| They said this was a city for our kind, they said it was a safe haven from the rest of the world. This was suppose to be the city where we where safe from regular humans. But, in a city where Meta-Humans run rampant, is there such thing as safety? When taking what you want is as simple as waving your hand, or closing your eyes, how can there be law? In this city, the truth is there is only one source of law, and that are the different criminal organizations that have formed all around us. The only order is that of the darkest part of humanity, of criminal organizations where the strong thrive while the weak gasp for air. This is Niwa Nights.. This is our home. Can you survive it? 1800 hours Police Precinct, Special Victims Unit Lieutenant Solaries stood hunched over his desk with both palms pressed against the surface supporting his weight. A few strands of his too long hair had fallen down in front of his face shielding most of his features. There were two stacks of paper before him. The first was his transfer confirmation from the Special Victims Unit to Robbery and Homicide. No one wanted to be scraping up the pieces of someone else’s life forever. Angaelus was no exception. He had joined SVU because he had lost someone, but the tenth anniversary was only a few days away and he had not found a trace. It was the one unsolved case he could not live with and the recommendation from his last psychological evaluation had been for him to transfer. It felt as though he had failed, and worse, that now he was giving up. But the Captain had made it an order. Six months in another division and if he was determined, he could request a transfer back at the end of it. Very few departments even had Lieutenants. They were the perfect balance between management and field work. Understandably, it did not matter how many detectives upper management threw at the Homicide Department, there was still more work to be done. One of Niwa’s many charms. It was the second stack of papers on the table Angaelus was trying to focus on, the report from Detective Oshiro had everything he needed and more to mobilise a Task Force. The Shipping vessel was due to hit the harbour that night. There were some details in Hiroshi’s report that as his Lieutenant, Angaelus simply did not want to know how he had come by it. But if he was right, there was going to be a shipping container filled with victims of a small Triad Human Trafficking operation. Worst of all, and the highlight of Hiroshi’s investigation, was that they were children. They could have seized the vessel off shore, but that was not going to shut the trafficking operation down. At best it would set them back a couple months, at worst, it was going to endanger more lives. 1800 hours. They had a little over four hours before the ship came in. It was enough time to get permission from upper management, brief everyone and get to the Lower East Side. They were going to need some muscle and he had a couple favours he could call in with one or two members of S.W.A.T. but ultimately, he wanted to keep the operation in house. It is what his department was trained to do. Lifting the phone from the cradle, he started making calls. He was light on the details, but the briefing was set in an hour. |

As incredibly awful as it was to say, Jacob was a mite fortunate to have been called onto the Triad Trafficking case. Something as severe as trafficking children was an issue dire enough to completely take his mind off his recent relationship/life troubles. It was a lateral move, if he was being totally honest, but it was a situation where he could actually do something about it instead of just feeling the immense ramifications of it. Shaeris would never be back in his life, but he could do his damnedest to make someone else's life better in some way, and put some nasty people behind bars. Better was the problem that could be solved than a systemic problem with his own psyche. Ever since that one night, Jacob had been taking more and more field work as he grew used to the idea. The majority of his time was still spent in the office or going out and collecting statements of unfortunates. He was just out and about more on cases that required he carry his gun. So getting called up by Angelus was not a total shocker to him. He was in the office shortly. After a brief knock, Jacob entered quietly, noting the Lieutenant's posture and stack of papers. He could already tell from a glance that one stack was transfer papers. Jacob had seen enough in his time to know them on sight. The other stack was probably the information on the case he was called in for. "Alright. I'm here, Lieutenant. So what's the case?" |

