Niwa's Recent News
  • 19 April 2015 -- Niwa is under new management!

Niwa is now under new management as we strive to stand up the the standards of fun and entertaining roleplaying we have so far provided here at Niwa. Today makes the start of a campaign to bring in new members as Head Admin Akaiken and Support Admin Sparky work together to improve and uphold the current face of Niwa and keep us all moving forward!

They said this was a city for our kind, they said it was a safe haven from the rest of the world. This was suppose to be the city where we where safe from regular humans. But, in a city where Meta-Humans run rampant, is there such thing as safety? When taking what you want is as simple as waving your hand, or closing your eyes, how can there be law? In this city, the truth is there is only one source of law, and that are the different criminal organizations that have formed all around us. The only order is that of the darkest part of humanity, of criminal organizations where the strong thrive while the weak gasp for air. This is Niwa Nights.. This is our home.

Can you survive it?

"Thanks Jin, you spoil me!" A voice of joy echoed down the boardwalk. Laura and her neighboring store's owner, Jin, stood in the cold before the sun rose conversing. In her hands was a warm cup of coffee, the steam rising up and fogging up her glasses a bit. "You have a good day, I need to start getting things ready to open." Giving him a nod of her head, the brunette turned and made her way to her store.

Opening the front doors at seven AM was not normal for a comic book store. However, Laura had a reason for it. Students loved their comics, and she knew the earliest classes started at eight. It normally was a busy hour, between seven and eight, and then it began to slow down. However for some reason today was slow. She had a usual that was always there at seven sharp, but for some reason he hadn't showed up. Leaving her to clean the bookshelves, straighten the comic books, and rearrange the figurines. Pretty boring, to be honest.

Around the eight o'clock mark, and still with no customers, Laura took a seat behind the front counter and took a out a book and began flipping threw it. Blue jean jeggings, a green shirt, and white boots was this young shop owners outfit. There weren't many managers that would risk wearing something so casual, but did she care? Not really; in her opinion the way she dressed actually brought more customers into her shop. It showed that she was more in tuned with her geek side, and it connected with the kinds of people that made her shop run.

That and who doesn't want to buy comic books and gaming things from a hot girl?

"Who knew that Robin was originally planned to appear in one issue, and then possibly disappear forever. Glad that was changed." Laura chuckled softly, "Life without Robin would've been boring. It's what made Batman--" The bell at the top of the front door of her shop dinged and her head lifted. "Less humanized." Her words lowered in volume as she stood up and closed the book she held in her hand.

Setting the book down she came from around the desk and smiled. "Hello there~" Was she seeing an officer coming through her doors? Hopefully she hadn't done something wrong. Were they finally coming after her for what she had done? No... he wasn't a Federal Agent. They would be the only one with the authority to arrest her anyways.

He heard it the second he walked into the shop.

The hushed whispers, the attention darting towards him, it made the hair on his back stand on end. It was the exact same sequence of events that had happened when Operation Dresden had gone to shit. Kintaro kept his mouth for a second before realizing that of the few people who had actually turned their attention to him, one of them actually worked at this establishment. Dressed in a blue button-up shirt and black dress pants (with his NCPD Detective badge fixed onto his belt), Kintaro locked eyes with the young woman running the shop and gave her a somewhat sheepish nod. Did he say anything in response to her greeting? Not at first, but after a short hesitation, Kintaro spoke up and went on his way.

"Hey. I'm just going to take a look around."

And with that, Kintaro nodded and walked a little further back into the shop, taking a look at some of the smaller figures.

Biting her bottom lip when the man stayed quiet at first, Laura contemplated on moving back to her desk and waiting to see if he needed help. He wasn't a regular, nor did he look like someone that was interested in things like this. Handsome, a good career, probably a family-- maybe a gift for his son or daughter. The way he stood there, just how he carried himself, it spoke a lot about him and Laura could read it like an open book. Her vivid emerald eyes meeting his gaze, she took a deep breath and smiled at him. "Fantastic." Laura wasn't necessarily the best sales person, she just knew how to have good conversations with her customers.

Watching as he walked towards her and looked around she took a step in his direction and put her hands behind her back. "I've got comic books, figurines, board games, not too many videogames, but I do have some old school stuff." She continued to keep a smile across her face. Laura wasn't going to get too close to him, she along with a lot of others had that personal space, and she wasn't going to step into an officers bubble.

"If there is anything specific you're looking for.." Laura slid her hands into her back pocket. Hopefully he would get rid of her boredom because it was killing her slowly. "I'm sure I can be of some assistance."

"Nothing specific, but uh...maybe you could help me."

Kintaro caved the second he opened his mouth, realizing that he was dead wrong in thinking that he could get this gift without at least a little observation on his part. It had been a little while since he'd actually seen his little niece, so all he had to go off of was the last time he'd seen her, which just...wasn't helpful at all. Kintaro shook himself loose a little, trying to get rid of the little headache that was forming in his head, and tried to keep his focus on the young woman helping him. Upon a closer inspection of her, though, Kintaro realized that she had reminded him of someone he couldn't quite place. Still, she was very pretty, and hopefully she would be helpful too.

"I'm trying to pick up a gift for my niece. She's turning nine soon, and she's HUGE into reading. I haven't seen her in a while though, so I don't know what to go off of. What would you recommend?"

