Niwa's Recent News
  • 19 April 2015 -- Niwa is under new management!

Niwa is now under new management as we strive to stand up the the standards of fun and entertaining roleplaying we have so far provided here at Niwa. Today makes the start of a campaign to bring in new members as Head Admin Akaiken and Support Admin Sparky work together to improve and uphold the current face of Niwa and keep us all moving forward!

They said this was a city for our kind, they said it was a safe haven from the rest of the world. This was suppose to be the city where we where safe from regular humans. But, in a city where Meta-Humans run rampant, is there such thing as safety? When taking what you want is as simple as waving your hand, or closing your eyes, how can there be law? In this city, the truth is there is only one source of law, and that are the different criminal organizations that have formed all around us. The only order is that of the darkest part of humanity, of criminal organizations where the strong thrive while the weak gasp for air. This is Niwa Nights.. This is our home.

Can you survive it?

The air throbbed with both the smell and sound of club goers and music. People both young and old partaking in beverage as they leaned on the barrier that fenced in the patio to the bar they were occupying. To most people at this time of night, you'd see the dim lights seeping from the entrance, little red cherry-lights from cigarettes dancing in the shadows as people waved their hands in conversation.

But to Chevy everything was clear as if someone had turned the sharpness up on an old television set. She had invoked the beast's eyes to see for her tonight, she wanted no surprises. She had herself convinced she were here on business. A bit of hearsay brought her to this boardwalk. Scanning faces and listening in on conversations as she walked. She searched for a man who frequented this boardwalk to make his less than admirable business dealings.

She knew as a part of Vanguard, she should apprehend him and bring him in, but her business tonight was personal. She had heard on the streets that this particular man had had dealings with her brother in the past. Or at least, she assumed when someone had mentioned a man from Ireland, the last name beginning with a "C" she figured she had nothing to lose.

The bar scene always made her a bit nervous, but not for her own safety, rather for others. Her beast liked to rear its head, and claws.. and sometimes teeth, if she were provoked. And sometimes there was little she could do to control it. Making a scene in the name of Vanguard wasn't on her list of things to do today. So her plan was to have a few drinks, keep her eyes and ears open, and try to relax, at least a little bit, so as not to look suspicious.

She had braided her hair down the side, tying it simply with a blue ribbon, her usual attire of a black tank top, and a pair of close-fitting blue jeans that had the beginnings of faded wear at the knees.

She made her way into a particular bar, her body twisting and turning gracefully through the crowd, only coming within a hairs breadth of another human, until her trek brought her to an empty bar stool within hearing distance of the entrance.

The barmaid greeted her without looking at her, filling shot glasses almost as quick as she effortlessly slid them down the bar without spilling a drop. Chevy wondered if perhaps that had been a process of trial and error, and how many angry customers it had taken to get it right.

She rested her elbow on the counter, head under her chin as she diligently began to observe the company she was keeping this night.

It hadn't been long since Jack arrived in Niwa, leaving all he knew behind in chase for his old friend and leader. Loyalty was something that should never change, no matter the rumors that surrounds said comrade. There are plenty of people here, no doubt some of them rather dangerous whilst others harmless, it's difficult to distinguish sometimes when all your life you've had a perfect distinction between the two through orders. Never question and do as ordered.

He looks around and finds a rather low-key establishment along the way, the place seems a bit more shady than most establishments but that generally means people won't ask too many questions. He moved towards the door and took a look inside before stepping in.

A thick layer of smoke mixed with the smell of liquor hangs in the bar as he strides towards the counter, this strong man wearing cargo jeans, combat boots and a thick jacket with a tank-top beneath. The colors are solely black and dark green and his boots stomp against the wooden floor before sitting down on his seat. He looks to his left to a rather interesting looking red-head before motioning to the bartender.

"Rum.. Double"says in a short and stern voice, placing some cash on the counter-top. From his pocket he takes out a small wooden box, opening it up are five thick cigars, possibly Cuban. Inside the box he takes out a small cutter and takes the tip from one of the cigars before placing it in his mouth and lighting it.

He turns to his left, giving another look at the red-head. "You look out of place here." He says more of a statement, seemingly not expecting an answer.

The sound of heavy boots upon the wooden floors caught her attention before the rather built man made his way next to her. She made a point to keep herself turned slightly away from him, her aloofness to be taken either as a way to avoid confrontation, or complete and utter disregard of him as a threat. He could take it as he liked, but with Chevy it was usually the latter.

She kept her eyes scanning the crowd, and her ears trained on him, listening for the slightest movement. The ruffle of clothing to reach a weapon, anything.

