| They said this was a city for our kind, they said it was a safe haven from the rest of the world. This was suppose to be the city where we where safe from regular humans. But, in a city where Meta-Humans run rampant, is there such thing as safety? When taking what you want is as simple as waving your hand, or closing your eyes, how can there be law? In this city, the truth is there is only one source of law, and that are the different criminal organizations that have formed all around us. The only order is that of the darkest part of humanity, of criminal organizations where the strong thrive while the weak gasp for air. This is Niwa Nights.. This is our home. Can you survive it? "Scarlett ~ Tall chai latte with two pumps vanilla and soy milk." The familiar voice of the barista echoed into the red heads ears. Normally a smile and a thanks would follow the calling of her name but nothing came to the nice lady behind the counter. Holding her drink to her body she stepped from the coffee shop. The cold brisk air hissing against her skin. It was still winter time but at least the snow had began to disappear. Some corners of the street still had the white fluff, but other than that it hadn't fallen for a few days so there wasn't much to see. Eyes were on Scarlett as soon as she started walking down the Kogano Financial District's avenue. It was odd to see someone in a pencil skirt and short white button up during the middle of winter and at eight in the morning. It was barely over ten degrees, but yet she seemed comfortable. It was hard to miss her, that was for sure. The past couple of days had been rough beyond words. First the mission to kill the Empress had been unsuccessful, second her best friend Fiora had been killed in the battle, thirdly Fiora's boyfriend almost killed her and lastly-- no, she couldn't continue to dwell on what was going on. It was blinding her from what needed to be done in the future. Silas needed to be dealt with, Wraith still needed to be freed, the Empress needed to be killed and on top of all of that Fiora's funeral had to be done. How could one person take on so much and still be sane? Who said she was sane? "Excuse me ma'am are you registered to vote?!" These people with their clip boards. Sneaking up on individuals that aren't paying attention could get them hurt. Scarlett's fingers gripped at her drink, popping the top and busting the bottom of it completely open. The hot drink spilled to the ground, all over her hands and down her shirt. Jerking her head towards the man that now slowly backed way, teeth bare at him. Frustration for her drink, her hands engulfed in flames as she raised her fist as if ready to throw the first blow. "Come on now, you're more civilized then this." The voice of Fiora echoed in her ear. Her bright sapphire eyes shifted from the individual and glanced over the crowd that had surrounded her. Pyromancers were known for being hot headed, and this was just proving that indefinitely. Without a word or action, she dropped the fire in her hand and pushed past the people in her way and quickened her step into her office building. The drink that had spilled on her shirt had already dried, but a large brown stain was still visible down the front side. Thankfully she had assistance to get her a new shirt. Which, once she got to the top floor of the building, she called for Jessica to go and retrieve a new one for her. People knew not to question what was going on with Scarlett, and by the look on the red head's face it was obvious NOT to ask what was going on. Only her and Jessica were there that early, and when Jessica ran out of the office and took the elevator down, Scarlett pushed her butt against the secretary desk and let out a heavy sigh. Kicking off her heels she closed her eyes and took a deep breath. "Nothing comes easily for me, what a fucking curse..." She said between her teeth. Not hearing the elevator 'ding' off to her right. |

Zane had planned to enter that very same coffee house in his way to his Master's dojo for a sparring match. Well... His Master called it a sparring match. Zane called it getting-beat-up-by-an-old-guy-until-my-ears-bleed. Truly, it didn't seem to matter how fast Zane progressed, that he was three times younger, and was a 5th Dan Taekwondo practitioner, he still never managed to land a hit. It was like his Master had a meta ability of perfect martial arts. Zane smiled at the thought. This was Niwa, so anything was possible. He never reached the coffee shop. He got distracted by the sight of a young woman getting startled by one of those annoying clip board people and spilling her coffee. Usually Zane wouldn't turn his head twice at such a scene, except the woman's hands caught fire. That made it a lot more interesting. Either that was impossibly hot coffee, or a meta ability had been involved. Zane immediately blamed himself, thinking that he had caused the coffee to burst into flames. He had only just discovered his power and