Niwa's Recent News
  • 19 April 2015 -- Niwa is under new management!

Niwa is now under new management as we strive to stand up the the standards of fun and entertaining roleplaying we have so far provided here at Niwa. Today makes the start of a campaign to bring in new members as Head Admin Akaiken and Support Admin Sparky work together to improve and uphold the current face of Niwa and keep us all moving forward!

They said this was a city for our kind, they said it was a safe haven from the rest of the world. This was suppose to be the city where we where safe from regular humans. But, in a city where Meta-Humans run rampant, is there such thing as safety? When taking what you want is as simple as waving your hand, or closing your eyes, how can there be law? In this city, the truth is there is only one source of law, and that are the different criminal organizations that have formed all around us. The only order is that of the darkest part of humanity, of criminal organizations where the strong thrive while the weak gasp for air. This is Niwa Nights.. This is our home.

Can you survive it?

Nami smiled as the small ding from her kitchen timer sounded. The apartment filled with the smell of fresh baked cookies, kinda off if you actually looked around it. In her living room there were guns on the table taken apart for cleaning, a sword laid on the floor also freshly cleaned, and a punching bag hung from the ceiling beat to hell and back. In the kitchen empty sake bottles cluttered the sink and across the table laid out all her makeup supplies and a mirror.

She slipped on her oven mitts and pulled the batch out. After letting them cool a bit she took a small portion of each and wrapped them up nicely. It had been a long time since she had had actual neighbors. Not since the fire really. Her late teenage years had been spent running from the Kayashin-gumi and then after joining Wo Shing she’d been training under Eiji-Sensei and lived within the Wo Shing headquarters in the area. Not exactly the place to go greet your neighbors. Probably wasn’t exactly the best idea to do this now either but father always made it a point to be friendly to the neighbors and it would make him sad if she didn’t do the same.

Once the four packages of cookies were wrapped up she placed them in a bag and headed out her door walking a few feet to the right to stand before her neighbors. She set her usually sweet and innocent smile on her face and knocked three times. She had heard this neighbor was not allowed an oven after a kitchen accident, probably some old lady that could barely care for herself if she managed that. The cookies would probably be a welcome surprise… assuming the old lady had the teeth to eat them.

"It's not- you can't have it both ways! Do you think that S-... Do you think that Soujiro-sama intended to die?! Of course not and I killed him anyways! Please just leave!!!"

What the hell was she talking about? Akaiken had been sitting next to Nami when the fire started, it was an attack from a rival gang, there was no way Akaiken could have been remotely at fault. What the hell had she planted in her head? had she been blaming herself all these years?

"I have to!! I can't- I won't do it! I won't kill you again!!"

enough of this cracked head bullshit.

Nami's fist flew at the door making, as her fist hit the wood she released the built up chi in her fist propelling it forward and magnifying the force of the hit. She had intended to bust a hole through the door... but instead in ended in 20-something pieces across Akaiken's floor.

Namida stood above her friend tears rolling down her cheeks.

"Don't be fucking stupid, I'm not that easy to fucking kill."

For a moment she felt the door move behind her again, but then the tension put into the door caused it to... burst!? The red-head stared in wide-eyed shock as more than a dozen pieces of what was once her apartment door literally exploded into her livingroom. A few struck her enough to hurt but not enough to make her express it beyond what was already going on. She looked up to see Namida, crying with her bloodied fist out having obviously just punched the door to shit.

"Don't be fucking stupid, I'm not that easy to fucking kill."

Akaiken scrambled away and to her feet gritting her teeth trying to choke back her own tears. Shameful. "You... You don't get it do you? It's not... I'm cursed!!"

She took a few stumbling steps backwards, there was so much to explain... too much perhaps, but if she could only make her understand! " Just fucking think about it!! The... the gods have violently torn everyone I get close to away from me don't you see? The fire, Shunsuke-san, even before then my own parents... Just in these past few weeks people who approached with nonhostile intentions almost died!" Akaiken shouted, her hands balling into fists at her sides.

This was torture. Her trained purpose in life dangling right in front of her and yet she would never be able to fulfill that purpose Soujiro-sama had given her so many years ago. She knew, knew, that if she stayed around Namida for any reason she would die. A Curse was not something she knew how to fight...

And then out of the corner of her eye she saw it shimmer. Her salvation.

Perhaps if she gave them her life, they would spare Namida's. At the very least, if she was dead, she couldn't cause anyone's death right? It was perfect.

Akaiken swallowed and stood straight moving to her end table and grabbing the 9mm Wo Shing had given her, clicking off the safety and raising it to her head.