All she heard was him order himself a drink, and a stiff one at that as he opened a tin and the strong scent of tobacco assaulted her nose. Smoking had never been her thing, as her father smoked cigars growing up, and never any nice ones. Always cheap ones that he bought at market and made the whole house smell of a charred up funk.

However as she got accustomed to the scent, she found it wasn't unpleasant. Strong, but not overpowering. She dismissed it.

No sooner than had she put the man out of her mind, did he address her.

"You look out of place here."

Still she did not turn fully to him, as she had sized him up the moment he walked through the door.

"Says the man wearing nearly the same clothes as I am. A bit of the pot calling the kettle black, hmm?"

The bartender didn't take too long to get back with his drink, the glass didn't look exceptionally clean but who really cared, he didn't pick this place for its class. He took the glass in to his hand, wearing fingerless gloves and taking a whiff from the rum. It was cheap to say the least but it would do, he just wanted a drink, the journey here was long enough to warrant that.

He turned back to the woman after she answered him, first taking a gulp from his glass, looking her over once more, head to toe. "Isn't that the point?" He said in retort, he wouldn't have spoken to her if she looked like the average barfly. To be truthful he didn't speak to her for any particular reason at all, perhaps she seemed interesting and looked like she could be someone to share a drink with. All in all he did not much desire to fraternize too much with people here. He hadn't really thought up a plan to start searching for Gavin.

"Not from around here." It was hard to distinguish whether he was talking about himself or putting forth a statement about her but he didn't take any time to explain that anyway.

The bartender wasn't too busy, taking a look at the two after taking the money and putting back the change in front of Jack. He didn't really say anything either, perhaps because they looked so out of place. Behind them however there was some gambling going on, at least that's what he assumed it was when he got in, seeing people playing cards though not using anything more than peanuts to bet with. Jack didn't doubt however that they had placed value on them, they wouldn't be so competitive otherwise.

No one had come through the doors in quite some time, and she had heard nothing of interest within the bar that would warrant her full attention. She gave up, realizing now how silly of a lead it was in the first place. Turning to sit forward on her stool now, she turned her icey blues onto the man next to her. Freckles scattered across the bridge of her nose and along her cheeks, stray curls fringed loose from her braid. She looked every bit the irish woman she was.

"Care to elaborate this point?" she asked, her tone a tad less hostile than it had been before.

She tilted her head slightly as he mumbled his next words before shooting his rum back. She narrowed her eyes questioningly at him, deciding to assume the words were directed at her.

"Ireland." she stated firmly, as if her drawl hadn't made that apparent enough. She was good at hiding it when she was incognito or on jobs. But in this public bar her accent wasn't a priority to her.

"American, I'm assuming? What brought you to Niwa?" she paid no mind to her intrusive questions. She was not in the game of saving face to complete strangers.

Elaborate, he took a big whiff from his cigar and took another good amount from his glass before exhaling. She wanted him to elaborate on his words, pushy and perhaps unwilling to take chances by making assumptions. "We're both foreign, you take note." His answers were still short but he figured this should at least give some explanation, he didn't really care to speak more. Jack wasn't a man of many words but he spoke often enough, he often came across as a little distant and unpleasant in first impressions but he was an honest man with a compass that pointed mostly north, depending on the situation.

He takes another swig from his glass and finishes the drink ahead of schedule, motioning the bartender for another. The cigar is in his right hand between his thumb and index finger, tapping it occassionaly over the ashtray.

Red hair, freckles, he wasn't too surprised when she said she was from Ireland. "Figures. He said under his breath, simply thinking out loud, no obvious hostility coming from the muttered word. He wasn't too surprised when she called out his own nationality, it was probably obvious from his looks and accent, he didn't generally mind, no one he knew from Ireland would be looking for him anyway.

When she asked him about his purpose here however his expression changed a little, not certain about this woman, his expression becoming a little more wary. "Name your own first" He said, not sure yet if he even had any intent of revealing anything to her, but if she was willing to divulge her own he would at least get a clue of what kind of person she was or at least pretended to be.

Chevy felt a slight wave of irritation at this mans sudden clam-up. He had engaged her in conversation to begin with, now he wanted to be stingy on his own words. She stared him down for a few moments, examining his eyes, the lines in his face, the way he held his shoulders. This was a man who had seen many things and she could see that in his very posture.

She relaxed a bit, he was just rough around the edges like she was, nothing more. Though he did seem of military background. One doesn't pick up a smoking habit like that for nothing. Not to mention putting back straight liquor without a single grimace.

