| They said this was a city for our kind, they said it was a safe haven from the rest of the world. This was suppose to be the city where we where safe from regular humans. But, in a city where Meta-Humans run rampant, is there such thing as safety? When taking what you want is as simple as waving your hand, or closing your eyes, how can there be law? In this city, the truth is there is only one source of law, and that are the different criminal organizations that have formed all around us. The only order is that of the darkest part of humanity, of criminal organizations where the strong thrive while the weak gasp for air. This is Niwa Nights.. This is our home. Can you survive it? Yana Zolnerowich was one with the darkness around her after all her KGB training wouldn't allow her to do anything less. To not be up to that standard would shame her country and her Order, not that either were in the same state as when she has been trained but it was the principle of the thing. She was calm and collected as she eyed her target, a squirrely looking Japanese business looking man in a disheveled suit and everything. The streets were far less crowded at night then they were during the day but there were still some people about. For her to work perfectly there would be no witnesses to the act, at least none that would be alive for very long. Yana however was very good at keeping her body count low when she had only a single target, unless her employer wanted to send a message. That was when things would get messy, although she never left any trace of herself at the crime scene. She was not someone that made rookie mistakes like that. Yana was a 5'10'' woman of Russian descent with jet black hair that went just below shoulder length. Her outfit consisted of a black low cut V shirt showing a bit of cleavage usually but currently covered up by a black jacket with accompanying skintight black jeans. Her ensemble outfit gave her an advantage to sneaking around in the darkness. The current target on her list was one Tashiro Sako, an employee of one of the strip clubs that the Triads own. Of course this hit had nothing to do with the Triads, it had to do with his jealous wife. Apparently Mr. Sako was not a very faithful husband and was sleeping around with the girls there. Needless to say her current employer hired her at great length for her to kill him and make it look like an accident so that she can claim the insurance policy that had just so recently been taken out on his life. In and out from one shadow to the next. She went with inhuman speed into an alley way and jumped up to the roof of a two story building to get a bird's eye view of her target. It was clear that the man knew something was up. Yana left no clues for others to follow but knowing her luck the wife had decided to torment her target about his immanent demise. Honestly that happened more often than you'd think in this line of business, someone wanting to get in the last laugh and gloat. That is what happens when one does not work for professionals. Watching Tashiro until he rounded a corner she hopped from one roof onto another one only to catch him entering a Nightclub. Time to shift methods. Yana glided herself down to ground floor in the shadows and took off her jacket holding it in her arms which revealed a multitude of tattoos on her right arm. She shifted her facial expression from one of stone faced coldness to one of an airy bubbly club goer. She smiled and winked at the bouncer as she cut the line and came into the club, music loud and throbbing. Yana would find him, she never lost a target. |

The shadows played along the darkening street had hidden the assassin perfectly from her mark and the masses of other people who were active in the streets that night. But the being who was watching her had the perfect vantage from roughly five storeys above the street. It may have seemed like the most natural thing in the world, except the tallest building on the street stopped at only three storeys. The man seemed to hang there, suspended on the air around him as he watched the game of cat and mouse play out beneath him. He wore an ornate black robe with a hood that looked more like something out of the renaissance or some cosplay involving a priest. Unless someone had known what they were looking for, they would never have seen him. “Are you sure?” The hollow voice echoed from nothing directly beside the man as the huntress followed her quarry into the nightclub. “Not yet.” The man in the black cloak replied, letting gravity do most of the work for him as he descended into one of the darkest shadows the street had to offer. A moment later he strode across the open street and past the waiting queue to enter the Nightclub. If anyone objected to him cutting the line, they kept their opinion to themselves as the six and a half foot robed figure stepped past the bouncer on the door with nothing more than a meaningful glance. His mismatched eyes gold and silver eyes scanned the press of people he had no problem at all locating the ‘mouse’... and there was his ‘cat’. “I want to see how this plays out a little longer.” He had spoken the words aloud, but no one would have been able to hear him over the sound of the music. Rather than standing by the door and sticking out like a sore thumb, he found a booth which offered a decent vantage over the entire nightclub. It was the kind of seating usually reserved for Nightclub Management who could kick back and still keep an eye on everything. There was no way miss Yana Zolnerowich could have suspected she was being followed. He was a master at covering his own tracks and he had ensured that it was a real job in case she had done the smart thing and investigated the man before deciding to pull the proverbial trigger. But then, the man seated in the far corner was only here to observe, the real threat was a lot closer to her. |

