Niwa's Recent News
  • 19 April 2015 -- Niwa is under new management!

Niwa is now under new management as we strive to stand up the the standards of fun and entertaining roleplaying we have so far provided here at Niwa. Today makes the start of a campaign to bring in new members as Head Admin Akaiken and Support Admin Sparky work together to improve and uphold the current face of Niwa and keep us all moving forward!

They said this was a city for our kind, they said it was a safe haven from the rest of the world. This was suppose to be the city where we where safe from regular humans. But, in a city where Meta-Humans run rampant, is there such thing as safety? When taking what you want is as simple as waving your hand, or closing your eyes, how can there be law? In this city, the truth is there is only one source of law, and that are the different criminal organizations that have formed all around us. The only order is that of the darkest part of humanity, of criminal organizations where the strong thrive while the weak gasp for air. This is Niwa Nights.. This is our home.

Can you survive it?

The air throbbed with both the smell and sound of club goers and music. People both young and old partaking in beverage as they leaned on the barrier that fenced in the patio to the bar they were occupying. To most people at this time of night, you'd see the dim lights seeping from the entrance, little red cherry-lights from cigarettes dancing in the shadows as people waved their hands in conversation.

But to Chevy everything was clear as if someone had turned the sharpness up on an old television set. She had invoked the beast's eyes to see for her tonight, she wanted no surprises. She had herself convinced she were here on business. A bit of hearsay brought her to this boardwalk. Scanning faces and listening in on conversations as she walked. She searched for a man who frequented this boardwalk to make his less than admirable business dealings.

She knew as a part of Vanguard, she should apprehend him and bring him in, but her business tonight was personal. She had heard on the streets that this particular man had had dealings with her brother in the past. Or at least, she assumed when someone had mentioned a man from Ireland, the last name beginning with a "C" she figured she had nothing to lose.

The bar scene always made her a bit nervous, but not for her own safety, rather for others. Her beast liked to rear its head, and claws.. and sometimes teeth, if she were provoked. And sometimes there was little she could do to control it. Making a scene in the name of Vanguard wasn't on her list of things to do today. So her plan was to have a few drinks, keep her eyes and ears open, and try to relax, at least a little bit, so as not to look suspicious.

She had braided her hair down the side, tying it simply with a blue ribbon, her usual attire of a black tank top, and a pair of close-fitting blue jeans that had the beginnings of faded wear at the knees.

She made her way into a particular bar, her body twisting and turning gracefully through the crowd, only coming within a hairs breadth of another human, until her trek brought her to an empty bar stool within hearing distance of the entrance.

The barmaid greeted her without looking at her, filling shot glasses almost as quick as she effortlessly slid them down the bar without spilling a drop. Chevy wondered if perhaps that had been a process of trial and error, and how many angry customers it had taken to get it right.

She rested her elbow on the counter, head under her chin as she diligently began to observe the company she was keeping this night.

She could tell from his analyzing stare that he knew exactly what he was doing and what the reaction from her was. She took a breath and breathed out, the hairs on the back of her neck standing on end. She was working hard to control the shift that threatened to bring forth her claws and mark this man with a few stripes.

"I'll hold onto my vitality while I still can." she retorted, forcing a somewhat playful tone to her voice as she tried to mentally re-call what number she was on shot wise.

She gave up, and decided to just keep them coming. She knew her limits, and she wasn't quite there yet. She didn't want to be shown up by this jar-head.

"I've seen my grandfather drink more than you. Perhaps you should keep up." She offered a smirk, ordering this time something on the rocks. The monotony of the alcohol was beginning to numb her tongue. She wanted it sharp and ready for any other retorts he had to offer.

"Whats your name anyway? No, no, wait. Let me guess." she stared at his face. He had to be at least thirty. From America. What were usual American names? "George?" she tilted her head slightly, spinning her shot glass around on the counter with one finger.

She was restraining herself, that was a good thing, not as volatile as he first thought. That said he noticed that his words were getting to her and she obviously had trouble declining a challenge. "Vitality only lasts as long as you maintain it" He said with a smile, raising a glass to her and putting it back, though his face looked more flushed he didn't seem to be phased whenever he downed another glass.