After tucking a few stray pieces of hair behind her ear, she weighed the merits of continuing this endeavor with this man. Though what could it hurt? Perhaps he had some info she could use. Seemingly a traveler, he may have heard something of her brother himself.

"I've been all across Europe looking for my brother who left home eight years ago. He's determined not to be found, and I'm determined to find him. I always win in our battle of wills," she paused to order a drink for herself, not to be outdone by this man as she tipped back her own shot of rum without flinching. There are two ways you learn to drink like that. Being in the military, or being born Irish. "Though the world is an awfully big place."

She ordered another shot, and finished it just as quickly. Starting to feel the familiar tendrils of warmth creep up her neck and add a slight flush to her face, she placed her hand on her thigh, idly toying with the dagger handle strapped there. No threat in her actions, just sitting still is something she found hard to do.

"Your turn G.I. Joe."

Well at least she seemed to have some sense when it came to people, she had made the right assumption about him so far and he could see it in her gaze, even if it did seem like he wasn't paying attention. The second glass didn't take long to be placed in front of him, placing another few bills on the counter without verbal exchange. "Shouldn't bother a man that doesn't want to be found, live and let live." It was something Jack truly believed, unless someone was his target he didn't feel like it mattered what they did, as long as they didn't bother him. Chasing after someone who didn't want to be found just because you want to be headstrong seemed juvenile to him.

"Big place, why not grow up?" He said, turning his thoughts to voice. He didn't want to get in to an argument but it seemed like the young woman was chasing nothing more than a ghost, who says he was still alive?

He did like her spirit though, accepting the drinking challenge and emptying his double shot of rum in a single swig. Ordering another as soon as he placed down the glass. "I'm here for an old friend." He figured it was the honourable thing to do, even if his answer revealed very little about who and why he was actually searching for said person.

His eyes were drawn for a moment to her dagger handle, checking the distance between them and she was close enough to him to harm him if she wanted to. He didn't think there was a reason for her to harm him however, no one was chasing him as far as he knew and he had been here too short a time for a pattern to be established. If someone was hunting him, it wouldn't be this coincidental of a meeting.

"You might not like what you find" He added, though not really following up immediately, showing his own thoughts had shifted back to her as a subject.

She did her best to keep pace with this man, putting back her drinks and sliding the shot glass back to the bar tender. She kept her eyes steady on him.

"Big place, why not grow up?"

Anger flashed from her chest and ran hot through her veins, she felt the claws in her hand begin to slide out as her biochemistry began the shift. She calmed it, breathing out and settling her emotions.

"The day growing up means giving up the fight, is the day I'll be sitting in your seat, I suppose." she shot back coolly, switching up her next shot for fireball.

She could feel her beast clawing from the inside to get out. The belittling of her life's mission thus far really struck a sore spot. Especially with the terms on which she and her brother had parted. She had to find him to make peace, or else she wouldn't be able to move on.

The struggle inside of her she was quite good at hiding, she kept her expression placid as she took the fireball whiskey and drained it. The heat searing down her throat, and giving physical form to the anger she felt.

Just like the whiskey, she swallowed the anger down and let it harden in her belly. If he wanted a fight, he could have one. However she wasn't here for that. And something about him told her he wasn't either.

His next statement proved her deductions true.

"I'm not expecting to like, or dislike what I find. My goal is only to find." she answered him. Leaving the heat out of her voice this time.

He had struck a nerve, that much was obvious and the glance she gave him made him think she was of the volatile sort. He didn't know what it was exactly that he sensed from her but he sensed that she could be dangerous when she wanted to be. He didn't think it was wrong what he said however, her answer only furthered that belief. She came across as a reckless young girl that had but a single belief that the rest of her was built upon and a single brick removed would make it all come tumbling down. "Once you're in my seat, you'll know you have experience." Perhaps he felt like pulling her out a little further, he wasn't generally a sadistic person and that was true in this case as well.

Jack simply figured that if she became more realistic she could move on with her life rather than hanging on to a purpose that might not even exist anymore, then again.. It wasn't really his problem anyway. He pulled back his sleeve and checked his watch, 1 PM already, it was late but he was more of a night owl anyway.

They both seemed to know how to hold their drinks though and even his face was getting flushed from the constant barrage of alcohol, which generally loosened him up. After half a dozen double shots of rum he loosened up enought to make somewhat of a joke. "That said, I've seen kids drink more than you, keep up." He came across as bolsterous in nature, showing a bit more kindness under the influence of booze.