Tashiro had visibly relaxed as he had entered into the crowd of the nightclub. It would be much more difficult for anyone to get at him in here, even if there was anyone after him at all. Clearly his wife was just trying to rattle him with all that talk of sending someone to take him out. He had access to all their money and if he died she was most definitely not going to be seeing a single yen that was for sure. Once he got back home he'd teach her not to threaten him the hard way, at least before smoothing things over. Then things should go back to the way they had been without any of this nasty business. How had she found out about him fooling around with the girls anyway. Besides the point. Tashiro sent out a text to some of his men from the strip club and started dancing in the crowd as he watched the doorway for anyone that looked threatening to enter. Of course the hunter had already been inside and her prey had no idea. It was unfortunate for his own life that he could not of taken any more precautions to preserve it. She continued to adopt the role of a club goer who had been out partying for the length of the night. Facial expressions gave off the impression of someone much younger which thanks to her good looks was not difficult at all to pull off. Yana started dancing through the crowd, switching from partner to partner getting closer to her target. Light hearted and happy, completely carefree and energized would be what anyone that looked at the assassin. Clearly able to blend into any environment that she chose to with utmost abilities as per her training. By the time Yana made it to the businessman she was wearing two black gloves that went up halfway up to her elbow. After all if she was going to be getting close enough that she'd have to touch him better to not leave any evidence. Dancing up to Tashiro she mouthed in perfect Japanese Want to Dance? due to the loudness of the music there was no way that he would of heard her if she was just speaking the words. He nodded as she knew that he would. She looked like a beautiful and slightly intoxicated woman. The two began to dance to the music. It was loud and throbbing but her target seemed to take solace in looking at her with lecherous eyes. Good, it will be easier that way. After some time she leaned in close and in a perfectly American accented version of Japanese she whispered asking if there was anywhere they could get more intimate in private. Clearly his wife was lying when she said she hired an assassin. No had followed him in her and he found a pretty woman to be with for the night. He started leading the club goer towards the back exit as some Triad members come in through the front entrance. At this point Tashiro had forgotten that he had called them and he could care less. |

From the seat across the nightclub the cloaked and hooded figure watched the scene unfold. His mismatched eyes never left Yana, he was watching for even the slightest hiccup, anything that was going to give her away. She was a little more direct than he would have liked considering she entered the club right after her intended victim did. That was the kinds of things video surveillance was going to pick up on. Anyone who knew what they were looking for would have seen right through it. But then again, he was a man who had high standards. There was still a lot Yana had to brush up on, but she was instinctively doing so many things right. As soon as she had stepped through the back exit he walked through the Triad men just coming into the entrance. It was enough of a subtle distraction to pull their attention away long enough that none of them made Tashiro as he was lead down the garden path. ‘Stay with her, and keep her mark alive a little longer. I want to see how she improvises.’ The thoughts were perfectly formed in his mind, and it was more than enough. Yana was fast, but she still needed to be able to see what she was up against. No one gave the tall cloaked figure another look after he stepped out of the Nightclub and continued around the corner. Three steps out of sight from the queue that had been pushed back and forced to wait even longer due to the arrival of the Triad thugs, the cloaked figure pushed off from the ground and landed a second later on the roof before circling around to where the back exit would have been. It was a cramped little service road with a couple dumpsters and even more rubbish that did not make it into the bins. At the far end there was a drug dealer peddling their wears who quickly decided to move off the instant he noticed someone exit out the back of the club. Shirokawa was famous for no one ever seeing anything that went down. The police had investigated a murder in a high density apartment building once and they could not find a single witness. Yana had done a spectacular job luring Tashiro away from the crowds with no fuss at all. If the man was thinking with anything other than his groin, he may have had the life saving sense to question what a woman like her wanted with a man like him. Even the years Yana had behind her were not enough of a reason she would be interested in a man like Tashiro. But the specifics of the job were to make it look like an accident. Unless the accident she was about to visit on Tashiro was a random mugging gone wrong, she still had some work to do. The shade that was tracking her every move would have allowed Yana to do anything and everything to her hapless victim short of killing him. Orders were orders after all. |

