The Red of Rhos

He bent his head, pressing his forehead to hers, their breath mingling in white puffs around their lips. "How about for now, we just say I owe you a dance."

Madog - a little fall of snow

...because, yeah, apparently the thought of dancing with math rhys or mad reduces me and half the voices (fina included, of course) to giggling wrecks...*grin*

For some it was flowers, others it was food, some girls had a weakness for poetry and many, if not most, for the more carnal of pleasures; and while Hefina could tick each and every one of those on her list, dancing would always, as her mother had said, be the key to her; body, heart and soul. She'd only been a child when her mother had made that little observation, but mothers seemed to have a way of knowing what things would last, what would not. “And my memory isn't that terrible, either, so I'll have to hold you to that now I'm afraid.”

She leant in for another kiss, fingertips warming as they drifted slightly along his shoulder blades. Any man could make Hefina smile, and many had before, but none, until now, had quite found a way to make her smile that particular smile.

“Are you trying to impress me?” His own voice surprised him a little, as it had carried both a cheery and a deeper tone with it. “Because you know, that is impressive” He cocked , a smile tugged at the corner of his lips.

...

His fingers held one first, and threw it up to catch it then. His left hand took another. With a smile, he took the third and stretching his back and clearing his voice, he stared at her when the all tree pieces started dancing between them as he threw them all with both hands making them almost draw a circle before his eyes as his agile palms touch barely the onions giving however the impulse they need to keep moving.

When he threw one of then suddenly very high, he turned to his heels and then catch it at his back with a bent arm and his eyes still on hers.

Spreading his arms then, he showed her the three onions and bowed with a smile.

“Tadaaaah!” He chuckled “I'll be here for the week, thank you, thank you” He saluted then some other imaginaries members of his public.

She was bouncing Margaret on her knee when she drifted off. In her childhood, Ermengarde had such life, and so many dreams about handsome knights taking her away and marrying for love. Names had been picked out for her children, two boys and a little girl (Henry after her grandfather, Richard after her father and little Lilly, after her favorite flower) and she had even dreamed up their beautiful estate. When the marriage to William had been arranged, Ermengarde had been disappointed, but had thought that she might come to love him. Her mother learned to love her father after all, but Ermengarde could not love William. He was unyielding, egotistical, demanding, unforgiving, stubborn and unpleasant in every way possible. Her only joy came from the men at court, as much joy as she could get from them.

...

A chill wrapped around her, so she hugged her shoulders and stopped to look out one of the windows. A few guards were down below and the snow as lovely and cold. Just as cold and lovely as herself. Curse William. Curse him for making her so.

Ermi - Curse the cold

Have to quote again...

-Ermi, Curse the Cold

Know what I love? Not just that you're a fab writer, but that it's a whole other way of looking at him that is, in many ways, just as valid as the swooning!

Because it made her laugh.

Just a brief choke at first, but it blossomed a little, natural and unfeigned, breaking through the layers of ache and hurt and grief like a child throwing off winter cloaks before a fire. Even though it faded again as she raised her hands to clap, the knife shining at the movement, it had still been there. And she'd not laughed since...ah God, how long? September? Earlier? And she knew she had plenty more reason to weep, that it still might get worse before it ever - if it ever - got better again. But for just a moment, she'd laughed, and she was sure that meant something.

"Well done, soldier!" She commended. "Come on though, give me something to do before I start competing and accidentally knife you!"

Which had happened in the past.

Twice.

"I'm glad to hear you say that, though." He flashed her a smile. "Because I would have stayed anyway and just kept coming around for dinner until you finally gave in to my charms."