Her first case. Lydia was awash with emotions as per the course for her. She was finally going to get the chance to help people. It would be time that she would be able to show her twin brother Miinar that there was a better way than brute strength and the power of the criminal underworld. The Police force represented the Order that would be able to help people. That was why she was here and what she was planning to do, perhaps the world would gobble up her ideals but that was who she was and she'd carry them through until the end. After being told to report to the Lieutenant for the mission she made sure that she was ready. Physically she was as ready as she could possibly be after all of that training at the academy and she wasn't planning on going soft in that regard anytime soon. It was the mental preparation that she needed to work for. Once she knew what she'd be up against it would better help her predict how to act and adapt accordingly to the situation. Her mind was a finely tuned instrument and she'd tend to keep it that way. Lydia strolled over to Lieutenant Solaries's office and walked in with a light knock on the open door. He always kept his door open, she liked that about him. She gave a quick salute to her ranking officer and stood in a bit of a rigid stance. "Officer Lydia Hattori reporting as ordered sir!" ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Magen was finishing up routine maintenance when she got the call to report to Lieutenant Solaris for a mission briefing on a Triad child smuggling ring. She was in a small room that had been converted into a makeshift Lab for onsite repairs and upgrades. As an experimental Android it was needed to insure that everything would go well with the project. Dr Cohen was screwing in a circuit board on the armor on her left leg. She gave him a look through the visor, one where even he could easily tell what she wanted. "Yes, yes, my daughter. I am almost finished. Just a couple more twists and this will be done. And there. Good as new, better perhaps." The elderly scientist looked up at Magen and smiled as he closed the panel. "I must be going Father. Do not wait up, if they are calling for me then there will be heavy fighting." The android began to walk out of the makeshift lab when she turned back and gave a smile to the good doctor. "Do not worry, I will be as careful as I can be. Besides you made me a very strong body and nice armor too." Magen headed off to the office as Dr. Cohen shouted down the halls. "I think that gives me an idea for an upgrade for you!!" The android police officer walked calmly into the office and took a stance next to the others. "Magen of S.W.A.T. reporting as ordered Lieutenant Solaries." She took an at ease stance as she waited for orders. Magen wore as she usally did around the NCPD station, her black and gray metallic armor that covered everything except for the lower half of her face. Her eyes were covered by a red visor that could currently allow her access to night vision should she require it. The armor fit her form perfectly and showed off her athletic figure standing at 6' tall. |

For the second time Hiroshi checked his sidearm as he continued along the corridor, nervous, concerned taunted his emotions on the inside as he reminded himself what this meant, what it all meant. Jiao had been so little when he first saw her... ducking into the closest unoccupied work station Detective Oshiro paused before taking a few deep breaths. 'Keep calm! your loosing your shit right now.' For Hiroshi this should not have been a struggle, just another night with a few dozen lives at stake... children, why did it have to be children. Audibly he should have groaned, instead he clenched his fists and continued through to the Lieutenant's office. “Detective Oshiro, reporting in sir.” There was a definitive tone to Oshiro’s voice as his eyes looked across to the Lieutenant, Solaries may have had all the pleasantries at his disposal but there was something Oshiro could not put his finger on. For the time being he would play the game and continue this charade until the smuggling ring was eradicated entirely. His eyes ran across to Jacob, he was a safe bet, another Detec-... well, let’s be reasonable. A few years’ incarceration in Osore and a string of mental institutions before that does not qualify anyone as a ‘Detective’, well guess that depends if your still certifiable or not. Officer Hattori on the other hand was beginning to grow on him over the past week, thankfully she had survived her first night. Robocop on the other hand had been a complete surprise as he felt like he was staring at her with every glance. ‘That must have been the reason for those power outages... but where do you put the batteries?’ It was only a matter of time until working this job payed off, wire taps and video surveillance was a pleasantry Hiroshi was quickly becoming used to. It answered questions and linked the known members of the organisation with relative ease, all he needed was a name, any name. The details he had managed to tear out of the Triad enforcer was hardly enough to let the sack of meat live, pegging them off as an ‘informant’ took away the hassle of dealing with the paperwork, and all it cost him was a jerry can and a box of matches. The look on the Triad’s face was priceless. He acknowledged the members that awaited further orders, but nothing could have surprised Hiroshi at this point, this was the case he had been working on for the past year, regardless of the face he wore. |

