  • 19 April 2015 -- Niwa is under new management!

Niwa is now under new management as we strive to stand up the the standards of fun and entertaining roleplaying we have so far provided here at Niwa. Today makes the start of a campaign to bring in new members as Head Admin Akaiken and Support Admin Sparky work together to improve and uphold the current face of Niwa and keep us all moving forward!

They said this was a city for our kind, they said it was a safe haven from the rest of the world. This was suppose to be the city where we where safe from regular humans. But, in a city where Meta-Humans run rampant, is there such thing as safety? When taking what you want is as simple as waving your hand, or closing your eyes, how can there be law? In this city, the truth is there is only one source of law, and that are the different criminal organizations that have formed all around us. The only order is that of the darkest part of humanity, of criminal organizations where the strong thrive while the weak gasp for air. This is Niwa Nights.. This is our home.

Can you survive it?

She should of known better when dealing with a figure that seemed to come and go with the ease of a shadow from the darkness but unfortunately she was still caught off balance at the shift, losing her valuable grip on her knife as she almost tumbled headlong into her glass distraction that lay on the floor. Then suddenly the shadowy man stopped her from falling in a dance move it seemed, catching her with eloquent style as through they were a couple performing a beautifully choreographed dance number for an audience and judges. His smile most assuredly caught the assassin off guard as he pulled her back to her feet and offered her the knife back which she took back with a nod before putting it back into her boot for safe keeping. A strange fellow indeed.

Yana turned to look in the direction of the doorway once she heard the voice talking directly to her in response to her questions to the shadow. It was made quite clear that this extremely tall cloaked man was the one in charge. It was some time since she had felt goosebumps in the presence of another individual, it was not fear or anticipation, it was something that was most assuredly within the space between and around them. She could almost feel the static electricity building up in the air around them.

The mercenary assassin looked at the man and spoke with a cold and calculated voice with a hint of curiosity. "Very well. So since you have been watching me and most likely evaluating me for some purpose, how did I do?" This was the time for talking and not fighting, Yana was not one to fight against the strain of things when it was shown that those nearest her weren't trying to fight or kill her for some reason or purpose. "I am fully understanding that since I was fully caught by surprise that your man of shadows over there would of killed me quickly and quietly if you had wished. If I am allowed conjecture, I am believing that you were observing me so that you could see if I am worthy enough to hire for a job."

Seraph listened to Yana speak. It was an accent he was familiar with, the slightly broken speech pattern, her no nonsense way of handling things. He wished he had gotten to know her the first time around, but his mother had always spoken highly of the assassin. He leaned behind the bar, returning when he had two glasses and an unopened bottle of Vodka, as though he knew exactly where to look. More likely it was because all dingy bars were relatively the same.

“If you would not mind, Wraith.” From beside Yana the shade inclined his head before dissolving from a solid being into nothing at all. He was not gone, but his lack of physical presence made it easier for the two to speak privately. After the few party tricks the lovely Russian had seen, she would not have made the mistake of thinking Seraph was alone or that his shadow would allow anything physical of the unreciprocated kind to happen.

He stepped across to her, his booted feet crunching over the broken glass as he set the bottle and glasses down on the nearest table and pulled up the nearest seat. He spent a moment to shake off any excess glass before sitting down. Most people were intimidated by his height, among other things. The occasional spark of electricity that ignited in the air around him meant his physical was the least of someone’s problems, unless they were immune to lightning. For Seraph, it was simply the residue of surging enough electricity through Toshiro’s chest to stop his heart, but not enough to show up on an autopsy. “The man you were paid to kill had a heart attack a hundred feet down the street.” There was a deep gravel quality to his voice as he spoke, screwing the cap off the vodka bottle and pouring two generous shots into the waiting glasses.

It made sense to start business on the right foot. Costing her a job and damaging her reputation was not the right foot. “I would like to hire your services, but it is not just for one job.” There was a half smile that tugged at the corner of his mouth as he slid the glass across the table towards Yana. “Freelance mercenaries and assassins are easy to come by, even ones with a reputation like yours. What I am looking for is a more permanent arrangement.”

Yana kept her eyes on this mysterious figure before her as he gathered up a bottle of vodka and "dismissed" his servant. She knew that the shadowy figure would still be around protecting him. Fading into the shadows she had no doubt that if she were dumb enough to try anything that he would not hesitate to end her life right here and now, good thing that she was substantially smarter then that then.

The gears were turning in her mind as he walked over the glass at sat down at a nearby table. The man was tall, extremely so, she was on the taller side for a woman being 5'10'' but he towered over her being almost a foot taller. Yana was never intimidated by the size of those around her. it would of been his powers over electricity that would of caused her more fear than height. If she was indeed afraid of such things. The only thing that she fears, the only thing that she has ever feared for so long was that she would never be able to stop killing one day. Being trained since the age of twelve to kill was not something that would be easy to overcome but one day she would like to settle down and live a life of peace.

The mercenary followed suit and walked over to the table, sitting down to listen to what he has to say. He had her full attention, well almost full attention, part of her was keeping focus for that shadowy man even though there was no way that she would be able to find him. Old habits tend to die the hardest. As soon as the man spoke however, a smile lit up on Yana's face. "Well. That changes everything comrade. In business reputation is everything. As soon as you fail one mission that would go down toilet. Not that I would know personally. I. Do Not. Fail." That last bit was fully punctuated for emphasis, she took great pride in her skills to undertake missions. Following that she drank the Vodka in the glass with one gulp before putting it back down and slightly nudging it forward.

