| They said this was a city for our kind, they said it was a safe haven from the rest of the world. This was suppose to be the city where we where safe from regular humans. But, in a city where Meta-Humans run rampant, is there such thing as safety? When taking what you want is as simple as waving your hand, or closing your eyes, how can there be law? In this city, the truth is there is only one source of law, and that are the different criminal organizations that have formed all around us. The only order is that of the darkest part of humanity, of criminal organizations where the strong thrive while the weak gasp for air. This is Niwa Nights.. This is our home. Can you survive it? Zane was out looking for trouble. It was something he did a few times a week, luring young offenders into trying to rob him before beating the living crap out of them to show them that a life of crime only gets you bruised kidneys. Ironic, considering that beating up street rats was a crime in itself. Zane didn't really care about the law. He cared about protecting the innocents of Niwa. The honest, hardworking people that struggled to make ends meet. If he focused the attention of the street thugs to himself, then maybe he could spare an innocent an encounter with someone dangerous. So far it had been a slow night. He hadn't encountered a single person and was inclined to give up and go home. As he walked past the night club he heard a commotion close by. As he went to see what was going on he saw a few gutterpunks trying to break open a vending machine. Zane shook his head with a frown. There was no way to see if these were criminals, or just really hungry homeless people. He approached with a smile. "That's no way to get something to eat. You can punch that thing all night and it won't budge. Let me pay." His voice startled the boys, and they all turned to look at him. There were five of them, and they all looked to be around 18-21. None spoke as Zane approached the vending machine and pulled out his wallet. He made sure they could all see inside as he opened it, revealing a thick wad of 10000 yen bills. It was a trick he had often used before. Revealing to hooligans how much money he had on him to try and trick them into attacking him. He pulled out a bill, and looked at the machine. He then seemed to have a realization. "Ah, silly me. This machine doesn't take 10000 yen bills. Oh, I know! There's a 24 hour store not too far from here. I can treat you all to something to eat and drink if you want. Follow me, I know a shortcut!" His voice was cheerful, almost bubbly. Even though he looked like a street thug himself, his voice and demeanor suggested that he posed no threat to anyone. He made his way to the alley behind the night club, and the boys followed, thinking that he was an easy target. The thought of taking that wad of cash from Zane was too tempting to not give it a shot. After all, they were five, and he was alone. As they followed him into the alley, the boys pulled knives out of their pockets. Zane turned his back towards them as he walked. The smartest thing to do would be stabbing him in the back right away. But like most gutterpunks in Niwa, these boys were idiots. One of them raised his knife and spoke. "Give us your money now." Zane turned to see all the boys with knives raised in the air. Mentally he smiled to himself, looking forward to showing them their place. Externally he sighed, scratching the back of his head, as if he were disappointed. "So that's how it's going to be. You try to do something nice for someone, and they want to take everything you have. Alright, if that's the case, then I'll accept your challenge. Take it from me if you can." His demeanor suddenly changed. He was no longer cheerful or happy. His eyes narrow, fists clenched, he looked menacing. Clearly a veteran fighter. But the boys were too tempted by the money to step away. They were this close. All that was standing in their way was one guy. |

Zane was happy to hear that Ando didn't really seem to care about money that much. His loyalty wouldn't be bought then, which was a great quality in an employee. "I'm certain we'll be able to come up with a work schedule that suits us both. Let's just exchange information and we'll sit down for a drink to discuss it some night you're not working here. The casino won't open for another week or so, so any night before then will be fine." He took another drag of his cancer stick and grabbed his phone, giving Ando his number and in turn saving Ando's in his phone memory. He then returned the phone to his pocket. "I suppose there's not much more to discuss tonight, so I'll let you get back to your work. Unless you have some questions for me?" |