didn't really understand it yet, so he had no idea what his limits were. He had always needed a pre-existing flame to manipulate, but maybe that was no longer true. He then noticed the look on the woman's face. She didn't seem surprised at all. Zane furrowed his eyebrows. Was he looking at a meta with a similar ability to his own? Clearly he was, because the woman put out the flames with a drop of her arms, and stormed off. Zane pursued. Of course he did after what he'd witnessed. That woman seemed to be in perfect control of her fire abilities. Zane needed to talk to someone like that. He liked his new found power, but he worried that he might lose control of it. He could set someone he cares about on fire by accident, like his Master or Maho. Maho was in greater danger of that than anyone since her meta ability amplifies other abilities around her. The woman entered an office building. She took the elevator to the top floor, so clearly this woman was of some importance. Probably the owner of a small business or something. Zane didn't care about that, all he wanted was to talk about her power. He got on the next elevator and went to the top floor. He clearly didn't belong inside this building wearing his leather vest and torn punk-looking jeans, but no one would dare talk to this street thug-looking young man to ask him what his business was. He finally found the woman, resting against the secretary desk. So Zane had been mistaken. She was just a secretary. "I need to know about your meta ability." It was a statement, pure and simple. He had clearly only come for this one purpose, and wasn't going to beat around the bush. He looked the woman in the eyes, and adjusted the motorcycle goggles on his forehead. The elevator already? That couldn't be her secretary. Jessica wasn't that fast, even if Scarlett had hoped she was. There weren't any scheduled appointments for a few hours, and Wraith never used the front door. So when her eyes trailed off and met with the red head that walked out of the elevator, surprise covered her expression. This man did not deserve to be standing in her office. "Do you have an appointment?" There was little pause between her raising her hand and speaking once again, "No, a street rat like you would have no business here." Leaning off the desk she slipped her heels back on and adjusted herself. It was then that he demanded, not asked or even try to sugar coat it, about her powers. He must've been in the crowed that had seen her flame on. Thankfully he wasn't the one that startled her enough to shower herself with her hot tea. The hot tea, that she should add, she'd not be able to drink now. Her eyes squinted, and her hands rested at her hips. "Please excuse yourself from my office." The sounds of the second elevator opening and Jessica rushing out of it with a clean button up rushed past the man. It wasn't like she needed to go and buy one, they had many floors with techs that had clean shirts on. "Jessica, we need new security downstairs. Who lets..." Her hands moved up to the buttons on her shirt and she began to undo them. "People like him up into my office. Who?" Jessica looked afraid, to be honest. The fear in her eyes was that whatever was going on with Scarlett was about to come down on her. Jessica was her, like, seventh secretary within the first month. Giving the man one more look before she tossed the shirt onto her secretaries desk and taking the clean one, she moved off towards her office. This would be the moment that, if the man looked across the door, it would read 'C.E.O. Scarlett Rose Yung.' and above that, 'Polar Cengage Inc' any gambler would know that it was the company that ran one of the biggest gambling websites in the world. It made millions, even billions. "Jessica!!!! Get me a tea, now!" Were the last words before she slammed her door. Sadly it bounced back open, leaving it cracked. |

Zane couldn't believe how rude the woman was. No secretary would dare speak like that to someone. Zane was quick to anger, and this woman was pushing all the wrong buttons. Calling him a street rat right of the bat was usually enough to send Zane flying. But before he had a chance to reply the woman disappeared into what was clearly her office. Zane noticed the company name on the door, and could hardly believe his eyes. Polar Cengage Inc. It was an extremely famous site within the gambling community. Zane had always been rich, but he had added substantially to his funds with gambling. He was a gambler at heart, and loved the feeling of adrenaline coursing through his veins when the stakes were high. The alias he used on Scarlett's site was Blaze. He had chosen the name years before he awoke his meta ability, which now seemed ironic given what his ability was. Of all the office buildings in Niwa, he had stumbled into the only one where his alias actually meant something. After all, Blaze was among the top gamblers on her site. It would only take her a second to look him up and see