| They said this was a city for our kind, they said it was a safe haven from the rest of the world. This was suppose to be the city where we where safe from regular humans. But, in a city where Meta-Humans run rampant, is there such thing as safety? When taking what you want is as simple as waving your hand, or closing your eyes, how can there be law? In this city, the truth is there is only one source of law, and that are the different criminal organizations that have formed all around us. The only order is that of the darkest part of humanity, of criminal organizations where the strong thrive while the weak gasp for air. This is Niwa Nights.. This is our home. Can you survive it? Despite the cold Chinatown was as busy as ever, Nami's senses were assaulted by all the noise, lights, and a god awful smell. It was around sundown and there was no shortage of shady looking figures hiding in the shadows of the alleyways. In the middle of it all was a girl , fair skinned, blonde hair, gray eyes, and a light gray coat that screamed designer; she stood out like a sore thumb. She walked down the street with a determined smile. She had something she wanted and now knew where to find it. Something that was worth the trek to this filthy part of Niwa. She stopped at a small shop that sold furniture... or at least that's what it claimed to sell. Down in the basement though there was a variety of black market goods stolen from all over the world and brought into this little dingy basement to be sold for obscene amounts of money. The man had seemed surprised to see such a 'good girl' come into his shop but he seemed pleased with the deal she offered him. What she wanted wasn't even all that hard to get really, not for him at least. A Japanese koto, a good one at that. Satisfied she paid him and took the handle of the shiny black case. God she couldn't wait to play it. After their transaction Nami slipped back out onto the street, it was dark now and chilly but the streets still held many people, though this crowd wasn't exactly the image of upstart citizens... Nami made her way through the crowd anyhow, hopefully nothing too crazy would happen... Edited by Namida, Jan 14 2014, 02:34 PM.

Jin Tsui huh? She'd have to see if Tatsou-san knew the name. She obediently followed the man with a pleasant smile of her own to match his. In retrospect she probably should have pretended to be at least a little bothered by his appearance, most sweet innocent girls would be. Jin was a pretty intimidating guy. Well too late for that, and she wasn't too good at keeping up the scared damsel act when she wasn't scared. And after training with Eiji few things scared her anymore. She genuinely chuckled at Jin's fake accent. Maybe they would get along after all. As long as he didn't try to force his way in her shorts or up her blouse. Then he gestured to an absolutely beautiful building. Her eyes lit up with a sense of awe. It had been a while since she was last taken to such a nice place. Being busy in human trafficking and drug smuggling and that sorts of shit doesn't leave a lot of time for dating or anything. As she followed him in they were greeted by a kind looking elderly lady. "Nín hǎo, huānyíng guānglín jùn fā huāyuán, nǐ jīntiān zěnme yàng?" Before Jin could respond Nami would bow and smile to the old lady "Hěn hǎo" her accent barely noticeable. It would be obvious that Mandarin Chinese was not a new language to her. |

Delighted, Jin threw his hands in the air. His eyes widened and a genuine smile delighted across his face. "What's this? You speak Mandarin?!" He laughed, still amused. He looked at the girl with a new light of admiration and respect. if there's ever any way to impress a population that clung so tightly to their national identity, it was to speak their language. Jin laughed heartily as he watched the exchange between the hostess and Ami. She was full of surprises, it seemed, and Jin wanted to know more about her. His eyes motioned from Ami's eyes to her lips when she spoke, then back down her small frame to the instrument she had just purchased. He took a step forward and gave a look to the hostess. "We'll take the room overlooking the courtyard, a-jie; this is my guest today." Jin's words superceded anything that Ami would request. The perks of being one of the owning powers, after all. "I can take us there. Just bring tea." The hostess nodded and forwarded the commands to the waiters waiting by the stairwell. Jin shifted his attention from the hostess to Ami, his young tea party guest for the afternoon. "Come with me, Ami. What kind of tea do you like, anyways?" He asked, leading the girl up the wooden stairs leading to a spacious room with glass walls. They overlooked the outdoor seating area at the side of the building where a beautiful fountain and pond lay, but the tables were packed up and the seats stowed away due to the inclement weather. Rather than lush green, the view only held a sea of white and the dirty gray of the city beyond its walls. In the room there was a lone circular table with two chairs arranged. Off to the side, perpendicular to the view was a small stage. "Please." Jin gestured to the chair on the left, hinting that he would only sit down once his guest did first. |