Yana had Tashiro eating out of the palm of her hand as they walked out the back of the night club and out onto the streets. She laughed and giggled at his jokes and even things that were not jokes just to keep up the appearance that she was merely an intoxicated tourist girl looking for a good time. He didn't question anything and of course why would he? She was giving him everything that he wanted and other men in his position would most likely react the same way. That was something that she liked about people, people could be easily predictable if put in certain situations. It was almost comical how the majority will react in a similar fashion, and then there were those extremely interesting ones in the minority that just reacted sometimes without Rhyme or Reason but to their own drum beat. Those were the ones that made life interesting, that made her work more interesting. It was all well and good when everything went according to plan, but part of her missed the old days when she had the funds and the true network surrounding her giving her the tough assignments and then things going Fubar and she'd pull through anyway. It took only a few suggestions and insinuations of what she wanted to do to the man to get him to agree to a nice private place. He wished to take her to a Love Hotel and Yana agreed. It would suit her purposes just fine after all they would never make it to the stage that he would want to get to, he'd be long dead before they got that far. Internally the mercenary smirked, when she went into an assignment she always had multiple contingency plans for how she was going to take out her target. And in this case, especially for someone as disgusting as this, well she had the perfect vial to take care of him. Tashiro called over a taxi to take them to the Love Hotel. The man was positively giddy at the chance to get with Yana especially after going through the excitement and frustration of having to deal with the false alarm of an assassin. What absolute nonsense that his wife would hire someone to take him out. But that doesn't matter, tonight he'll spend with this very sexy American Tourist who then he'll never see again anyway. He'd be sure to give her a night to remember. Soon enough the two made it to their destination in almost no time at all and once there Tashiro picked the Dungeon Suite, of course he did. Yana merely giggled and smiled at the man as he led her by the hand up to the room. Once in the room he already started undressing but in American Accented Japanese Yana proclaimed that they should have a drink before they get started. As she poured the two cups, with her back turned so Tashiro couldn't see what she was doing, not that he was looking at anything but her shapely rear anyway, the assassin poured a vial taken from her bossom into one of the cups that soon enough blended in with the rest. This liquid was a form of drug that can cause the subject who ingests it to have a heart attack but it is untraceable and appears fully natural as though the heart attack was not induced by any outside interference. Yana had procured such a liquid through great expense of her contacts. It is difficult to get a hold of these days but had been used by both the CIA and the KGB. She had managed to gain one vial for use in just such an occasion. He would soon be drinking the poison and the rest of the job would fall easily into place as she plays the mistress damsel in distress card at the front desk. |

Showtime... Yana could not have heard anything, but Tashiro would have clearly seen the shadows behind her condense and take form. One moment it was nothing more than a disembodied darkened spot, the next it had become as solid as any man... and worse, it was someone, something he recognised. Every member of the Triads who had been there that night 12 months ago knew the Xin Hop Assassin. He had destroyed half the Tai Yeung Council within a minute. There was a price on his head high enough to give anyone with so much as a sharpened kitchen knife ideas about killing him. But Tashiro had been there that night, he had seen what the shade was capable of and he did what any sane man would have done in his position and bolted for the door. So this is what his wife had meant?! The rational thought of how his wife could have found and afforded that particular assassin was beyond him, all he knew was the moment of self preservation and he all but fell over himself as he ripped the door open to flee. The shade stood six foot tall with part of his face obscured by his long black hair. He was clad from head to toe in leather armour and in each hand was a blade, similar to a wakizashi in length. Wraith would have been pressing the shadow blade against Yana’s back. It was not intended to injure her, but it was enough to let her know that her life would have been lost already if he was there to do her any serious harm. Of course, her quarry was escaping, and all she had was a pair of glasses in her hand. |

