  • 19 April 2015 -- Niwa is under new management!

Niwa is now under new management as we strive to stand up the the standards of fun and entertaining roleplaying we have so far provided here at Niwa. Today makes the start of a campaign to bring in new members as Head Admin Akaiken and Support Admin Sparky work together to improve and uphold the current face of Niwa and keep us all moving forward!

They said this was a city for our kind, they said it was a safe haven from the rest of the world. This was suppose to be the city where we where safe from regular humans. But, in a city where Meta-Humans run rampant, is there such thing as safety? When taking what you want is as simple as waving your hand, or closing your eyes, how can there be law? In this city, the truth is there is only one source of law, and that are the different criminal organizations that have formed all around us. The only order is that of the darkest part of humanity, of criminal organizations where the strong thrive while the weak gasp for air. This is Niwa Nights.. This is our home.

Can you survive it?

Police Precinct, Special Victims Unit

Lieutenant Solaries stood hunched over his desk with both palms pressed against the surface supporting his weight. A few strands of his too long hair had fallen down in front of his face shielding most of his features. There were two stacks of paper before him. The first was his transfer confirmation from the Special Victims Unit to Robbery and Homicide. No one wanted to be scraping up the pieces of someone else’s life forever. Angaelus was no exception. He had joined SVU because he had lost someone, but the tenth anniversary was only a few days away and he had not found a trace. It was the one unsolved case he could not live with and the recommendation from his last psychological evaluation had been for him to transfer. It felt as though he had failed, and worse, that now he was giving up. But the Captain had made it an order. Six months in another division and if he was determined, he could request a transfer back at the end of it.

Very few departments even had Lieutenants. They were the perfect balance between management and field work. Understandably, it did not matter how many detectives upper management threw at the Homicide Department, there was still more work to be done. One of Niwa’s many charms. It was the second stack of papers on the table Angaelus was trying to focus on, the report from Detective Oshiro had everything he needed and more to mobilise a Task Force. The Shipping vessel was due to hit the harbour that night.

There were some details in Hiroshi’s report that as his Lieutenant, Angaelus simply did not want to know how he had come by it. But if he was right, there was going to be a shipping container filled with victims of a small Triad Human Trafficking operation. Worst of all, and the highlight of Hiroshi’s investigation, was that they were children. They could have seized the vessel off shore, but that was not going to shut the trafficking operation down. At best it would set them back a couple months, at worst, it was going to endanger more lives.

1800 hours.

They had a little over four hours before the ship came in. It was enough time to get permission from upper management, brief everyone and get to the Lower East Side. They were going to need some muscle and he had a couple favours he could call in with one or two members of S.W.A.T. but ultimately, he wanted to keep the operation in house. It is what his department was trained to do. Lifting the phone from the cradle, he started making calls. He was light on the details, but the briefing was set in an hour.

Magen understood completely, when she was brought in on this assignment she knew that it would mean that they needed her muscle and tactical abilities. Being in the line of fire was nothing new to her but to the others it might be a different story and she needed to find out if she was going to have full tactical control over the squad in this mission. With those lives in her hands if she did not know the ins and outs of what they were capable of, it could mean a true disaster and one that she was not willing to have on her hands.

"Thank you sir, I appreciate your vote of confidence on my tactical abilities. Now I will be needing a run down of what both you and the rest of the team is capable of that you know. In both if they have any abilities or skill sets. The more knowledge that you provide me then the better I will be able to asses the situation as we delve deeply into it." Magen would be as prepared as she could get to be when they made it to their location. With luck they would be able to free the children and have those responsible taken down to the station or failing that, bring them down to the morgue.

As much as Jacob wanted to believe that the children involved in the case were going to come out of it unscathed, all of his experience working with the SVU said otherwise. He was kidding himself if he thought that the kids would not come out of the entire debacle with anything less than severe emotional trauma. They would probably be lucky if they only developed an incredible fear of strangers or leaving their own home. Just thinking about what they were already going through, and how they be afterward, made his chest tighten slightly.

But he had to compartmentalize, and distance himself. Getting all worked up about the kids, no matter how much his empathy wanted to reach out to them, would not be good for himself or the job. Just as doctors and surgeons eventually learn to limit and control their compassion, so did Jacob.

The crackle of the radio broke any mood they were sharing, and they were immediately back on the job. A situation update was a big deal. It meant something was going down that could throw the operation out of wack. So Jacob picked up speed.

"Hopefully Angelus and Magen got the message too."

Jacob was concentrating too hard on the road to talk anymore. His acceleration hastened their arrival and they were at the meeting point soon enough. Before getting out, Jacob double checked his vest, his sidearm, and his spare ammunition.