his impressive gambling history on her site. He looked at the secretary, who was clearly called Jessica, and despite still being angry, put on a apologetic smile. "Sorry about the intrusion. I'm not looking for any trouble. I'll pay for her tea, and if you could get me one while you're at it I would greatly appreciate it. Whatever she's having will be fine." He pulled his wallet out of his pocket, and opened it. There was a wad of 10000 yen bills so thick it barely fit inside. Jessica would see that this was no street rat, no matter how he was dressed. He pulled out one 10000 yen bill and handed it to her. "Please, keep the change." With that, he entered Scarlett's office. Her threats and insults still burned in his mind, but now that he knew who she was it was easier to let it slide. Scarlett Rose was a legend in the gambling world. Young, beautiful and powerful, she puts other gamblers to shame. Zane made sure to properly close the door before speaking. "There's no reason to be rude. I realize I may have sounded a bit demanding, but you were outright rude and offensive. That's no way to treat a loyal customer. I am one of the top ranking members of your website. I go by the alias Blaze." The alias should have been enough. If she paid attention to her site she would know the aliases of all her top members. "But that's actually not why I'm here. I had no idea what building this was or who you are until I saw the name on the door. It's just a strange coincidence that we happen to be connected through your site." He slid his hands in his pockets and made his way to her window, looking outside. He clearly had no intention of leaving anytime soon. "I saw what you did out there. That's an impressive ability. I have a similar one myself, and I need someone to teach me to properly control it. I've only just discovered my meta power so I don't have a complete grasp on it yet. Of course I'm more than willing to pay you for your time." |

"Uh.. Okay?" Jessica was completely confused on what was going on. All she knew was that she wasn't going to get between this guy and Scarlett. So she sat at her desk and got to her daily routine. She knew the CEO and her abilities to remove individuals from the premises. She didn't need security... Then she remembered THE TEA! And got up and ran into the other room. Once Scarlett put on her shirt she heard the door close behind her, and she whipped her head around. Was this guy asking to die? Scarlett's eyes fixated on him. A twitch even captured her stare. Frustration, that would probably be the best emotion she was feeling. It was like everyone was trying to fuck her. He, bribing her secretary with money, forcing himself into her office, and having the gull to call her rude. "If you cannot handle how I address you then you are in the wrong city. Niwa is a shit storm and you are in the heart of it." Pulling her chair back with force she plopped down and crossed one leg over the other. "Suck it up." It didn't matter either that he was one of her most prized gamblers. He had spent upwards of a million dollars on her website, but he had also one just as much back, so it made him loyal. "Believe it or not I treat everyone like this, you've just caught me on a even worse day." There was a slight pinch of sarcasm in there. She was definitely laying it on him without giving care to his feelings. But let's be honest, if Scarlett were any other way she wouldn't be the woman she is today. It was a man's world, whether people liked to be ignorant and think otherwise, it was true. She had bitten the heads of the highest of politicians, federal agents, and even some CEO's in her life, and she survived. A man walking into her office wasn't going to suddenly make her a walk in the park. Especially one that demands something, forces himself into her office, and continues to demand things. Taking a deep breath she leaned back in her chair and watched as he roamed her office. Taking to the window that had a beautiful view of downtown Niwa. "Strange, unwanted, connection. But strange never the less." The man, Blaze, continued to speak of her powers. She wasn't shy about them, nor was she trying to hide them. Until the government forcefully banned the use of abilities, and even then it wouldn't be likely she'd stop using them, she'd never be afraid to show them off. Yet, to some extent, Scarlett was humble about her powers--and sometimes her money (sometimes). "You saw my hands burst into flames, you think that's impressive then you aren't capable of handling what I have to offer." Again there was a taunt in her voice, followed but an insulting laugh. "Trust me when I say I don't need money. Plus, I'm not for sale." Crossing her arms under her chest she raised an eyebrow at him. "Though I'll give you a lesson here and now, don't stand next to a window so high up. Especially when there is a hot headed pyromancer that obviously dislikes your presence." If he looked at her there was a jester-like smile across her face. Men were so use to getting what they wanted from women... It'd be a harder sell for her. "Also," Licking her lips she sighed and rested her head back. "All pyromancers are different, the odds that you--if you even are anything remotely similar to me--and I are in the same category of pyromancers, are pretty slim to none." Scarlett sounded like a CEO of a big company. Even if she wasn't looking at him, her words were direct and he'd feel the power behind them. "Did you even consider that? Or was it just the breasts and fire that said 'let me follow this one and see what she can do for me?'" She... was a bitch let's be honest. How she'd ever get a man was beyond her. |

