The trouble was tht now he could see the dawn, but she could not. She was still stuck in the dim darkness, shivering in a night with no one to draw her out of it but herself. It was his fault, but again, he didn't have the right to wallow in self-pity, to ask her to be happy for his sake. She had Tangwystl, she had her work, and she had herself. She wasn't a shining star any more, and he wasn't sure any punishment or atonement would ever put that sparkle back in her eyes. Maybe time would. Maybe.

or all the things that had passed between them, though he'd meant the initial outburst for their Angharad and not herself, in the end she was not the one he'd gone looking for. It confirmed so much; it choked her breathing as it did, but at least she had her truth, and had one less hopeless dream to keep her from the only one worth fighting for.