“Officer Hattori is fresh out of the academy. She was top of her graduating group, but she is untested in the field. Detectives Cunningham and Oshiro are both human, but they are veterans with plenty of field and combat situation experience behind them.” Years spent working with the men and reading their reports had been enough for Angaelus to put his faith in them. “I am, support.” He did not really know how else to say it. “I can manipulate light and accelerate healing.” It was seriously playing down his abilities, but it was enough to give Magen the distinct impression he was not a frontline soldier.

Whatever else he was on the verge of confessing was lost as the call came in about the suspicious truck. They were early, which meant the entire operational timetable may have been stepped up. He flicked on the siren and lights and sped down the highway which would connect them to the Lower East Side. He would kill both of them before they got close to the docks, but it was going to save them some time in between. As it was, they were only a few minutes out.

“Looks like it is show time.” Officer Saito murmured as the driver stepped out of the truck with and automatic weapon in a strap around his neck. Stepping up to the back of the truck he pulled open the double doors at the back of the trailer. Another three men appeared that were armed every bit as well as the driver. A fifth man circled around the truck dressed in a suit and looked out over the water as though wishing it was going to magically manifest the vessel he was waiting for.

“What should we do?”
Aoi asked, watching everything unfold before him. Toshio was obviously the assertive one in the partnership and the younger officer waited to take his cues. “Should I call in how many guys there are?”

“The Lieutenant and his task force will be here soon enough.” Toshio reassured his partner. “We just needed to monitor the situation, we can give them a full update when they get here.”

“How many men were they bringing again?”

Officer Aoi Maki seemed anxious as the vehicle rolled up to the designated rendezvous, Hiroshi was the first to get out of the car and walk up to the officer. “What do you mean they are early?” It was a surprise to him that he was not yelling or using the pistol from his holster as a means of communication. Thankfully Oshiro’s exterior did not give away the concern that was beginning to manifest underneath, every shipment had been on time, it was the only way members of the Triad could continue this little escapade without having the usual list of mistakes.

The officer had been sympathetic to Oshiro but waited until the occupants were within hearing distance before continuing. “There was a fish truck that pulled up a couple minutes ago, a suit stepped out with four Triad packing automatics... tell me there is still more coming.” There was a glimmer of hope in the man’s tone as he glanced across Officer Hattori and Cunningham. “It’s likely the suit has a gun on him as well, a pistol, something they could conceal.” Hiroshi knew the rulebook, it was likely for a Triad enforcer to carry something concealed and wait for the right moment to reach for the trigger. His mind instantly processed the children as their top priority, second was the suit and the thugs were bound to be cannon fodder. Not that he had the intention of letting the suit walk away with a few years in jail followed by parole. He was going to squeal, if not in the precinct it was going to be at Brit Hiroshi’s hands.

Looking across to Officer Maki, Hiroshi inclined his head slightly as he tightened the Kevlar vest, it felt cumbersome and rigid, two things he was clearly not used to. “Where is the Lieutenant, and the member of Swat was with him?” It was not like the man could ignore a walking robot, even if he looked like a meat popsicle.

"Thank you Lieutenant, with these I should be able to formulate a good battle strategy that should get the children and our people out alright. If possible I will try to take the enemy in alive as well." Cold and calculating was how Magen was when she was going on a mission, not being able to separate her feelings from the job, especially when she was being given full battle command could result in at the very least loss of life. And she was not willing to do anything half assed, going into this she would be as ready as she could be. It was good that the rookie was being with two of the veteran officers, they should be able to give her necessary direction. She could work with the Lieutenant being support, it was mainly that he would be kept back out of the line of fire, she was to be the one that would and could take any of the shots that would go towards them. She was made to take them on.

The time table was stepped up which meant that she would have less time to prepare, she would adapt. This mission could not and would not afford her a second chance to do this right. There were children's lives at stake and she would see each and every one of them freed from their captivity. She would not let them be used for anything. Her thoughts flashed back to the Gaza strip where children and civilians were digging holes to reach across to Israel for planting bombs and creating sneak attacks. She would not let something similar happen here.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Lydia was as ready as she would ever be as she stepped out of the vehicle and followed her partner and Detective Cunningham. She'd follow their lead as this was her first big mission and especially as they have had actual field experience that she just did not have. This was what she had prepared for but actually experiencing it would be something different entirely. Already things were not going to plan since they had arrived early giving their group less time to prepare to rescue the children. Lydia merely remained silent as she watched and waited for the others to arrive.

Hiroshi had the lead once they were all out of the car, with Jacob and Lydia following closely behind to meet the two other officers that were already on the scene. The tension in the air was apparent the moment he stepped out of the car, and he only hoped that no one was feeling antsy enough to start rushing-in and screwing everything up. While the two officers on the scene looked to be holding out just fine, Jacob could see the nerves starting to get close their breaking points, and he could hardly blame them.

