is so old with a small community, then I am not interested. It generally turns out that a forum like that is inactive. However, if it looks active, I check the Today's Top Ten Posters and the Active Topics. Both of those provide a good sense of how active the forum is.

I also check over a few topics to see if there are rules, important notices as needed, and also just good discussions. If those are all good, it looks like a good shot at me registering. I also check the forum attitude while looking at the topics. It should be a forum with grammar, and on a subject I like.

If it fits that all, I will probably join, and post around a little bit in some of the topics I viewed. Even if it doesn't, I might join. keep in mind, this is for free-hosted forums and for things like Invision Power. I'm biased based on the forum software also. If I don't like the look of it, like phpBB, for example, then I won't bother joining. If it's a vBulletin forum, I am slightly more inclined to join.

Checking if a forum is active or not is not always the best way. If everyone checked the activity out and were disappointed in some way, the board would die quickly. It's how unrecognised boards become closed ones very quickly. Advertising can't work unless a board gets member who are just looking for a place to chill out or whatever

Then I suppose it's a good thing that there are people more open minded. We all look at different things in forums. I'm picky. Others may not be as picky. It's a trait though.

according to my sources, i believe you are, indeed, a womanizer.
I would say content, because that is logically what people should join for. But I also look for a nice community (members there) and an appealing skin. And as much as I hate to say it, I also look for an administration and staff team of popular names, knowing they will most likely get set the board at a great pace.

Yeah.

I just base it on content and the general behavior of the staff and members. If the forum is filled with random sexual topics that aren't very mature, it's a big turn-off for me. Or if the staff aren't very friendly it pushes me away.

Skin doesn't really matter to me. As long as it doesn't burn my eyes I am fine, and I can even accept default skins if the board is good. Sadly I can't speak for the rest that reside in the IF/ZB galaxy.

Content attracts me. I don't say "this site looks awesome, so I'm going to spend countless hours on it."
Even if you could shatter tomorrow
I won't run from this place
It cures the fatigue of my body
Your smile