Her target had bolted for the door and she felt the blade up against her back. Another assassin perhaps? No, that would not of been the case or else she would of been run through. She had not seen this foe and all the super speed in the world would be unable to avoid an attack that you could not see. She almost had to laugh at the unfortunate situation, she had not thought that she would be followed or pursued in any such way while on a job. Simple carelessness that she would not repeat ever again. There however would not be a way in any of the Nine Hells that she would let her reputation as a mercenary of the utmost highest caliber be ruined by some other assassin scaring her quarry to ground. This was her task and she would complete it, even if things went completely off the rails. Using her super speed to move fast as well as gracefully, Yana turned with a twirl towards her left seeing the strange armored figure wielding blades and looking like someone from feudal japan. Most usual of course but that could be looked into afterwards. She flung the drink without the poison in his direction while taking off after Toshiro. The remaining drink ended up going into her flask. She would not waste the poison if she could help it. Not being easy to procure meant that it would be handy to hold on to even if she wasn't going to use it on her current target. This mission would not be a bust for her. Her target has recognized the strange figure, a terrifying visage to be sure but there must be something about him. She quickly caught up with the man and adopted the terrified face of someone who was running for their life. In his terrified state he'd be more susceptible to suggestions of a place of safety so Yana led him through a nearby apartment building. Out the other side followed by going into another one with twists and turns. It would be difficult though not impossible for someone to follow them. They ended their chase in a small but dingy bar, somewhere where one wouldn't think to look for Tashiro. After catching their breaths, she offered him the drink from her flask in order to help him calm down. A nice and strong start while she goes to get another drink from the bar. She kept one eye locked onto the man as he sat down in a corner booth, still running on adrenaline. Hopefully that assassin won't pop up again and prevent Toshiro from sipping the poison. Improvisation was good, Toshiro did not know that Yana was the assassin trying to kill him. She played the part of terrified damsel in distress. But running was not something that was going to save her from what was after her. Naturally there would not have been any sign of anyone or anything that followed them. But ever shadow and darkened corner they ran past whispered to the incorporeal hunter of exactly where they had gone and the path they took to get there. That they had gotten that far was because the shade was toying with his prey. No sooner was the flask pressed into Toshiro’s hand and he was sat down in the booth, the lights to the little bar went out. Toshiro was all set to wet himself, the only light in the bar was splashing through the windows from the street lights, and given the part of town they were in, that was few and far between. Be it imaginary or actual, the shadows around them seemed to shift with a will and mind of their own. The few other people who had been in the bar, including the barkeeper started looking for the exit and everyone with any sense at all could feel the hairs standing on the back of their neck for good reason. Assassin may have been too gentle a term for the creature hunting Yana. Monster would have been a closer account of exactly what Wraith was. There was a twisted kind of enjoyment in the shade as he watched Yana go through the motions. Yes, he could have killed her. No, there was nothing she could have done to stop him. He had played this game for century after century. For the first time in over two millennia, he had a purpose and a reason. The woman who dared to love the monster was long gone, but there was something else he could do now. He wore a collar without a tyrant yanking on his leash. That was not to say it was an ideal set up, but it was the closest he had ever come to freedom. He did what his master wanted for the asking, not because he was compelled by a supernatural bond to obey. Toshiro was nothing more than a casualty in the task before Wraith. The bait on the hook to lure his real objective from hiding. So far, for a human, she was exceeding his expectations. But that was to be expected. “There was a time I would have given you an honourable death.” The hollow voice echoed from all around them. Cold, lifeless, there was nothing but death waiting in the dark. Toshiro did exactly what he needed to do to ensure his own survival and ran like the coward he was. Of course, his ego and overinflated sense of self worth had never considered the possibility the nightmare was not after him. This time when Wraith solidified, it was as an imposing barrier between Yana and her quarry, he was close enough to her that her speed was not going to help her a second time. Even if she somehow managed to sidestep him again, another shadow would have appeared in her way. “But I would rather see if you can dance.” The twin blades she had glimpsed before began forming in his hands and, like the shade himself, became as solid as he was a second before the unnaturally sharp blade would have connected with the assassin. The spineless Toshiro did not even turn around in his blind panic to be free of his imagined demons. Nothing and no one was going to stop him from racing out the door and chances are he was not going to stop any time soon. |