"Namida-sama, please, live a long and full life."

Namida followed the scrambling, stumbling Akaiken into her apartment. She was so upset, but why? This should be a happy time. They were reunited, they weren’t alone afterall.

"You... You don't get it do you? It's not... I'm cursed!!"

First a look of realization cam over nami’s face, It melted into a look of sadness, understanding, and pity. So that was it. “oh Akaiken…” she whispered softly reaching out to her. So this, this is how Akaiken had been blaming herself all these years. She had ranted that Shunsuke’s death was her fault when it had happened weeks before the fire. Otou-san had had so much trouble calming her down after that incident.

"Just fucking think about it!! The... the gods have violently torn everyone I get close to away from me don't you see? The fire, Shunsuke-san, even before then my own parents... Just in these past few weeks people who approached with nonhostile intentions almost died!"

Nami shook her head.

“No Aki… none of that was you’re fault.” She sad softly the tears running freely down her face as she continued towards Akaiken arms outstretched. If only she could calm her down. Make her understand. She couldn’t leave Akaiken alone now there was no way, she had so much worse than Nami had, she needed someone who understood her, someone to ground her back into reality. She had always had those episodes… seeing things since they were children. It was a big reason much of the family was against her being Nami’s personal guard but Otou-san had seen something in Akaiken, something that Nami still saw.

“Akaiken… please…” she pleaded but was met with the most terrifying thing she had seen since the fire all those years ago. Akaiken pointed a gun to her head.

Nami didn’t even hear what Akaiken said she just moved. She would grab Akaiken’s wrist with one hand pulling her arm down and twisting at the same time to make her lose her grip on the gun, the other hand would grab Akaiken by the hair to wrench her head away from the line of fire and help control her upper body. As she did that she would use her left leg to sweep Akaiken’s feet out from under her, using her grip on her hair to keep her from hitting her head. When it was done Nami would end up on Akaiken, straddling her ribcage to prevent her from bucking Nami off.

Now on the floor away from the gun Nami reared her hand back and slapped Akaiken across the cheek.
“You idiot.” She said, her voice filled with anger and pain. “who said you could die? Huh? Did you not pledge your life to the Somoto family? Did you not swear to my father that you would protect me as long as you breathed? “ tears fell from Nami’s eyes onto Akaiken like the rain that had poured on the day of Shunsuke’s death.

“Until now, you knew not I lived so I’ll forgive that but today… trying to do…that! As head of the Somoto-gumi I forbid you to take your own life. Your punishment will be to stay with me despite the curse you think you have.” She released her hold on Akaiken’s hair began to try and wipe the tears from her eyes, they were coming down so fast though it was pretty much useless. Still she spoke through her sobbing. “You hear me Akaiken Hogo you don’t get to be alone anymore cause I won’t let you be.” She wailed, now full blown sobbing.

It sounded so stupid to Nami, claiming to be the head of a yakuza that no longer existed but Akaiken was loyal to the bitter end and Soujiro Somoto or not her oath to Nami's father would still mean something even today, Namida's birthright though burned away with their home and their family would still mean something to her. It had to, Namida couldn't bear the thought of losing her again.

[[for the record to anyone else who might read this besides Akiai-kun, I know that was an auto-hit but she gave me permission to stop her from offing herself in anyway possible. =3= ]]

“No Aki… none of that was you’re fault. Akaiken… please…”

Its for your own good.

Akaiken swallowed lightly, closed her eyes and moved her finger to the trigger. But before she could pull back with those 5lbs or so of pressure she was grabbed. "No- Fuck!" She yelled out as she lost grip on the gun, her arm being twisted as she was pulled back by her hair. She didn't even have time to react before next thing she knew she was hitting the ground hard. Damn it all, Namida always was better with grappling. Fuck. Despite knowing the futility of it the red-head still thrashed about, her eyes wildly searching for that silver salvation that dangled before her. So fucking close, damn it all!

Slap!

A sudden stinging pain seared through Akaiken's face and for a moment it felt like everything stopped until she felt a few warm drops hit her face. Namida was crying...

That's right, surely it hurt her as well. Not a single one of the kobun remained and to find one only for them to try and kill themselves in front of her, no matter the reason, of course that was upsetting! But it was still...

“You idiot. who said you could die? Huh? Did you not pledge your life to the Somoto family? Did you not swear to my father that you would protect me as long as you breathed?"

Akaiken grit her teeth in a pained expression. That was the whole fucking point wasn't it?! As long as she breathed the other was in danger!! If she could just-

“Until now, you knew not I lived so I’ll forgive that but today… trying to do… that! As head of the Somoto-gumi I forbid you to take your own life. Your punishment will be to stay with me despite the curse you think you have.”

