This is a general history thread for anyone interested in joining the board or anyone who is confused by all the dates/names/facts now that the board has become a largely historical writing forum: The events of the board started in early 1194. We have since written past the Siege of Nottingham Castle, an event we placed in October 1194. The Monarchs (from at least 1194 - 1199): England and Normandy: King Richard I, the Lionheart (House of Plantagenet) France: Philip Augustus (House of Capet) Scotland: William the Lion Wales: Divided - Llewelyn the Great is largely in control of Gwynedd (or will be); Rhys ap Gruffydd is Prince of Deheubarth The Holy Roman Empire (which is mainly Germany): Heinrich VI *Queen Eleanor of Aquitaine is the Queen Mother - mother of Richard the Lionheart and Prince John. *Prince John is the younger brother of Richard the Lionheart. *Arthur, Duke of Brittany is the nephew of Richard the Lionheart and Prince John (the son of their dead brother, Geoffrey). He is John's only rival to the throne as Richard has no heir. The Church: The Pope: Celestine III The Archbishop of Canterbury (in England): Hubert Walter, also Chief Justiciar The Archbishop of York (in England): Geoffrey Plantagenet (illegitimate son of Henry II; half-brother of Richard and John) Richard the Lionheart will be at war with France until his death in 1199; John will, in fact, take the throne. His nephew, Arthur (and only rival), will mysteriously disappear a few years later. In England, Chief Justiciar Hubert Walter is in control while Richard fights in France.