He would give his team one thing, they were punctual. “Thank you for coming so quickly.” Time was just another of those commodities the NCPD was constantly trading in. Angaelus had acknowledged each member as they walked in and his eyes had weighed Officer Hattori. It was not something he wanted to take an untested rookie into, but she was Hiroshi’s partner. Chances are she had worked closely with the detective to bring the report together and knew just as much about the case as what the Lieutenant himself did. Jacob as always was a welcome sight. It was the member of SWAT that was the complete unknown quantity in the room. “I am only going to say this once. There will be room for questions, but time is not on our side. Whatever questions you may have that I cannot answer, Detective Oshiro should hopefully be able to fill in.” Short, sweet and to the point. He had run off copies of the report Hiroshi had given him, complete with surveillance images of the dock the ship was coming into. “There is a ship coming into the harbour in about three hours that has been identified as a smuggling vessel for a child trafficking operation.” He swung his computer monitor around so the others could see it and brought up a fairly generic police profile and mug shot on a Chinese member associated with one of the Triad groups. “One of the men we suspect to be involved is Wan Yi. According to organised crime, he is a mid level enforcer for the Red Dogs. It is safe to assume he is working for someone else, but we have no leads on who that is yet.” “By all accounts, it is a small operation, so I am only expected four or five men at most. But it is the Triads and they are known to shoot first and ask questions later. I expect everyone to be wearing Kevlar.” It was standard operating procedures, but he needed to be completely upfront with his team about what they were coming up against. Magen’s presence should have been enough of a giveaway there. He did not need to give everyone the speech about using excessive force or what to do in a life threatening situation. Lydia would have been able to recite that for him and she was fresh out of the academy. “The plan is to apprehend the men before they have a chance to reach the children being shipped in, I want to keep them out of the crossfire. They will have a truck or something else to move the cargo with, outside of anyone getting eyes on Wan Yi, that is going to be our best bet. Paramedics and Child Services have been notified. With any luck they can come in and assist with the victims as soon as we take down the operation.” That was all Angaelus had. There were a lot of if’s and maybe’s in there, plus the overwhelming sense that they were flying blind. If it turned out to be more men, they were going to get themselves into a tight spot. The element of surprise was on their side and there was still plenty of time to get into position. “Questions?” |

The group that Angelus had called-in for the case turned out to be an eccentric one, even by the standards of the NCPD. Officer Lydia was, perhaps, the most normal of the bunch besides Jacob. She was at least a normal-looking young woman ready to take on the hardships and responsibilities of being an officer in the SVU. It had taken awhile, but Jacob had long grown used to the sight of so many young people in his department and in the police in general. Perhaps it was a testament to educational standards in modern times or young people were simply more eager to get into such demanding work. Whatever the case, he was fine with Lydia's presence even if he wasn't sure she was even old enough to drink. Even Hiroshi was an okay sight given the circumstances. Though he and Angelus shared an "otherwordly" look about them, they were still just dudes. The fact that he was also a detective, however, grated on Jacob just the tiniest bit. It was the same feeling he felt when he saw that, for instance, the Tokyo Police Superintendent was a young woman that could have passed for his daughter. It was probably the only thing he felt that made him feel like an old man. Magen, on the other hand, probably made up the vast majority of the weirdness Jacob was feeling about the gathered group. For lack of a better term, she(?) was definitely a Robocop, right down to only exposing the lower half of her face and the red visor. No doubt she would be the muscle behind their group. Angelus seemed find with the people in the room and Jacob would have to be as well if they were to complete the case successfully. He listened carefully and even grabbed his own copy of the reports to scan over. "Do we have any back up on this op if things go south?" |

Lydia had full confidence that this group that the Lieutenant prepared would be fully up to the task to rescue the children and put a stop to this child trafficking operation. This would be her chance to prove herself in the field and she wasn't going to let anybody down. With her partner by her side she was filled with greater confidence, they had worked hard to get all of this information put together. Granted, Hiroshi had done all of the leg work but she had put together all of the paperwork from his findings. Now for the fieldwork, she would try to follow her partner's lead in the actual field but she knew her way around a firefight, at least in training. It was now that she was going to pot all of that training, all of her time in the academy to good and practical use. The actual plan that was laid out by the Lieutenant seemed straight forward, at least if it went according to plan. Of course if there was one thing that she had learned at the academy it was to make a backup plan since the first plan didn't always pan out. Once actually out in the field, having the lay of the land, Lydia would probably be able to devise a proper backup plan. Without seeing everything that they had at their disposal she could not properly prepare for any problems that they might face. The rookie police officer was already prepared and had her under clothing kevlar vest on for the necessary protection ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- For Magen it was basically like being back in the warfront, dealing with a small number of troops transporting unarmed civilians for use on the front line to dig tunnels underneath Israel. Here however, these children would be taken and used for unknown, most assuredly at least nefarious purposes. And if there was one person that was going to stop it, it was going to be her. She would do her best to protect the innocent and try to keep her teammates from harm. There was one question that the Android wished to secure a possible answer to before they would begin to prepare to get underway. "Sir! Is there a possible Evac plan in case the mission goes FUBAR due to a miscount of enemy forces or any other unforeseen difficulties that we might be unable to deal with?" The other officer might of asked about backup but it seemed to her to be important to have an escape plan for the less expendable members of the team. |