At Jin's reaction Nami jumped in surprise. Shit... she should have probably not done that, sure every kid in Japan knew some sortta english, you had to take it all through school for christ sakes. But Mandarin... that was something entirely different. Oh well too late now, he seemed delighted so she switched from the japanese they had been using to Mandarin. "Ah yes, my father insisted I learn." She said looking a little embarrassed. That's when she noticed his gaze, her cheeks tinted pink and she looked down at the floor. God she was not good with the male attention she had been getting since her arrival in Niwa. Once again she obediently followed Tsui-san, letting him guide her up the stairs to wherever they were going. As the began climbing she wondered to herself it this really was such a good idea, letting a strange man take her into a room away from the crowds, sure they were in a restaurant but it wouldn't be a far stretch to say that Tsui-san probably had a lot of influence not just in this building but in this area, hell she wouldn't be surprised if he owned this place. Restaurants were good covers for illegal gambling houses or fighting rings. Suddenly she realized he was speaking. "Ah... green please, that would be good" she said with a smile. Finally they reached their destination, a beautiful and spacious room. Nami had seen a few like it back in the days of the Somoto-gumi. Had they been this big? this empty? Nami could easily remember being a young child surrounded by drunken men and half naked to fully nude women, there was much music and laughter and the smell of sake and tobacco was everywhere. Soujiro Somoto had loved to indulge himself in that way, Nami always by his side, his most prized possession, the beautiful child born of him and an unnamed whore. He himself wasn't much of a looker, that was probably why he took such pride in Nami's beauty. She would usually fall asleep before it got too bad, that or Soujiro would eventually have Shunsuke take her away. It was a fucked up childhood sure but being in this room, she couldn't help but miss them. Jin's voice snapped her out of her little trance and she smiled nervously. "ah yes thank you." she managed out before taking her seat, setting the koto on the floor beside her. Her gray eyes shifted and stared out the window at the white snow covering the garden. It really was beautiful. |

The tea kettle was brought promptly, and Jin in turn showed off what a wonderful housewife he could've been had he not been born with the ability to hurt others well enough and the audacity and ambition to climb the ranks. Oh, and if he were actually born a woman, too. He lightly placed his fingertips along the base of the kettle, gauging the heat of the contents inside. It was aromatic to say the least--Jin had become more and more a fan of green tea with each year spent in Niwa. His body wanted to reject for his own illogical sense of national pride, but eventually he caved in. When in Rome, as they say. Jin tipped the kettle over and let a steady stream of green tea fill Ami's cup. He followed that with the filling of his own. "Are you from this city, Ami? I don't mean to be rude, but it does not seem like you are from here at all." |

Part of Nami died when she saw Tsui-san begin to serve the tea. Years of breeding and training screamed out at how wrong it was. Tsui-san was obviously an important man, Sure Nami had no idea who he really was but he seemed important. She should be the one serving him tea, not the other way around. Still she forced a smile and thanked him quietly using the Chinese he seemed so fond of. Surely somewhere in the after life Soujiro Somoto hung his head in shame. "Are you from this city, Ami? I don't mean to be rude, but it does not seem like you are from here at all." Ah shit... She hadn't really expected him to ask any personal questions, she figured she'd get here, play, listen to him talk about how awesome he was (powerful men often liked to brag about said power to pretty girls like her) and then leave. But here Tsui-san was actually asking about her like he cared... and here she was without a well thought out lie. Well time to wing it, she decided on using Mandarin instead of Japanese as well, Making him happy was the better option. "Ah, no... Actually I'm from... Sapporo..." yeah that sounded good, no doubt a Chinese man like him wouldn't be able to tell that she spoke with an Osakan accent rather than a Hokkaido one. "Just felt like i could use a change of pace." she said with a smile. "What about you Tsui-san? been here long? what do you do here anyways?" |

