Niwa's Recent News
  • 19 April 2015 -- Niwa is under new management!

Niwa is now under new management as we strive to stand up the the standards of fun and entertaining roleplaying we have so far provided here at Niwa. Today makes the start of a campaign to bring in new members as Head Admin Akaiken and Support Admin Sparky work together to improve and uphold the current face of Niwa and keep us all moving forward!

They said this was a city for our kind, they said it was a safe haven from the rest of the world. This was suppose to be the city where we where safe from regular humans. But, in a city where Meta-Humans run rampant, is there such thing as safety? When taking what you want is as simple as waving your hand, or closing your eyes, how can there be law? In this city, the truth is there is only one source of law, and that are the different criminal organizations that have formed all around us. The only order is that of the darkest part of humanity, of criminal organizations where the strong thrive while the weak gasp for air. This is Niwa Nights.. This is our home.

Can you survive it?

The snowfall was heavy and deep. It seemed like Niwa would be stuck beneath a blizzard for a year at this rate, but that didn't mean much to Nobuo Hasegawa, one of the NCPD's premier veteran officers, tonight. You see, it was his day off and he strolled through the still and quiet streets of the usually-bustling Shirokawa with a smile of content. It was his day off, and there was one thing he definitely wanted to do on his day off with a brand new paycheck.

The bar.

He opened the door and stepped right in, dusting off the bits of white flakes that gathered on his shoulders. It was light night and day, the contrast between the outdoors and the inside. It was bustling and with a tinge of sweaty humidity in the air. It was already fairly late, so the sour stench of alcohol was present. Nobuo envied them. He needed to join them.

"Hey Barkeep! Lemme get a beer!"

Miinar Hattori was sitting at the bar enjoying his drink when that NCPD man walked in. Even out of uniform it was so incredibly obvious that that man was a cop. The way he held himself, the way he walked, heck even that smile across his face, all standard for a member of the NCPD. It still boggled his mind that his twin sister Lydia wanted to join up with those losers. He chugged down the rest of his beverage before ordering another one. When was Lydia going to learn that there was no benefit to being a toadying lackey of the Police Force. All it was going to do was get her killed and he might not be there to get her goose out of the oven this time.

He let out a sigh as the officer came up next to him to order a beer. Hopefully he wouldn't want to strike up any sort of conversation, Miinar was here to relax and not deal with any swine tonight on this cold night. Miinar was decked out in his white top with feathers that went up all around the v of the neck and around the back as well. Kept him warm in the wintertime so it was indeed practical. Black jean pants with a brown belt and a nice watch on his left wrist finished the ensemble. Down below his feet by the barstool was his guitar case that he held his Shamisen in, he wasn't the best player of it in the world but it helped draw any suspicion off that he had a katana stored in it's false bottom. He drank more of his beer as he hoped that the man would just get his drink and leave.

P.S. Go right ahead and interact with Miinar

The beer arrived quickly to Nobuo's delight, and the man reached for his piping mug of ale with a smile on his face. He stared into the light brown water with its snow-white foamy cap, raised the glass to feel the weight at the handle, then quickly paused. Wait, it was a rule that Nobuo often lived by when it came to a situation like this. The man drank alone many times before, but he had always made sure to make a new friend or acquaintance to drink with. He had this core belief that alcoholism stemmed from drinking by oneself, and Nobuo definitely did not want to take up that title. His eyes scrambled across the room, making note of all the strangers in the area. There weren't many ladies of a much more attractive appeal to Nobuo, so he reset his parameters to someone--anyone. Luckily for Nobuo, there was a man sitting beside him, keeping himself and his--hey, is that a guitar case? Sold. Nobuo swiveled in his stool to face the stranger sitting beside him. In his usual gruff and tired voice, Nobuo raised his glass toward the stranger and maintained his smile.

"Cheers, stranger." He held his glass up, waiting for a clanking response.

Aw crap. Not only was he noticed but now the cop was clamoring for a cheers. Of all the places to have been located he would of had to of ended up near a member of the NCPD. This was all Lydia's fault some how he just knew it. Because ever since she had become part of the NCPD he figured it'd make is life tougher somehow. At the very least now he would have to play nice. Making nice with the pigs certainly could have it's advantages as long as he didn't say the wrong thing. Miinar had always had a bad case of foot in mouth disease, perhaps since he was being conscious of it in this situation it might not manage to affect him, he could hope at least.

He quickly put on a fake smile that he had prepared for when he was forced to be happy against his own will. "Cheers, Officer" Miinar took a swig from his drink. "So. What were we cheering?" He might of been many things in this situation. Not truly happy of having his drinking solitude disrupted by an off duty police officer. A man that was wanting to work his way up the Yakuza chain of command. But he was also genuinely curious at what this Cop could of been celebrating. Perhaps it was just that he was having a day off. But his curiousity was starting to get the better of him which was why he had asked in the first place.

With the stranger's sip of his drink, Nobuo followed suit with his own swig. Well, not a swig--more of a gulp. It was his day off, after all, but that wasn't the reason why he planned on drinking profusely tonight. He let his heaping glass jug knock against the hardwood bartop and let out a satisfied ahhhh. He smiled even brighter, showing off some of the wrinkles hiding beneath his dark brown hair, and wiped away whatever foam was on his lips with his wrist.

"Officer? How could you tell?" Nobuo's eyebrow rose, not overly suspicious from the man's comment. He was curious, if anything. Did he accidentally bring his badge? His eyes scanned his self to make sure that he did not somehow manage to walk out the door tonight with his crisp uniform bottom. Or maybe this man was a fellow cop who'd seen Nobuo before. "And I'm cheering for the night is young, friend! Payday just rolled in, and I've got a healthy liver!" He raised his glass once more.