The sight of weapons on the Triads, and the anticipation of there being even more guns hidden just out of sight, was enough to get Jacob to start feeling antsy too. Guns just carried an air of danger and tension with them, even if they were not being used. Their presence meant business, and it was really only a matter of time before that business came around.

"Lt. Angelus and Magen will be here soon."

Jacob did not know that for sure, but he had to sound he did.

"Right now everyone just stay low and keep your guns down. We'll make our move when everyone is here and ready."

Everyone was ready to go rescue the kids. Who wouldn't be? It was their natural instinct as police officers to want to do something for them, but rushing in would create more trouble than it was solving. The children might still be in captivity, and scared and worried, but as long as they could still be rescued, then everything could still work out. Starting a gunfight and putting them in the crossfire was not the best option.

(Sorry it took so long to reply guys, hopefully we can keep this topic going now.)
Rather than driving to the rendezvous , Angaelus took the scenic route. The Jeep turned off the highway and followed a path between the warehouses that would bring them out on the docks clear on the other side of the dock from the fish truck and the Triad thugs. The vehicle came to a stop one warehouse over from where they needed to be and the Lieutenant took to the scene on foot. “Let’s see what we can see.” He nodded to Magen. If there were going to be any surprises waiting for them, the pair were sure to find them.

There was nothing Angaelus had access to that was not standard police issue. His sidearm and Kevlar were about the sum of it. He could have manifested anything else into reality, but he preferred to maintain the stealth route. “After you.” Angaelus inclined his head to Magen and let her take the lead. The moment they were in position with a clear view of the fish truck and the men with it he reached for the radio.

“Oshiro, Cunningham. We are in position on the far side of the dock.” His eyes scanned over the area, but it was movement inside the nearest building that caught and held his attention. “I count five men with the vehicle and another four or five inside.” It may have been his imagination, but for a second he was sure that he saw the familiar navy blue of a police uniform. “Are all four uniformed officers at your location?”

Officer Saito looked to the two detectives and their rookie with a blank expression and slightly shook his head as though the Lieutenant was going to be able to hear it over the radio. “The others were keeping watch on the far side of the docks. We haven’t heard anything from them since the truck pulled up.” He trusted whoever was holding the radio to press the button or relay the information.

The Lieutenant was already having a bad day, nothing like an operation going south to make it worse. “We may have a possible hostage situation on our hands then.” He released the button on the radio and looked across to Magen. It was a good thing they were operating on a different frequency, if the other officers had been captured or killed, the Traffickers would have heard every word. He was waiting for Magen to offer some kind of alternate strategy as he laid out his plan. “Oshiro, you and the others need to get into position to take down the men with the truck. We will offer whatever support we can, but our priority is going to be the second group inside.”

Everyone needed to move now, they were only going to have a short amount of time to get into position before all hell broke loose. “On you.” Angaelus nodded to Magen. Behind her was a side entrance to the warehouse and their way inside.

“Understood Lieutenant.” This was supposed to be a simple mission. If the monkeys in uniform had been caught out of sheer stupidity they deserved a few grams of lead. Whatever the cause their mission had not been altered, if anything it was enough of a reason to start shooting first and asking questions later. “You heard the man.” His eyes flashed to the two Officers and across to his partner and Detective Cunningham. “We spread out and hold our ground, those goons are likely to shoot at anything that moves so stay close to cover.” There was a deft quality to Hiroshi’s tone before he checked his watch, if they were lucky the boat was going to be on time, and the children would have been none the wiser.

He waited for the Officers, Detective Cunningham and Officer Hattori to get into position, a minute later and Detective Oshiro was ready to pay the piper. Drawing his firearm seemed redundant, the small calibre firearm was far from his ‘ideal’ type of weapon, but he knew how to play his part. He felt the cold wall behind him as he closed his eyes, inhaling deeply the Glock pressed to his forehead before opening his eyes once more.

‘Time to go pick a fight.’ The shift of a smile ran along his lips.

“THIS IS THE NCPD!.. Put the weapons on the ground and hands in the air!” ‘Failure to comply will result in a severe case of lead poisoning followed by death.’ Hiroshi’s voice echoed along the few buildings. Both determined and forceful, he was not going to lose this opportunity, not to the NCPD or the Triad. He had his purpose and would snuff out the lives of any person who disagreed. But he knew the response any Triad member would make. Like clockwork the first thug with an itchy trigger finger unloaded a clip into two of the buildings before them, presumably as a warning. But it was a fear tactic used to keep the sheep in place. Two other Triad looked like they were ready for a fight as they spurted out something about filthy pigs... and their mother.