If Hiroshi could hear thoughts he would have been flattered. Otherworldly would have explained the Lieutenant. But Hiroshi Oshiro was as average as they came, unless Jacob was taking a shine to the detective ten years his junior. He would not have been the first guy to take interest. Hiroshi had been on the force for a decade before he made rank, if that meant he was a new face or some spring chicken something had gone wrong. He had however recently transferred across from Robbery and Homicide after his partner died. Hiroshi knew the details that had been outlined in the documents, if they were lucky it would be a simple open and shut case. But he was never lucky. “A word to the wise, your vest is fantastic with small arms fire. But it only protects a part of you, you do not want to get shot in the leg because the second tap will be your head.” It may have been redundant, but Hiroshi’s tone gave into the severity of being a downed police officer in enemy territory. And he could vouch for being shot in the thigh, it frigging stung. 'Ah, Police Girl... good times.' Indulging in the moment Detective Oshiro seemed to bite his lip in silent contemplation, she was gone, it should have been as simple as that. But it was not. |

“There are a four uniformed officers already on site monitoring the situation. We will be meeting up with them and they need to be fully briefed when we arrive. Both SWAT and the Hostage Rescue Unit are on standby. But if we can intercept the Triads before they can use the children as shields, it will be fairly straight forward. If we pull up and our Intel is way off, we can call in the rest of SWAT to take over.” It was by the books with all the appropriate contingencies in place. Upper management were not going to authorise more than a handful of officers based on the information they had. Apparently mobilising the whole S.W.A.T. team for a bunch of no name kids from god knows where that may or may not still be alive was not within the scope of the N.C.P.D. budget. The last part of that particular train of thought, the Lieutenant kept to himself. His officers were all intelligent enough to understand what ‘on standby’ stood for in the bureaucratic world. The other problem with ‘on standby’ meant the S.W.A.T. team was not going to leave the precinct until something had already gone wrong ~ which was going to put back up half an hour away. Saying ‘don’t screw up’ was not the pep talk Angaelus was prepared to give anyone. Hiroshi may have been lacking in tack, but he had a point. It may have been for the benefit of Officer Hattori, considering the only one there who could take a bullet in the leg and keep going was Magen. “It goes without saying that everyone needs to watch their step and don’t take risks.” No one was going to be going in alone. He had nine men on the ground which would be split up into teams. The core of his strategy was to keep Lydia out of the line of fire by having her secure the children and allow the seasoned veterans to tangle with the guys with guns. Their job was to apprehend the Triads, not get into some pissing contest that resulted in a pile of corpses. At least that was the plan. “Exit strategies are usually reserved for incursions into known hostile territory. The docks are still under the control of the City, minus a few vessels that have been linked to criminal activity.” So maybe not ever contingency was covered. “If we need to fall back, there should not be anything between us and the nearest exit.” Taking the party to Chinatown would have had a different response, but there were only so many avenues they could cover. “Everyone get your gear on.” It was go time. “Cunningham, take Oshiro and Hattori. Magen, you’re with me. We’ll rendezvous with the uniforms at the docks.” |

The question posed by Miss Robocop felt particularly out of place considering her contemporaries and the situation they were all about to go into. The question itself was fine. The way she worded, however, stood out to Jacob. The tone was overly formal and the word usage stood out to him. It was... militaristic, in the sense that Magen was talking like a soldier rather than a police officer. He supposed if they really needed the big guns on the operation, then a military cyborg was about as good a big gun as the force could afford. Images of Peter Weller gunning down a building full of drug dealers flashed through Jacob's mind, making him feel both concerned and thankful for Magen's presence. The concern might have been misplaced. Magen was no Robocop and seemed in no danger of going rogue on them, though he hoped the violence was kept minimal. The thankfulness originated from the fact that Jacob also picked up on the implicit explanations Angelus gave in response to their questions. Jacob was all too familiar with the limitations posed by budget and bureaucracy. Hopefully Magen was back up enough for them. When the go ready-up was given, Jacob took a moment to compose himself. He breathed deeply, puffing out his cheeks a bit, then looked at the two he was given responsibility for. "Alright. You heard the man. Lets suit up and move out. I'll drive." |
