- The Plot
-
The High King of Taran is dead, and the Taran Era is over. The mighty Tarans, who have ruled since the Joining of the Four Kingdoms, have fallen. All that is left of them are a few distant relatives who hardly even know that they have the name Taran, much less the ability to rule. The High King Belenus of Taran grew deathly ill seven years before, year 976 T.E. (Taran Era), but it was no accident like it appeared to be. Someone poisoned the king, and not one of the High Lords or Ladies was behind it, despite their eagerness for the crown. There was a moment of fear regarding the mysterious death of the king, but now the scrambling has begun. Who shall be the next ruler? Shall he or she be of Ghayth, of Calendae, or Marlas?
The High King Belenus married once, but his wife died, and he never took another. He never produced heirs. The process of choosing a new king is entirely new to the Olencians, since it has never been done before. For now, it shall be up to the courts, but tension is building, and it won’t be long before wars break out. The nobles (Ghayth, Calendae, and Marlas) are raising their forces, and the magicians to the north, the Slayers, are preparing for war as well. It seems that everyone wants their share in the next era.
Will peace and prosperity pursue? Or will war destroy this aged nation? This is the current era of Olencia.