Her target gone and all she had to show for it was some mysterious shadowy figure that spurned her every advantage against her target at every turn. A lesser trained assassin would of lost their cool at that point but not Yana, her advanced KGB training and The power of the icy cold Northern Wind would see her through the day. He wished to see her dance? Very well, there will be much dancing on this battlefield. She would not run away from an opponent that was hunting her. All that would be doing would be to serve as a detriment to future missions. With lightning speed, Yana grabbed her NR-40 Soviet Combat Knife from her boot and with careful aim, deflected the oncoming swords before twirling around in front of the shadowy man with the grace and poise of a Russian ballerina. She stared at him with cold unfeeling eyes before speaking with the thick accent of her Motherland. "Well Comrade, Why are you hunting me and driving my quarries to ground? Is much rude. If you had been wanting to fight you just should have asked. Now it is very unlikely that I will be able to be finding him for some time, most unfortunate." The mercenary sighed. "Now I am to be dealing with you. You have a name that I should be knowing?" Yana sped to the bar and grabbed a few bottles which were immediately tossed at her target. With her other hand she grabbed her small Markarov silenced pistol and shot each bottle with a single shot causing the glass to all shatter. Distraction covered by shards of glass flying at her opponent she moved into position behind the man with her knife held up to his back in a repeat of what he had done to her earlier. "I am not liking games comrade, explain your reasons for pursing me. I know that if you had wanted me dead I would of been dead at least a few times over." |

Toshiro was three steps out the front door of the bar when he careened into the tall cloaked figure. The man mumbled an apology, at least that is what he thought he heard. Honestly Toshiro only cared that he had been in his way. The man pulled him to his feet and before letting him go he pressed one of his hands against his chest. Which was right up there with the list of weird shit that had happened to him that night. There were no words to describe what he felt. Some cross between being punched in the chest and shocked by some piece of faulty electrical equipment. Toshiro did not even have time to think about it, he needed to run, he needed to put as much distance as he could between himself and the shadow and go to ground so it could never find him. Pushing away from the cloaked man he managed three steps before he realised something was wrong, something was very wrong. His chest burned and he was gasping in air but it was not doing anything. He stumbled into a car setting off the alarm and drawing the attention of everyone around him. He grasped at his tie and at his chest. Pain searing through his body. The partygoers just stood there and watched as the man clawed his way to the front of the car before collapsing onto the sidewalk. Of the dozen people standing around, three of them pulled out their phones to take pictures or record a video, there was only one noble soul among them who rushed to Toshiro’s side. He must have done a first aide course at some stage in his life or watched enough hospital dramas because his first words after he checked Toshiro were to call an Ambulance. “He is having a heartattack.” He yelled to one of the bystanders who did not want to stop recording to actually call an ambulance. The guy was already dead. No ambulance ever rushed to get to Shirokawa before. Besides, recording the guy dying and some monkey waving his hands around with no real idea how to save the guy was way cooler. Amidst the commotion which ensured, no one noticed the cloaked figure step into the dingy bar or what he had done to the man. Toshiro’s still warm corpse was all the distraction he needed. Wraith politely listened to Yana as she berated him for his lack of professional courtesy. He even stood still through the shower of glass and bullets without taking his eyes off her until she made her move behind him. The woman was a fast learner. But the knife which should have pressed into his back met open air as he shifted away from her. She would have had no problems following his movements until he shadow stepped directly into her, knocked the knife from her hand and snatching it out of the air as it fell. The movement should have unbalanced any normal person completely, but he would caught her well before she hit the glass covered ground in something which could have only been described as a dance move. Well, he had said he wanted to dance. No one ever took him literally. “He followed you because I ordered him to.” The voice which spoke would have come from the direction of the door. Wraith would have looked down at Yana and smiled slightly, pulling her back to her feet and offering her knife back. Stepping from the shadows and into the light filtering through the window from the street, Seraph reached up and pushed his hood back. “I already saw how you handled a job which went according to plan last week. I wanted to see how you improvised.” There was something more to the man who spoke to her. He had presence, that much could be said for anyone who was in the upper echelon of six and a half feet tall. But there was something else, Yana would have instantly felt the air shift in density with enough of an electrical current to give her Goosebumps. |