And that was the moment Akaiken stopped struggling. Of course, why didn't she see it sooner? This was Namida-motherfucking-Somoto, there's no way even such a threat to her life would scare her off. Shame welled up along with more tears, it was only cowardice wasn't it? Here she had the option to once again take back her purpose and she was going to throw it all away out of fear.

She could still smell the smoke, taste the burning remains in the air... She could still feel that pain in her center when they dragged her away. To call the following weeks a nightmare would be a severe understatement and truthfully she really couldn't stomach the thought of going through that again. If she had to go through such a thing... surely she wouldn't survive.

“You hear me Akaiken Hogo you don’t get to be alone anymore cause I won’t let you be.”

Get? Let? As though she actually wanted this? The sudden realization struck her deep.

Fear and selfishness.

That's all this was, she was scared to go through that again… she didn’t know if she could. But to so blatantly disregard Namida-sama’s own feelings on the matter… Soujiro-sama would have had her head for making her cry like this... How could she have allowed herself to become so... twisted? It was almost painfully obvious now, there was only one solution left that allowed her to remain with her honor intact. She would have to defy the gods. Surely she could do it, succeed where she had previously failed, she was stronger now right? Right. She wouldn't allow such selfishness to impede her purpose again.

"Namida-sama I'm sorry..." The short woman wiped her own eyes with her arm looking up at the other woman with a new-found determination in her serious expression. "I won't fail you again."

Relief flooded over Nami and fell onto the other girl, wrapping her arms around Akaiken's neck and just cried. All the emotions of the past decade coming out at once, the frustration, the pain, and now the relief and absolute joy that there was at least one other left. Losing papa, Shunsuke and all the other boys was hard enough, she was glad she hadn't lost Akai-kun too.

There would be so much for them to catch up on, so much to fill her in on. So much for Akaiken to tell Nami, had she been having it as rough as Nami had? had she been living on the streets?

After a while Nami pulled back. "we have a lot to talk about." she said with a smile, sniffeling and wiping her eyes. "And please, don't call me 'sama' just call me Nami ok?"

Akaiken was terribly a creature of habit, that much Nami knew. The 'sama' thing probably wouldn't drop overnight but it felt really weird to hear it. Especially after all these years. After all now she was the underling, the 'yes man' oh... shit... Nami's expression fell as the wheels in her head whirred. Why was Akaiken here in this city anyways? there was little here for anyone other than people in big business...or gang members... was Akaiken in a new yakuza? it would make sense for her to join another after the fall of the Somoto-gumi. But with Nami in Wo Shing... would they be putted against each other?

Nami's expression turned serious. "Akai-kun, please tell me why you're here in Niwa."

Akaiken felt at something of a loss when the other fell onto her just crying and crying. It almost got her going again too but she swallowed it back. She'd had more than her share of crying today and if she was getting back her purpose she really shouldn't be showing anyone such faces.

After a moment she realized she should probably try and do something to better comfort Namida-sama after all the trouble she'd just caused the now-blonde woman but when she raised her hand the other pulled back with a sniffling smile.

"We have a lot to talk about. And please, don't call me 'sama' just call me Nami ok?"

...

To transition from the highest honorific to yobisute... that was asking a lot. In fact just trying to think of Namida-sama in less than -sama terms felt pretty uncomfortable.

'Humor them.'

Shunsuke's voice rang through from her memories. That's right. No matter what Namida said, for Akaiken to even think of them as being on the same level felt like some kind of violation of Soujiro-sama's faith in her. But to tell the taller woman as much would probably result in more trouble than it was worth... The solution of course would be just to not call her by name at all if it could be helped. Simple enough, but for this first time to show her seriousness in the matter she'd have to swallow her discomfort, which to be honest wasn't anything new as far as dealing with Namida was concerned.

"Ah, S-sure... Nami."
She said, obviously a little troubled, mentally adding the -sama suffix for her own comfort.

And then the blonde's expression fell again. Damn it it was a trick wasn't it! And she fucked up! She really shouldn't call her that way at all should she?!

Fucking--

"Akai-kun, please tell me why you're here in Niwa."

And suddenly it clicked. Niwa was not a place for people who'd gone straight and taken the light path. It must obviously betray the fact that she was still part of the underworld, and...