". . . been here long?" It was an honest question that Ami surely did not mean to cause such distress in Jin, but he took the moment to reflect upon his time in Niwa thus far. There was a solid decade of troubles and back-breaking work. It was hard to believe but the majority of the scars on Jin's face were all earned from his time here in Niwa. Most of them were his own fault, though. He had pushed buttons of people who were more touchy and violent than they were not. Others... others were given to Jin as a reminder. The one that seemed to ache the most as of late was the one drawn across his cheek, through his nose, and up toward his forehead. It was the one given to him by the same woman he was at war with: The Empress. "It's been a little over ten years, I think. Maybe twelve." he answered nonchalantly, as though the question posed by the girl had not stirred up old thoughts. "It's only really been my home--I mean I've only accepted it as my home--maybe four years ago. Once you come from China, it's hard to fit in. The Japanese are a very selective people." Niwa had a much higher minority presence when compared to most of Japan, but the homogeneous people and mentality were still going strong. The Yakuza made sure of upholding that. Then again, the Chinese were not much better. They had forcibly banished themselves within the shingled walls of Chinatown the moment they had decided to make war with the Yakuza. The Chinese had challenged centuries of tradition and rule, and in turn were torn apart after failing to dethrone the king. Still, it was home for Jin. ". . .what do you do here anyways?" It was a callous way of addressing Jin, he felt. However, there was no harm meant in it. The girl was already willing to go so far as to speak to Jin in a language that he was far more comfortable speaking in. He was able to forgive as much. Plus, he found it hard to really put a good-looking girl in her place. "What do I do?" Jin repeated Ami's words, pondering on each syllable as though there were some other meaning behind it. What did he do? Extortion. Drug trafficking. Human trafficking. Weapons smuggling. Oh, and he definitely sped whenever he was behind the driver seat. His wrinkled scars complemented his smile. He took a sip of his tea, then placed the cup gently on the red table-clothed table. "I'm an investor, I guess you could say. I dedicate resources to projects that I think are beneficial to me, this town, and my small group of partners. I guess you could compare us to a bank." His hand gestured in a circular pattern, helping to instill the image that this was trivial. "But that's just boring business talk. Come." He moved his arm and led his pointed fingers direct Ami to the vacant stage (a very modest one at that, only being 6 inches above the ground). "If you don't mind, Ami, I've been waiting to hear what kind of music you can play." Ami was a beauty, and because of that Jin had built the image that she were an even more beautiful musician. It was time for her to prove him right or wrong. |

Tsui-san was silent for a moment, he seemed to be in deep thought. She allowed her eyes to go over the scars she had carefully avoided staring at earlier, he was too wrapped up to notice her gaze...probably. So many, Tsui-san had definitely seen a lot of action, scars like those came with experience. Most people would fear him for them but she had a deep respect for those sorts of wounds, she had seen many men under her father's guidance earn similar scars. They were not markings of evil or bad intentions, no they spoke of hard work, perseverance, struggle, and loss. She saw them as something be admired, not feared. Then he spoke breaking her out of her thoughts. Her eyebrows raised slightly when he expressed how long he had been there, and for a moment she wondered how old the man was. She had never asked his age but figured he was roughly what Shunsuke should have been were he still alive. Which would be near his thirties, ah well that made sense didn't it? then he would have come in his late teens, typically the time people get involved in the the line of work she assumed Jin Tsui-san to be in. How old had she been then... man ...Twelve years ago she was still a girl living in her father's home. He then went on to address he other question... oh... he didn't look exactly happy, maybe she had been said something wrong? it had been a while since she had last used Chinese this much... but he answered anyways. Investor huh...? Sounds liek something papa would have said... She couldn't help but smile, the sort of smile that lets on you know things. Like a bank huh? probably more like a loan shark. She widened her smile and nodded at his request, standing gracefully. Her fingers reached up and removed her hat, which she placed on her seat. She ran her fingers through her hair a few time before grabbing it and twisting it up into a quick bun. She then pulled a pin from her pocket and shove it in keeping the hair from her face. Her finger then went up to unfasten her coat, she slid it off her shoulders to reveal cream colored sweater underneath, the kind that wrapped tightly around her bosom and showed off her slender pale shoulders. After Laying the coat on the back of the chair she picked up the koto and set it upon the stage, her back now turned to him. "You, Tsui-san this is my first time playing for someone in a very long while." she said with a nervous laugh as she bent over the koto, setting it up to play. "So I ask you forgive me if I mess up here and there." Finally ready she knelt down beside it and bent over the instrument, up cam her hands and she began to play. Her eyes were so focused, her attention fully on her task yet there was a smile on her face as she played, this was home for her, a reminder of how life had been, how it should have continued to be. |