The little red-head had spunk, he could at least admit that to himself, the quip about her grandfather even got a little chuckle out of him. "Like I said, experience, means you'll lose just like I would against your grandfather" He gave a slight smile, not all too unpleasant either, though when she asked his name he simply stayed silent for a moment, not certain if he wanted to give it yet.. Only his first name should be fine.

"Jack, yours?" He said in short, taking another deep whiff from his cigar, adding more to the already smoke filled room. The ambiance was something he felt most comfortable in, it was the perfectly safe scenery that often put him at unease, nothing was ever completely safe.

The bartender moved to turn on the television, but as soon as it turned on it showed nothing but distorted pictures. "Piece of shit, I just bought this a week ago!" Jack simply gave a knowing glance to the bartender followed by another chuckle. He knew why it wasn't working, same reason most electronics didn't work around him.

Spending nearly a decade tracking, and gathering info, being but a mere fly on the wall, Chevy knew how to catch subtle hints. She was well aware there were people like her out there, with odd powers and abilities. She reached casually into one of the pockets of her cargo shorts and checked the time on her phone, noting the "No Signal" alert in the taskbar.

Perhaps he had a scrambler on him, though that wouldn't explain the T.V. malfunctioning. She put it out of her mind. If that was all his abilities allowed him to do, it was of no threat to her unless she was attempting to send data via electronic devices.

"Jack, yours?"

She couldn't help but smile, she had guessed George, Jack wasn't too far off base.

"Jack? Is that short for Jackson?" she continued downing the deluge of alcohol coming her way, the effects definitely taking its toll, a light bubbliness replacing the usual edge to her mood.

"Chevy, thats m'name." the slight slip into the more informal irish dialect put a heavier drawl on her words. Something that happened often when she drank. She usually kept her words with as clear diction as she could, but her roots really showed when she relaxed.

"What say ye to a game?" she smiled, a challenging glint to her eye. "For every drink we each take, we each got ta' share a bit o' bout ourselves. Except the other gets to choose what you reveal. Failure to reveal means you buy my next drink and vicey versey."

She couldn't contain a small giggle. Confident she could win this one. Not sure if he would accept the challenge. She was sure he would, especially with his quip earlier about her keeping up.

He turned his attention to her for a moment when she took out her phone, diverting it swiftly afterwards. "Just Jack." Didn't seem like that question needed more of an answer than that, it wasn't short for anything and he didn't care to reveal his last name anyway.

"Chevy.." He repeated the name to himself, simply to make it easier to remember, even though she shared the name with a brand of cars, short at least. The alcohol seemed to have a similar effect on both of them, perhaps just like him she was just a person who needed some downtime, nothing wrong with a good drinking buddy.

"A game?" He retorted not waiting for an explanation at that point, listening after that however. "If that's your way of hitting on older men, fine by me, you'll lose." A slight grin on his lips as he gazes at her. "You got a deal."

He motions to the bartender. "Bottle of whiskey and a bottle of rum, we'll figure out who pays who after they're empty." And they would go empty he figured, whether it was her that survived the onslaught of alcohol or him that finished what she couldn't, it'd go empty.

The bartender came up with two bottles and put a small bucket of ice next to it. "Just make sure it all gets paid. The bartender wasn't joking, no doubt he had often enough been ripped off in the past.

Chevy grinned at his next words, throwing her head back and laughing. "Older men? Just how old do you peg me?" her eyes sparkled as she broke the cap on the bottle of whiskey, pouring a shot and raising it to him.

"So I guess I'll start. Most embarrassing memory you can recollect." her eyes glinted with a mischievous spark as she held the shot up to him, waiting for his answer to see if he would drink or not. She'd wait for his question before she drank herself.

It had been a while since she had felt this sort of excitement. The unplug from human interaction had proved too long for her. She offered a grin to the bar tender, her happiness infectious as he gave a slightly reluctant smile back. She'd pay him by the end of the night, however things turned out with this man. Either way.

He followed her lead before answering, filling up his glas with rum. "Spunky little red-head about what, twenty four?" He figured she was pretty young, seemed young enough at least and not a bad looker, probably quite the fire cat in bed.

"Most embarrassing moment I can remember.." He pondered the question for a few moments, he had his fair share of moments in the past. Right now he was simply considering which one was the worst.

"Pissed my bed during initial training in the army." Wasn't the best way to start his carreer that's for sure, he remembered it well because it was after the first time they had gotten drunk and he went so overboard he couldn't even feel the need to use the bathroom, let alone hold it up.