Fuck

Surely Namida-sama had already rebuilt the somoto-gumi and here Akaiken had gone and joined a new syndicate... "T-that is..." Shame washed over her face, "I was invited to join a group and... I did. After things became quiet they transferred me here some months ago. They're trying to expand." She swallowed lightly, "Wo shing has taken care of me well enough monetarily but they don't hold my loyalty like the Somoto clan. They do have a few people specialized in eliminating traitors so that could be a little troublesome but I'm confident that I could take them and get out."

From the look on Akai-kun’s face she had also pieced the pieces together and she too was involved in the shit storm that was the gangs of Niwa. Nami let out a frustrated sigh and hung her head as Akaiken spoke. The group she worked for must be a tough one if they had people specializing in offing traitors. The red head had offered to fight her way out but that would mean her risking her neck by a lot. Maybe if Nami talked to Tatsou…. Wait… Nami looked back up suddenly serious again.

“Wo shing…. Did you say Wo Shing?” she asked looking so deathly serious it seemed as if life or death was held in the balance of whatever words came out of Akaiken’s mouth next.

“You work for the Wo Shing?” She asked again getting all up in Akaiken’s face. This was a moment of truth!

Even though Namida had sighed in such a way, Akaiken was determined that she could sufficiently vanish from the Wo Shing's radar. It wouldn't be easy, and she would probably have to change her appearance, probably even her name. But she had no doubt she could do it if it meant regaining her purpose and position with a renewed Somoto-gumi.

“Wo shing…. Did you say Wo Shing?”

The red-head was a little taken aback. It didn't surprise her so much that Namdia had heard of the Wo Shing Society, they seemed to have footholds in almost every major city in japan and beyond. But what did surprise her was the seriousness in Namida's expression.

“You work for the Wo Shing?”

"Y-yes. I work for the Niwa chapter of the Wo Shing Society. A man called Eiji is the main-head, but the local boss is a man named Kabuto Tatsuo." She spoke reciting clearly what little she knew of the society.

To be honest it was a little shameful but she really hadn't intended on being alive so long for it to matter. All these years she'd just been skating by not looking too closely at anything at all... Okay so it was really shameful...

Fate wouldn't be so kind would it? to think that not only would they be reunited but be brothers...er sisters in arm as well? Akaiken looked surprised by her knowledge of the group but without missing a beat she spilled to Nami all she knew.... which wasn't much... less than Nami knew already. but that didn't matter.

At Akaiken's ashamed expression Namida shook her head and shushed Akaiken. "no Akai-kun don't be upset, this is good, excellent really." Nami looked around before grabbing Akaiken by the hand. "but let's go talk at my place, since you don;t have...ya know a door." she said getting up and dragging the red head with her.

"Sorry bout that by the way. I kinda lost control there."

She would guide Akaiken to her place next door. Once the door was firmly closed and locked Nami would turn to Akaiken and with a knowledgeable smile announce quietly "It's perfect because you see, I'm also a member of the Wo Shing Society."

Akaiken blinked and furrowed her eyebrows in confusion when she was shushed. Excellent? What was excellent? This was a horrible situation! Guh if Soujiro-sama were alive she would surely have to offer him her life for this sort of betrayal! Of course Namida-sama had just forbidden her from that kind of thing so really...

Ah! Yubitsume! Of course!

Surely a fitting punishment for this greatest of offenses.

But before she could open her mouth to recommend it Namida grabbed her and dragged her to the others apartment apologizing for destroying her door. Well, that was just what happens to things that get in the way of a Somoto wasn't it?She followed along silently to the neighboring apartment before turning to Namida with an obvious concerned confusion on her face.

"It's perfect because you see, I'm also a member of the Wo Shing Society."

A very serious air washed over her expression as a thousand questions streamed through her head one leading to the next. Just what was Namida doing with the Wo Shing? Why wasn't she with the Kayashin group? Did something happen? Of course something happened- The redhead's eyes flashed to Namida's hands then back, taking note of the lack of a wedding band. At their age if things had gone to plan surely Namida-sama and her betrothed would have been married by now.

Which means that he was no longer her betrothed and at the very least unfriendly enough to force her out to the point that she'd have to take work with another group...

And then there was her appearance. It wasn't just a matter of someone changing as they grow up, Namida-sama loved her black hair and took a lot of pride in her appearance consistently shunning the very clothes she was in now. Why the change?

The short woman frowned as worse and worse scenarios came to mind. It was entirely possible for Wo Shing to have some kind of debt hanging over the Kayashins which they sent Nami as payment... She wouldn't put it past those bastards at all. And dressed like that... Just what was she doing?

Wo shing... she really didn't trust them at all either.

"Namida-sama... just what... what kind of work are you doing for Wo Shing?"