Laura was ecstatic, however not written on her face, that he was in need of assistance to find something. She nodded her head very lightly and took to a better distance between them. Her eyes shifting down the bookshelves of books, comics, figurines and other gadgets and gizmos. "By the way, my name is Laura." It was rude she hadn't introduced herself already, hopefully he didn't feel offended.

'I wonder if I'll have enough day light to go hiking tonight.'

She was at least correct about him being in there for a gift. He didn't strike her as the comic-geek. He gave her just enough information to go off of to find a good gift. Nine years old, girls were just coming into what they love and trying new things. She obviously must like some comic book aspect of reading or why else would he have come to a comic book shop. Laura didn't have a lot of so called normal books, but she was sure she had something to suit her needs. "Well let's see. Comic's aren't really so much for the reading, so we can stay clear of those." A small chuckle followed her words.

'Probably not, the sun's been going down relatively fast lately..' Laura seemed to be in a different world in her head. However it wouldn't show. She seemed pretty focused on her customer.

Moving along the lining of bookshelves, her fingers lined the wooden edges and her eyes scanned across the spiral ended books. "Do you know if she has a favorite hero? We could do, say, a book at him or her. Like Wonder Woman. I have a big book about her origin, her time with the Justice League, and other aspects of her life." She looked over her shoulder at him with a smile still across her face, "Something along those lines maybe?"

"I'm not sure if she's as familiar with the Justice League, but I know she's heard of The Avengers. She definitely likes Thor, but there's someone else I'm forgetting...the lady whose name I can't ever remember. With the red hair..."

It took him a second.

"Scarlett Johansson."

And he still didn't fully get it. Usually Kintaro was pretty good with names of characters, even when he hadn't seen that person in forever. Kintaro could still remember a good amount of the people he'd locked up for drunk driving, even from years back, but he couldn't remember the name of the woman from the avengers that he thought had a name something similar to a spider. Either way, it's something, and Kintaro went along with it because he figured the young woman knew who he was talking about. After a second of pause after that, however, Kintaro realized that she had introduced herself and he didn't even bother saying his own name.

"Kintaro, by the way."

It was obvious that this guy had no idea what he was doing. Which was completely alright. From time to time Laura would get the occasional dad that would walk around the store grumpy wondering why his kids liked that kind of thing. Thankfully Kintaro wasn't like that. He may not have a clue about the Avengers or Black Widow--the one that his niece was interested in--but at least he was friendly.

"We'll be looking for Black Widow then. She's got a history book that I think she'd love to read. It starts off with her time prior to being recruited by Shield and soon after joining the Avengers. It's a great read and she'll definitely find out stuff she didn't know before."
With that she moved across the shop over towards the Marvel wall. Her store was definitely organized, easy for someone with little to no knowledge of comics to make their way around and find what they needed. Big signs stating Marvel and DC hung over the bookshelves. There were other names such as Sony, which is a gaming/software company but for some reason owns some comic book heroes. They needed to be stated as such.

Once across the store, Laura bent down and rested on her knees and began looking through the books. When she heard the man's name, she looked over her shoulder and smiled. "It's a pleasure to meet you Kintaro. I'll try and make this as painless of a shopping trip as I can." It was a joke obviously. There was no reason he'd come to any harm in her shop.

Black Widow!

Kintaro made a mental note of the name, trying to associate that with Scarlett Johansson the next time he saw one of her movies (of which he's only seen three). Resting his hands on his belt as he followed Laura, Kintaro brushed the clip that held his badge in place and realized that he had walked in with it on and forgot to take it off. Removing the badge from his belt, he slid the badge into his pocket and hoped to keep it out of sight for the remainder of his stay, which shouldn't be too long. Kintaro's gaze had shifted from the wall over to young Laura, but turned his attention back toward what he had grabbed for him. Kintaro would still need a card to go with his gift, so he amde a mental note of that as well.

"Thank you."

It was a simple acknowledgment, but hopefully one that would work.

The man had little to say, which she couldn't complain about. Laura was a woman of little words outside of work, if he were to have pulled her from the street and tried to have a conversation with her she'd say hi and introduce herself, and awkwardly try and walk away. The irony of the situation was that she was the one trying to keep a conversation with the lone customer in her store. Boredom, loneliness, it played a part in her attitude at the moment. She'd had a lifetime of being alone, granted she loved the solitude that the wild offered her, but sometimes human interaction was needed to stay sane. God knows she had went crazy when it was only her father and herself.

"Here we go."
She said with excitement. Her hand pulling out a black and silver book that was wrapped in plastic. It was big, he could guess between seven to eight hundred pages--give or take. "And no need to thank me. I'm just doing my job." Sadly by her finding the book that meant he'd have to leave, unless he decided to stick around and buy something else.

"Seeing as its a gift, do you need a card? I also have gift bags too. I can set it all up for you if you'd like." It'd give her something to do. The bags were free, she got them every-so-often when new comics came out as an incentive to sell, sell, sell. The card wasn't though, but he had to know that. "And I know I seem super busy.." She gestured to the empty store that, should have, started playing cricket sounds. "But I think I have the time to get this ready for you." Laura stood up and lead the way to the front counter.

Who knew such a chipper soul was capable of the things she had done, the scars that lay under her clothes. On the surface she looked ordinary, plain even. Maybe it was why people never took the time to get to know her. The ordinary brunette with a cool job, she couldn't have anything to offer. In a way, Laura was thankful for it, but in another light she was hateful. She figured she'd fit in here in Niwa better, but ironically she is just as left out as she was back in the states.