Zane couldn't help but crack a smile at her words. Now that she was deliberately trying to piss him off, it was close to impossible. Zane had dealt with her type many times before. Types who relied on their quick wit and insults to get people out of their hair. She even went so far as to accuse him of chasing her just because she was a woman. Zane couldn't care less about her gender if he tried. Besides, he was spoken for. Maybe. Was he? He and Maho hadn't exactly had that conversation yet, but until they did Zane was going to assume that they were at least more than friends. Without asking if it was ok for him to smoke inside her office, he grabbed a cigarette and bit down on the filter. He lit it with his zippo, and took a drag. "First of all, get over yourself. Assuming that I followed you here because I want to get in your pants is not only vain, but incredibly narcissistic. Believe it or not not all men want to have sex with every woman they see. Your status, looks and money mean nothing to me, so if you were hoping for a physical relationship you're going to be greatly disappointed. Second of all, I've never met another pyromancer before so I have no idea how different our powers can be. If they turn out to be on the opposite sides of the pyrokinetic spectrum then I'll be disappointed, but it won't ruin my life. I'm sure I'll be able to discover my limits on my own. And thirdly, I'm not worried about you throwing me out the window. I doubt you'd be able to. I am very confident in my fighting abilities, so unless you have a gun stashed away in your desk I doubt you could take me. And if you do have a gun in your desk, which I find highly likely, and if you do intend to shoot me, then I guess we'll find out which one of us has a better reaction speed." Zane spoke with a confidence beyond his years. It was clear that he was no street rat, and had more life experience than many men twice his age. He walked over to her desk and sat down opposite her, taking another drag of his smoke. "As much as I enjoy clever retorts and witty banter, I would appreciate if we could skip over the rest and get straight to my request. I have a previous engagement that I wish to get to before the day is out. I know you don't need money, but I'm still willing to pay you a substantial amount if you're willing to teach me how to control my pyrokinetic power. You speak of pyromancers as if you have experience dealing with them, so even if our powers are different I'm sure you can teach me something. If you're unwilling to help me all you need to do is say so, and I'll be out of your hair." Zane couldn't help but notice how similar he and Scarlett were. She appeared to be at a similar age to him. They both had red hair, both were half Caucasian and half Japanese, they were both hot-headed and both had pyrokinetic powers. If Zane didn't know better he would think they were twins separated at birth. Of course that couldn't be true, but the resemblance was indeed striking. He just hoped she would see it too, as it could help in convincing her to help. He glanced at the door, wondering how long it would take Jessica to bring them their teas. Maybe she was too terrified to enter. |

Scarlett couldn't blame him for getting angry with her. She hadn't been implying he was chasing after her to get into her pants, just more stating the fact she was a woman and that was why he decided to follow her. Whatever the reason, pyromancer or not, Scarlett had to respect how he responded. Not many would talk back to her like he did, and for good reason, most of them would burst into flames the second they spoke to her like that. Maybe she had seen enough death the last few days that she didn't want to put someone into a body bag. There were many elements as to why she didn't forcefully remove him from her office... After he spilled his heart out, so to say, and sat in front of her, Scarlett opened her mouth to speak when she heard a knock at the door. Turning her head slightly she spoke, "Come in Jessica." Taking a deep breath she scooted her chair back and stood up. "I'll be right back, Blaze." Addressing him by his alias on her website was the only name that was given to her. So for now, that's what he'd be addressed as. Taking off into a corner room, which could be assumed was a