"Please." Jin's arm gestured once more toward the stage. Ami obliged kindly--the nice girl that she was--and set herself up. To Jin, her performance had begun the moment she stepped foot in the restaurant. Her demeanor, her words, and the tone and volume of her voice were the opening act to what Jin's eyes and ears were about to feast on. At least to Jin, Ami was a pristine beauty of unfathomable innocence. She was a kind-hearted girl with an earnest mindset that made such talents possible. For Jin and the people in his world, their free time was spent getting better at what they did. Trained killers. Top-shelf prostitutes. That was not meant to discount their craft either, but Jin always would have those moments where he wanted to escape. And so as the music played. As Ami strummed her instrument. Jin escaped. Each strum caused sensual vibrations which echoed a harmonious yet mysterious tune into the airwaves. It was a song that only Jin would hear, as there was nobody within hearing distance. Most of the noise from this room was muffled by the hustle and bustle of the walls outside and the crowd inside. For once in this big city of Niwa, Jin felt isolated. His eyes gave off a glossy look as he began to stare off at Ami. No longer distracted by her beauty, Jin was enwrapped by the sound. Each note caressed his ears better than any escort or callgirl could ever hope to do. From start to finish, Jin remained silent, focused. His tea, which was suspended in his hand only inches from his face, never moved. It eventually cooled off between Jin's rough fingers, at least until Ami's song ended and Jin took a sip. A delighted smile was drawn across the man's face. It was a much brighter smile than any he had given before. "To be honest, I was hoping you would play something more Chinese than Japanese." The instrument was too similar to the Guqin, but he had perhaps set himself for failure expecting so much from a Japanese woman. "But, that was beautiful." He placed the cup down at his side and clapped merrily. "Magnificent." Like a child, Jin sat there, entertained and mesmerized by the beauty, hoping to hear yet another melody to soothe his soul and make him forget the life he was living in. |

Nami finished the piece and bowed. She was very pleased with the performance, especially considering it had been a while since she had last played. "To be honest, I was hoping you would play something more Chinese than Japanese." Her head shot up to look at him, a dumbfounded expression on it. Luckily Tsui-san didn't seem disappointed. In fact he went on to say that it was beautiful, magnificent. Still year of breeding and proper trainging kicked in and she felt bad for letting him down. So she did the only thing she knew to do, she bowed her head down and apologized. "Ah I'm sorry, I only know Japanese music... Papa was very... traditional..." She said. Soujiro had always insisted his daughter be the perfect image of a Japanese beauty, the idea of her learning anything Chinese other than the language had been unfathomable to the Yakuza boss. She raised her head and offered him a smile. Despite his wishes for something more Chinese she was grateful for the chance to play for someone, she played almost every night for her father and the gang, it had been something Soujiro had taken great pride in. Playing for a man like Tsui-san well it was nostalgic of those oh so very missed days back in the Somoto-gumi. "I would offer to attempt to play something more to your tastes but unfortunately I haven't any experience with it, but thank you for letting me play for you, it's been quite a while since I was able to play for someone like this, it's nice...wha...?" as she had been speaking a tear had formed and rolled down her cheek, it was followed by one, then another. She quickly wiped them away and laughed nervously. "What on earth...? I'm so sorry... I don't know what's come over me." The nostalgia had gotten the better of her and the emotions of the past decade had overwhelmed her for a moment, she wouldn't sob or wail but these few silent tears were unstoppable. So much had happened, and while she hated the little symbols of weakness she had to admit it felt nice to let it out for once. |

Almost immediately, the tears wept by Ami had caught Jin's attention. His elated smile had dissipated almost immediately as the Triad chairman rose from his chair and made his way toward the girl. Was she... was she crying? It was confusing to Jin, but he could not help but proceed anyways. He was not typically a caring person, but perhaps the man had been so accustomed to acting the way that others expected of him that eventually had glued the mask onto his true face, forgetting the kind of man that he truly was. "Ami. Ami. Shh shh..." Almost instinctively to Jin now, the man rushed and placed his large hand at the back of Ami's neck, pulling her gently closer to his shoulder. It was probably an unnecessary gesture, but Jin found that he had a weak spot for pretty girls. Just like another girl that he had once had interest in, Ami had something that Jin had realized was a trend. What was it with girls and music? "It's okay. It's okay." He continued consoling her, slowly easing off of his sudden burst of empathy and returning back to a state of neutrality. They were strangers, after all. "What's wrong?" |