"Cheers!"

Miinar had almost laughed at the man's question. Seriously? He was asking how he knew that he was a police officer. That was a laugh. Though it was so much of a laugh that he had decided that he would be willing to converse with this man after all. A guy willing to get drunk on his payday would possibly be someone who was willing to throw money around.

"Well I could tell that you were a police officer because of the way that you walked and held yourself. All you Police have a certain way of walking that just says that you are the law." He knew not just because he had seen many other officers before but also due to the fact that his own twin sister was a newly minted Police Officer for the NCPD. Miinar was keeping tabs on his sister because even though they didn't always see eye to eye on everything, he was still going to try to protect her and keep her safe. A job that would be much harder with her throwing herself into the direct line of fire by becoming NCPD in the first place. But hey, what could you do?

"Payday is always a great time friend! Cheers indeed!!" The Yakuza member raised his glass up again and took another large gulp before placing the mug back on the counter with a clink. Inside it seemed that he had drank all of it. Looks like he'd need another one. He reached into his pocke tand started fumbling around looking to grab some yen to pay for his next drink.

"Cheers!" Nobuo clanked glasses once more, disregarding whatever tone the stranger had used when calling Nobuo as you Police. It was ingrained into his body, after all, that he would always be treated differently in the city of Niwa. The cops were different--they were a fraternity of their own. They did not want to admit it, but they were also their own entity and group among all the other dark seedy ones in Niwa. They were no Yakuza, that's for sure, but they looked out for their own. So many brothers and sisters had fallen while protecting the city, and so Nobuo wanted to make sure that he worked to protect and preserve those lives...

Old man, make sure they didn't die in vain.

He tilted the glass and loosened his throat. He let it all slide in and let the hoppy flavor bubble and brew all the way down into his stomach. He pounded that glass of beer quick, then slammed it on the table. He let out a satisfied sigh--his thirst barely quenched--and looked over to his new comrade for the evening.

"You ever think of being a cop?"

Finally managing to pull it out of his pocket, the money was placed on the counter and another beer had been forthcoming. A smile lit up on Miinar's face as he grabbed hold of it and raised it up once more with a clank to his new police friend. "Cheers!" Boy, he sure liked to celebrate a lot. Perhaps if the man gets to be drinking a lot he can learn something useful about the cop, maybe he has some secrets that need airing to just the right ear, or maybe he is just a goodie two shoes like his sister. Time tonight would tell after all, at least if he was on the luckier side.

The glass was tipped as he poured the alcoholic beverage down into his throat. Due to his higher then average constitution it tended to take him longer then most to even get a buzz, another unfortunate problem with his family's curse. At least the benefits had a tendency to outweigh any sort o f problems that have occurred.

At the man's suggestion, Miinar looked around to make sure that he was the one being talked to. "Me be a cop?" The young Yakuza member shook his head slightly before looking back to the police officer. "Not for me. I work in construction, I'm good at building things, and sometimes deconstruction cause sometimes I'm also good at knocking things down." He chuckled slightly. "My twin sister though, she just joined up. Fresh out of the academy. I think she got sent to SVU or something like that."

[OOC: 5 Days Later xD Sorry.]

The words from the stranger's mouth rang a ball in Nobuo's ears. The sibling of a cop!? As if Nobuo were not already friendly enough, the middle-aged man let out a healthy roar and smacked Minar on his back, patting him horribly hard with joy and glee.

"You shoulda told me your sister's a cop! We pigs gotta stick close, you know? Hell! That's amazing!" Nobuo raised his glass in the air and stared off at the ceiling lamp as though it were some divine being.

"To your sister, stranger! May she serve and protect forever." He proclaimed, looking around the room in hopes of gaining the support of the other drunkards around them. Unfortunately, Nobuo was only loud enough to be a nuisance to the bartender and to Minar--not to anyone else sitting around the bar.

Nobuo drank his drink, finally silencing himself because he was too busy chugging it all down. He could feel the cold, crisp, fizzy, hoppy fluid crash against his throat on its way down where the rest of his body would bring it to the right temperature. Another satisfied sigh of satisfaction, then a strange and probably-uncomfortable roll of the palm against Minar's back--hopefully he didn't have any personal space problems.

"What's the last name? Same as yours? God damn. A rookie cop, eh? Gonna clean up the city for us, right?"

This guy was just way too enthusiastic for Miinar who had come to the bar just so he could drink in some nice peace and quiet. He never should of said that his sister was a cop but since he started he might as well go all the way with it. That'll surprise his sister if word gets back to her. She'll probably be worried that he was socializing with cops for some sort of nefarious purpose, as though he were plotting to do something bad to the police right this very moment. But nah, as long as they didn't get in his way and he didn't get any orders to the contrary, he wasn't planning on killing any cops anytime soon. Since he sister was a cop there was a liability that something would reach her back along the chain whether good or bad.

Miinar raised his glass up in the air, clinking off of Nobuo's cup. "May the Hattori twins last forever" He took another swig from his alcoholic beverage. Such an odd fellow, way too friendly to be a cop though, right? Maybe it was just because he was off duty and on his payday but for someone to be this nice to survive he had to be crooked in some way.

"Well she is darn sure going to try." He chuckled, that was right, she was going to try to clean the city up. But with what little power the police force actually had in this city it was very likely not going to happen. Well once he makes his way up the ranks, he'll save a spot for his dear sister. Wouldn't want her to start at the bottom once she comes crying to him after all.