Yana listened to his proposal to hire her personally as more then just to carry out a single mission or target as her face became a more neutral unreadable expression. It was not unusual in her line of business for larger groups to wish to acquire her for full time staff in their service. Of course the Ex-KGB agent had high standards about who she would do that for. It was one thing to work a single job but to actually pick an employer, well she was very picky about that which was why she had not done so since the dissolution of the KGB. "I am listening. What do you have to offer me? And what would exact arrangement be? Also if I am to be working for you I must be having your name. To be properly courteous even though you must already know me, I am Yana Zolnerowich."

“Within the City, I am simply known as Seraph.” He introduced himself with a smile, refilling her glass and lifting his. “It is a pleasure.” Throwing back the shot he was reminded why vodka was not his usual drink for a reason. It tasted like a mixture between battery acid and methylated spirits. If Yana wanted any more, she was welcome to pour it herself and he made a point to place his glass rim down. Introducing himself to people he met before never really occurred to him. His memories of Yana were sketchy at best. She was meant to die 12 years from now when a chemical plant melted down. Of course, she had been the one who melted it down. All because the company the factory belonged to was manufacturing a meta human toxin. She had over stayed her operational window to ensure every twisted scientist in the place went down with the ship.

It was before Nathallion had come into his abilities, before they could simply step back and replay the event with more information. The journey from paid mercenary to loyal enlist was a long one. Right then he rather doubted Yana would have died for anything other than her own cause. “It is less of an arrangement and more a question of what you want.” The psychological profile he had on Yana was comprehensive. It usually happened that way when it was a telepath conducting the evaluation. “Everyone has a price, money, power, love... peace.” He may have slightly emphasised the last one on the list, more to watch her reaction and to gauge how guarded she was.

“I can give you what you want, and I am not going to ask for anything in return.” It was cryptic, most things Seraph said were cryptic. But he was vague for a reason. “What I am offering you is to be a part of something important, an organisation that will make a difference. I am offering you the chance to fight for something, and ideal and a belief that is not corrupted by political influences or personal agendas.” She was a soldier, and a damn good one. It was time someone offered her a cause worth fighting for.

"The pleasure is being all mine Comrade Seraph." She took another shot of the Vodka that had been so ever graciously poured for her by her newest drinking companion and even though he carefully guarded himself at all times she was able to gather a glimpse of discomfort at the drink. Vodka was not for everyone after all. Why just a few days prior she met some fellow Russian ladies in a bar and they probably drank all of the vodka there that night. Good times.

Yana continued to listen to Seraph's pitch, she would do the polite thing and hear him out. She was not planning on committing to anything yet. She had worked as a solitary soldier on her own path for so long. It was doubtful that she would hear anything that would cause her to change her mind. Suddenly it was her turn to have a slight reaction. His words of price started out usual enough but the emphasis that he had placed on peace. There was a slight softening of her eyes before she regained her composure and resumed her normal look. It was brief but he would be able to tell that the word had affected her. She was confused, it seemed that he knew more about her than she had assumed. She did indeed want peace but could he truly offer that? It was a tall order for a killer like her to have peace of any kind. To be able to settle down and have a family. The possibilities would be endless if Seraph could truly provide.

The mercenary was most assuredly intrigued by his offer. Not for a minute did she believe that he wouldn't want anything in return from her. If there was one thing that she had learned during her lifetime it was that there was always a catch. Even if that catch did not turn up anytime soon, it would be there eventually. However the offer was still too good to turn down if the man could deliver what he promises. She took the bottle of Vodka, taking a swig from it before placing it back down in front of her. "I have had thoughts on this proposal and I am believing that I will accept. It has been some time since I have been part of a group in order to make a difference. I would like to try it out again, if what are are saying is truth. However, I wish to put stipulation that if I am not liking what I am seeing or doing that I will be allowed to leave. In that case you would never see me again. Are we having deal?" Yana placed out her hand for a shake.

Seraph accepted Yana’s offered hand, but instead of shaking it, he lifted her knuckles to his lips. “You have my word.” He would not have stopped anyone from leaving who did not believe whole heartedly in what the Moirai did and what they stood for. It was one of the things which made them so successful. There was no compromise, not with a single operative. It had been his life’s work, and he had the opportunity to do it over again, to do it right before everything was so far gone all he could do was slow the inevitable. The Moirai were his family, he protected them so they could know peace. The irony of it all was that they protected him as well.

There was one detail Seraph often overlooked when it came to physical contact. Chemical attraction did not even come close to the slight electrical current that surged through Yana. The slightest look of surprise or discomfort and he would have released her hand.

Digging into his dark jacket he would have produced a business card ~ of a sorts. The card itself had no details on it, just the image of a stylised flame and the word Dusk written beneath it. “You should make an appearance for a new years eve celebration.” She was a resourceful woman, it would take her no time at all to figure out he had just invited her to a club on the posh side of town, and she even had a set time and date. “Until then, Yana Zolnerowich.” With that, the demigod took his leave.

It would only be a matter of time before the ambulance showed up for Toshiro’s body, but to be sure the man made a point to glance along the street. He was exactly where he had fallen with someone’s jacked laid over his face. The good Samaritan no doubt, he would have been the only one that bothered to hang around and wait for the ambulance, if nothing else than to tell the paramedic how the poor bastard had died.

Speaking of paramedics, there was someone else he needed to check up on that evening. Like the shade who trailed after him, Seraph had no problem disappearing into the night.