restroom of some sort, Scarlett disappeared. Jessica took her place in the eyes of Blaze. Beautiful blond with blue eyes and freckles. The young secretary didn't look like she belonged in an environment like this. Her hands were a bit shaky as she put down a cup of nice hot tea in front of the man and went around and set one at Scarlett's side. Jessica's eyes shifted to the man sitting at her bosses desk. "She was better a few days ago." For some reason Jessica began to talk to him. "When I first started working here she was just like this... but something changed her." Her words were low so that Scarlett couldn't hear her through the door. "She became pleasant. Nice to be around. But the loss of her only friend and almost being killed caused her to flip a U-turn." The blue eyed secretary shrugged her shoulders. "Seeing as though she didn't throw you through the window, which trust me she's attempted to do to others, means she sees some reason to keep you here." Maybe it was her way of trying to not have the office blow into a fiery hell or that she hated when Scarlett screamed. But maybe it would get across to Blaze that Scarlett wasn't always this unpleasant to be around. The sound of the door reopening and Scarlett emerging caused Jessica to jump and scurry back to her desk in the front office. The red head's sapphire eyes gazed at Blaze for a moment before focusing on her tea. Silence all but held the room, but only for a moment-- wait. Is he smoking in her office? How had she missed that? He was really running a thin line with her. Raising her hand she snapped her fingers and fire ignited in her hand. "Don't smoke in here. Period." The fire was then tossed at his cigarette, completely burning it to the bud~ almost to his lips. "Don't disrespect my place of work. Now.." "Without burning my office to the ground can you show me your pyro abilities?" Her voice was stale, but at least he was getting somewhere with her. Scarlett took to her seat, picked up her cup of tea and waited. |

As Jessica entered with their cups of tea, Scarlett excused herself and entered what Zane could only assume was a lavatory. She called him Blaze, reminding Zane that he had yet to introduce himself. How very rude of him. Still, there was time to make up for it. Jessica explained to him why Scarlett behaved the way she did. It made him feel bad about returning her jabs. Still, he couldn't have known, so he didn't really have anything to apologize for. He nodded at Jessica, grateful that she had told him, even though it was none of his business. She wasn't a very good secretary if she blurted her boss's secrets to everyone who wasn't thrown out her window. Still she was beautiful, which may even it out. Jessica exited the office when Scarlett returned. She was clearly terrified of her boss. It made Zane wonder why she was working for her. Maybe the pay was too good to refuse. He turned his head to see Scarlett, only to have her throw a fireball at his face. He could have dodged, or even redirected the fireball with his ability, but he didn't. He knew the fire wouldn't hurt him, and him smoking in her office had clearly been an insult of some kind. He removed the bud from his mouth and placed it on the small plate under his tea cup, before taking a sip. "Sorry, I should have asked first." He put down the cup. She asked him to reveal his ability. He scratched the stubble on his chin. Sure, he could show her, but would he be in perfect control? Impossible to tell. Still, there was no harm in trying. No harm to the two humans in the room at least. He assumed that Scarlett's skin was also impervious to heat. And he could always buy her a new chair or desk if it came to that. He stood up and took a few steps back so that he was standing in the center of the office. "I haven't done this many times before, so if I screw up, I apologize in advance. Oh, and my name is Zane. Zane Kazama. I'm sorry I didn't introduce myself earlier." With that, he pulled his zippo out of his pocket, and opened the lighter. He turned the wheel, making a small flame appear. He increased the flame to the size of a basketball, and made it hover in front of him. He then closed the zippo and put it back in his pocket, still staring at the fireball floating in front of him. He put out his hands, and concentrated harder, splitting the fireball into two equally large fireballs. "I seem to always need a pre-existing fire to manipulate, but even the glow of a cigarette is enough for me to work with so it's never really a problem. I control them with my mind, but I find it easier when I move my hands as well. Maybe it's a reflex thing. Not many people have seen me do this, as I don't really do it often." He made the two basketball-sized fireballs float in a few circles around him before combining them into one again, still keeping the size the same, not wanting to set a larger fire in her office in case he lost control. "Any thoughts?" Edited by Impulse, Jan 29 2014, 07:50 PM.