Now it was time for his question, he didn't want to ask the same question however so he simply decided to go in to another path, he was a man after all. "When is the last time you got laid?" He says with a grin, figuring he could see if there was anything to do after they got sick of the bar.

At his answer, Chevy started to giggle, trying to cover her mouth as she met his challenging gaze. "Pissed the bed eh? Very nice. Remind me not to share a bed with you anytime soon." she winked at him, listening to his guess at her age. Surprised he guessed quite close. Usually people thought she much younger. "Twenty-six, actually." she said with a mock matter-of-fact tone.

Stretching a little she swirled her finger around the rim of her glass, waiting for his question.

She didn't have to wait long. Her face flushed a bright red, rather unexpected that question was to her. Though the answer wasn't difficult. She weighed whether to drink or not.

Reluctantly, she shot him a side glance before swallowing. "Eight months, give or take... a week or two." She cut him a slightly playful glare.

"My turn again... I won't make you reveal how many miles you've got left mate. Don't worry; However... how many women have you bed?" she offered a question of the same nature. Awaiting his answer.

"Was a long time ago, was sixteen, a boy at best." He said with a grin shooting back the drink with a smile, he was a little flushed but it was obvious he was a seasoned drinker, finishing the cigar he had lit up and moving on to the next, cutting off the end and lighting it.

"Twenty six, not young enough to avoid, old enough to know a few things.. Good age." He said refilling his drink. He was a little surprised when she answered however, eight months was quite a while but it said something about her, she was probably quite a determined young woman and peculiar taste as well.

"Eight months huh.. Sounds like you've had a bit of a dry spell" A little mockingly, trying to get her to react. Her question in turn didn't surprise him, though he wasn't certain what kind of woman she was, would she really want to know? Didn't matter, she asked.

"More than fifty, less than a hundred.. Not sure really, don't remember all of them, don't want to remember all of them." He shot back the second glass, he hadn't played a game like this in over ten years, shows how many new people he met in a casual environment.

He wasn't sure whether to go on this same trend of questions or change it up.. He is a man however, that doesn't change. "Ever been married?" He figured it was close enough to the same sort of questions but a change that was good enough, perhaps take her back a little.

She relented on teasing him about his accident if he were only sixteen at the time. Sixteen wasn't too long before she had left home herself. It felt eons ago. She took a drink despite the game, pouring another to have it ready.

"Twenty-six. Not young enough to avoid, old enough to know a few things... good age."

Another laugh escaped her lips. "A good age for what exactly? Do you have a few ideas?" she offered a wink, fully facing him now.

She watched him as he drank, his own hard exterior softening to their game. His true colours, or so she believed to be his true colours, revealing. He wasn't so bad. Merely a soldier weary of the world. More weary than she, but weary none the less.

She laughed again at his next words, "You don't know what a dry spell is... I spent a little over a year in Africa. Now that was a dry spell." she chuckled, attempting to focus her gaze on the small glass before her, the lights rippling off of its surface.

"Ever been married?"

Chevy's face whipped to him, quite taken aback. She returned her gaze to her drink quickly. Deciding quickly on this one as she tipped the glass back, downing it in a mere second.

"What about you?"

He grinned at her questions after he had retorted to her age. "Leave the questions for the game, or you'll run out before I get the chance to see you pass out." He said egging her on a little bit. He was a man who had seen many battles, operations more than he would care to count and now he was here, searching for an old friend of his and chatting to a twenty six year old irish red head that enjoyed asking intimate questions. It wasn't all that bad.

"I know plenty about dry spells, but in africa, I'm certain you learned a few dances to make it rain" He couldn't remember the last time he flirted with someone without being in a place he knew.

No answer to his question however, he didn't quite expect this woman to be married and probably divorced at this age. That said, she just lost the game, he can't ask the same question twice but he could certainly keep asking on the same subject. It wouldn't be that fun to end this game so early in to it however, the bottle was hardly touched.

"Never been married, job didn't allow it." Which was true, Jack wasn't the kind of person that wanted the whole true love picket fence fantasy. He grew up in battle, he would stay there whether he wanted to or not.

"You're gonna lose this game Chevy." He said with confidence. "Worst place you've ever woke up naked?" Figuring it was a good question, he couldn't imagine she didn't have a story or two to tell about something like that.