Scarlett leaned her head back and sighed. It was going to smell like cigarette's in here for a few hours, maybe she should get Jessica to light a candle. No, that was too much effort. She just wanted to see what this guy had to offer, and when he burned down her office she had an excuse to throw him out the window. Thankfully it didn't come to that though. His abilities were similar to her, however what kind of pyromancer couldn't summon and cast fire from their own body? Scarlett hadn't met a pyro-user that couldn't create their own fire. So that right there intrigued her. In a way, she wondered if his body could produce it but he just didn't know how. Maybe he didn't want to. It was a question she'd need to get answered, well, that was if she decided to help him. Something else that stood out to her was that he decided to create a fireball, the most generic thing that a pyromancer could do. It wasn't difficult to create that, so why would he choose something so simple. Why not try to impress her and go to any lengths to get her to want to train him? Was he really this bad? "First off, boring." The red headed CEO laughed a bit. She was beautiful, but god her attitude was ugly. "Secondly, I cannot believe you can't create your own fire. That bothers me. What kind of pyromancer can't do that?" In all honesty, she seemed more hurt then disappointed. Feeling bad for someone wasn't normally her thing, but it seemed as though she had that feeling for this man. Clearing her throat and taking a deep breath she crossed one leg over the other and spoke. "What exactly do you want from me? Do you want me to teach you to create your own fire? Do you want me to teach you how to control it when you summon it? In all honesty you seem to have some control over it, why can't you train yourself? Why do you need another pyromancer?" |

Tsk... This woman was a button pusher. Calling his ability boring perplexed him, as it was a very similar ability to her own. Had he done something wrong? She continued by saying that 'proper' pyromancers are able to create fire from their own body. Zane wasn't able to do that. At least not yet. His power might progress to that in the future, but currently he needed a pre-existing flame to manipulate. He felt for Scarlett. Losing a close friend is anything but easy, but it doesn't give you a free bitch-pass, no matter who you are. He was regretting seeking her out like this. He made the fireball disappear and slid his hands in his pockets. His expression was hard, his eyes slightly narrow. He was trying to figure Scarlett out. Did she get some kind of sick pleasure out of offending other people, or was it just the grief talking? Jessica had mentioned that she had been like that before, so it was probably just a part of her personality. In some ways Zane could relate. He often looked down on people, and he was hot-headed, rash and sometimes rude. But he always gave people the benefit of the doubt first. That clearly wasn't Scarlett's thing. "I am perfectly capable of training myself, and if you refuse to be a part of it that's exactly what I'm going to do. In fact it's starting to sound a lot better than the alternative considering your... Charming personality. I followed you in her because of curiosity. I was actually happy to find someone with a similar power. Someone I could possibly relate to and have an honest conversation with. I don't need another pyromancer, and I certainly don't need condescension. Before I saw you I thought I was the only one with a fire-related ability. I figured maybe you thought so too. I thought you might be happy to learn otherwise, but I was clearly wrong, so I guess there's no point in me staying." He was getting angry. He tried to control his emotions, but her arrogance and elitist-esque personality bugged him to no end. How anyone could be friends with the woman was beyond him. Zane had a short fuse to begin with, and she had lit it very quickly. He made his way to the office door and opened it, turning his head to face her once more. "Thank you for your time. This is clearly something I have to deal with alone." He exited her office, and didn't bother to close the door behind him as he walked past Jessica's desk. When he looked at her she almost didn't dare looking back at him, as she probably suspected that the meeting hadn't gone well. |
